Every time I watch another person react to this video (and I've been watching many since first finding it, and being introduced to the whole Nuzlocke concept) I notice a new detail in the animation itself. Really speaks to her work. Excellent reaction, going to check out the platinum one as well.
Maril gives out HP EVs so by beating 80 of them she got 160 HP EVs and since magneton has high defense the extra HP EVs helped him live the earthquake. She prepped for it without even knowing (12:04)

leveling up by beating up marill gives you HP EVs (effort values). EVs are basically bonus stats you get when you level up vs certain pokemon, all pokemon really but different stats for different pokemon, so it's thanks to that zipzapzop survived the earthquake. bonus hp evs at work.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but Jaiden accidentally hard trained Magneton to have massive HP EVs. Marril give 2 per, and she got 80 marril for 160 HP evs. That combined with massive physical defense is how Magneton lived the quad effective EQ.
You know what I just noticed? She had Squidward out in the beginning of the Tate and Liza fight. So if she had kept him in, ZipZapZop could've lived longer.
Funny story-in Pokemon Y, my sister got a rando shiny bellsprout in the route before the fairy gym. Uses greninja and uses cut. Gets a crit and... Dead. She was actually dead and I was just laughing ma ass off.
I'm doing a Pearl Nuzlocke, and I watched enough videos beforehand to know how to avoid the, killing your first encounter, trap. And it's just throw pokeballs and pray you catch it before you run out. And if you can't, you just started 10-15 minutes ago, just reset from the beginning until you get luckier.
This video was one of the things that inspired me to do my first Nuzlocke, in LeafGreen! I ended it with a team of all stars, Buddy the Venusaur, Griffon the Pidgeot (RIP), Paul the Poliwrath, Zynx the Jynx, Toxica the Nidoqueen and FatCat the Snorlax, and with only five deaths (Minnie the Rattata, Sandy the Sandslash, Spike the Nidoking, Neptune the Gyarados and Griffon)!

I did calcs on the magnemite one shotting mawhile, and even with plus special attack nature, 31 IV on magnemite and negative special defense nature and 0 IV on mawhile, it's not possible. Either charge or metal sound must have been used first.
We all get the crit at the wrong time ...there are also times where the pokemon gods grant us the crit when it counts. Like when I nuzlocked sacred gold, and my feraligater crit lance's last dragonite with a quick claw ice fang. He'd died if the crit didnt hit.
