Modular Drum Machine Show & Tell

  • Here’s a quick look at a “drum machine” I put together for a studio session, built around System 80 880, Korgasmatron, Mutable Ears, Euclidean Circles, Cyclebox, Basimilus Iteritas Alter, Akemies Taiko and Hologram Microcosm to ambiently pad it out. I hope this shows the fun of digital stuff - always the most bonkers, versatile sound generators, paired with an analog ‘backbone’.
It also reminded me how I love envelope following drums and mashing them up with filters. One of the videos on TH-cam that made me actually want to get into Eurorack was “Prophei” mashing up some 808 through an MS-20 style filter (Doepfer Xtreme filter), so this process has a LOT to answer for...
This system was paired with a “voice” and FX system (being mainly Atlantis, Metropolix and Rainmaker). Anyway hope you enjoy the peek. Sorry for the quick vid, I’m in the middle of a house move, we’ll be firing on (more) cylinders shortly. 🙌

I love how you encourage people to really think and be creative rather than just buy new modules, without being preachy. It’s great. You have really changed my mindset about how I should be approaching this - less broad and more deep exploration.

Just got into Modular Synths after real nailing down the recording process of acoustic drum sounds. I am now just figuring out that tracking modular synths and well-recorded drums is just *_voila_* perfect. I am officially entering the rabbit hole of modular. Wish me luck.

Alex another gem inspiring vidio that’s always innovative as to endless possibilities of Modular
I’m struggling to thought process what route to take in choosing modules for drum duties so it can be altered from tune to tune performance not easy, don’t want to waste funds on unwanted gear, design wise for case
This helps though watching your ever evolving rigs

What you mention about using both ends of the cables is interesting as I had some funny experiences assuming that audio was directional whilst trying to route audio around my system using
switches and realising that using mults sometimes causes audio to go to places you didn't expect it to.
