    Bought the 790 adventure a week ago and that bike is a real gem. It is so well balanced, great ergonomics, large fuel capacity, really good suspension. Handling is really good.

    I've got a 2020 790 Duke that I bought with 5000miles on it. Got 18300 on it now, great bike for blasting around A and B roads. Done some longer trips on it and a track day. Just had the valve service done with no issues. One issue with the counter shaft seal early on, but I think that was due to over tightness on the chain. Chain tension looks loose when it is set correctly according to the manual, which has a slightly odd way of measuring and setting the tension imo. So the issue was probably my fault. No issues since then. Just posting this as a counter point to the negative comments.

    Ive got a 20 plate 790 Duke. Ive fallen out of love with it recently due to the forks. I ride mostly off road on an EXCF at the minute and the quality of those forks is amazing. The Duke forks are hugely lacking.

    I have a lot of respect for the 890R and ADV, but I refuse to buy KTM while they're attempting to change the legal definition of ownership with their strange tech pack shenanigans. If you buy a bike, it should be yours. You shouldn't have to pay to activate cruise control, while the module and everything else is already installed on the bike.
    Perhaps it makes sense from a manufacturer's perspective, since you don't have to worry about what bike should have what equipment. But in my opinion it creates a bad precedent and just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Thanks for the video, great videography as always.

    • @MotoGoato
      @MotoGoato 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Get your point ... but there are various ways to look at it. They could just put the price of the bike up by £1K and supply it with everything activated .... but not every customer wants all the bells n whistles and doing it that way everyone has to pay regardless of whether they want the extras or not. At least this way you get to choose which options you want and don't have to pay for the ones you dont want and aren't likely to use. My current bike came with full electronics package unlocked as standard - but I don't use half of the stuff and would have gladly saved £500 on the cost of the bike instead if that had been an option.

    • @Dillithium
      @Dillithium 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@MotoGoato I agree that as a consumer, you want the choice and get a better deal suited to your use. In my opinion however, you've already paid for the option whether you want to or not. A KTM bike comes with the (limited) mechanical parts for cruise control, whether you want it or not. I don't imagine KTM sells their bikes at a loss if people don't opt for the tech/track pack. So one way or another, you've paid for something that you can't use. The buttons are there, but don't work. It just seems anti-consumer to me, because even though you own the bike you can't fully use what it is equipped with unless you throw some extra cash at the dealer.
      It's a way of doing business, I know BMW is trying something similar with their cars. But I don't like paying for something I can't use.

    • @dantton1987
      @dantton1987 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. The whole "but they are offering an option" argument is either uninformed of half-faced. The software and hardware are already payed for. They are just charging you again for something you already bought.
      Dystopian cyberpunk corporate rule this is. Mind blowing to see people defending it.

      @@brianreynolds8425 Apply that same logic to the US, EU, UK or any other western hegemony. You said "it's different". It's not. Your "concerns" are manufactured. You probably should learn something about the "climate" and the history of emissions before you start pointing fingers. China would have to spew CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere for another two hundred years before they matched the level of CO₂ emissions the US produced since say 1860. Even today they only produce about 50% of what we do. Much of that is because we moved all the manufacturing there to exploits the country. The UK is responsible for more than anyone else in history. Yet today is only about 5% globally. I'm also not on a soap box. But I'm also right. The data and history show this to be true.

    • @AntaresSQ01
      @AntaresSQ01 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that's the wrong way to look at it. Electronics have always cost more because of the R&D not the hardware... That £2 hall sensor for the quickshifter is NOT the extra cost, it's the development and programming to make it work... That's already done on all those bikes, KTM have simply decided, it's cheaper for them and easier, to install that £2 sensor on every bike instead of having to have separate lines and builds for some that have it and some that don't, they then simply went, since we already have these on the bike, why not let the customer try them!
      How is that any different to bikes like the GS or Honda Africa twin already having prewired connections for the additional flood lights and GPS bracket? Only thing is on the BMW and Honda you can't "Try" them because the actual component is not there.
      The only things that are "physically" on the bike that you can buy for the KTM is just the QS, all the rest of the electronics like MSR, Hill hold, Track mode require no additional parts as they are all just firmware changes.

    KTM needs to make a SMT R. The duke 790 and 890 is to small for me. I look to big on them. Tried the SMT sadly only for a short ride. Seemed to lack a little bit of x factor for me. At least when i know they have the 890duke r engine ready to go

      @@aethelwulfwarlord1475 Hard no on that... The T7 falls to bits before it makes half the trip the 890 Adv does. Can't comment on the Chinese built 790s but from what I've seen there is no discernible difference in materials or quality, just built elsewhere, to the same KTM quality spec. The 890 platform is absolutely bulletproof, one of the most reliable in that high performance middleweight market, definitely more so than MT09/Tracer 9s, KTM taking the lessons learned back to the 790, which is actually a bored down version of the 890 not the original 790, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be just as rock solid.

      @@AntaresSQ01 I'm a relatively new 890 Duke R owner. I've had the bike since late July and put just over 3000kms on it over the 3ish month period.k At 700kms the front sprocket seal started leaking, I did a once all on all screws after taking delivery of the bike at the recommendation of the dealer (lol). The majority of the screws, including the left front brake caliper and the bolts holding the handlebar were loose, like "do not ride your bike loose". Lost a bolt holding the plastic fairing to the tank due to vibration, did a mild power wash on the bike one evening, had to push it home due to the fact that it refused to start and I had 3 errors on the dash. Overall build quality and general quality of bolts used is abysmal compared to Japanese bikes.
      The bike is a hoot to ride, when it works.

Those issues you claim on the 890 are unheard of, I'll give you the 790 had some gasket issues and a few electronic niggles but that's only for the 1st gen original 790s, the 890 is one of the most reliable bikes in the category atm, it's not even close.

    Seriously crazy how warped a perception the public have of modern KTMs... They're perfectly reliable and much better build QUALITY than most of the japanese bikes nowadays, just to clarify, build quality means good quality paint, switchgear, no sloppy levers etc. The 790 and 890 are some of the most solid feeling motorcycles in the segment, compare that to Yamaha's rust bucket MT07 and MT09 and Honda's sticky levers and it's crazy anyone would ever buy those especially the 790 duke as it stands is the cheapest middleweight on the market atm rivalling the new Hornet...
    As for reliability goes the 890 duke is rated way higher than the MT07, the 890 higher than the Tenere 700 or Transalp, the 1290 higher than the Africa twin.
    It's true KTMs have a relatively high failure rate out of the factory, but 99% of the time it's clueless people moaning about a warning on the dash that doesn't affect anything with the bike and is quickly fixed by the dealers under warranty, the actual bikes themselves regularly last 50k+ with ease and without feeling worn out.
    I know it sounds fanboyish but KTM are no less reliable than japanese bikes, only japanese bike owners have their stigma and can't admit when their bikes corrode and fall to bits. I've yet to see rust on a KTM in my life...
    For the sake of an anecdote, the same goes for BMW and modern Aprilias. I've never had to touch the callipers on my BMW apart from pads, on my Kawasaki I had to rebuild them yearly because corrosion would destroy the seals... All original bearings failed after 30k miles, paint peeling on frame and swingarm, constant FI issues, headlights popping etc etc. By comparison my KTMs and BMWs have been dead reliable with only the occasional phantom error, few minor things here and there but I spent more money fixing a 2011 ER6 in 1 year than I did on a 2015 S1000XR in 3 years...
