I was 14 in 2001 and grew up with the 1st generation MDX when my parents had them. Now, in 2024 I bought a new MDX for my family and I. This car will always be in my family. Hands down most reliable and best SUV I've ever had, and I've had everything from Range Rovers to the Porsche Cayenne.
We are the same age. My parents got one of the first MDX ever produced in December 2000. I loved that thing. Took it on many road trips with the middle seats folded so the boys could sit in the last row with legroom to spare, playing halo 2 on a 15" tube TV! Those were the days.
@@barryfastcars25 Simpler times! Miss those days! I remember going to my friends house back in the day to have Halo parties, everyone together in person playin Halo. Wish I could go back.
My GF is impressed with the “look” of the newest gen MDX. I come here to find out Honda has both VCM (variable cylinder management) and DI (Direct Fuel Injection). Those are technologies which demand attention to maintenance and repair. On top of turbo technology. And the Type S has air suspension? Those are likely to fail and be expensive. I’d delete those when it came time or stay with a basic model. This sounds more like a BMW than a Honda… yikes. Mind you I added a S-VCM controller and Idlestopper on her ‘19 MDX to disable the problematic VCM and make the Idle stop optional. Change oil to Quaker State Full Synthetic, Valvoline, Mobil1, Pennzoil 5W-30 off of RAT540 engineering blog’s list for the best wear protection. And do it at 5,000mi or sooner

@@paulaiello9105 probably more than good. That turbo V6 has been out a few years. Just change that oil at 5,000 or less (ideally). I’d still do a S-VCM delete if it’s available for that gen. Just a pigtail to the coolant temp sensor. The Idestopper is a pigtail under the shifter buttons
Ive has new cars for the last 20 years trading them in every 2-3 years no no leases, just sold my last car and was in the market for another, boy with the prices today the value is just not there dont matter how many screens are on it, 70k for this??? Ridiculous man add the apr at all time high hard pass. I think so manufactures will get a reality check

5.4 seconds to 60 and a 13.9 second quarter mile is MORE than enough power for something this large. These are a hit in my area. Some of the people commenting and hating can’t even afford this car so stop being weirdos.

I still believe hybridization would help Acura's overall sales, but I have seen a lot of MDXs over the years.
MDX is 70k. That customer does not care about fuel savings. Acura already tried it and failed.
Ironically, the previous generation MDX Sport Hybrid sold poorly. Acura was a bit too early when its market wasn't ready for hybrids.
Agree 100%. Even mild hybridization would be appreciated. I have a regular MDX. Hard to get even 300 miles on a fill up as is.

Just got this one. It's fun to drive and does not make me feel like driving a boaty 3 row SUV. Gas mileage is not good, but I don't live in California, so who cares
"The benchmark in its price point"? What sort of baloney is that? Acura cars aren't any kind of benchmark in any way whatsoever.
People complain about Honda V6s still using a timing belt… but what they don’t have are catastrophic timing chain problems that have plagued other makes! I still think they are missing a niche without a RDX v6 turbo type S and/or not having a more off road “TRD” type of lifted, bigger tired version. Not necessarily going off road, rather, I’m taking my family to the mountains for a ski or camping trip where average cars better not go.
A well built engine will not have catastrophic timing chain issues of which there are many so that argument is moot...
Someone Just needs to invent a Type R version of the Honda Pilot. Like they put the Type S version of this MDX. After all it’s a 3 row crossover
The 2025 has a touch screen, pass on the 2024 big time. The infotainment is horrible in all but the new 2025.
Pretty soon, driving a sedan will be history.
*Acura stopped innovating. No hybrid. No RWD based sports car/sedan. Type Slow, abysmal MPG MDX, no thanks.*

It's a nice SUV, but not at $76k when you could have a Honda Pilot for under $50k.
For an automobile at this overpriced point....I find it way too Honda to justify the 70K price tag. I stuck with BMW for that unique and special feel...
That's why I don't prefer Acura also. Feels just like a Honda. Because that's exactly what it is.

@@truonghthe The 2024 Advance is $75,150 including delivery, not $80K. Advance also gives you air suspension, ELS Signature Stereo, heated steering wheel and 16-way comfort seats as well as a few other goodies.

@@truonghthe I did check it out and see (and bought a Type S Advance). There are no options (other than a couple of paint color options for $600) to have on the Advance package, so that is the MSRP all-in. A comparably equipped RX500h F is right at $71K, and it's a two row only and no air suspension.
@@truonghtheit has more tech than that Lexus, and one is a three row. I bought my mdx for 75,000. You cannot get a type S for 80k.
nice that they kept the V6. but why they needed to re-invent the gear shifter. I'll take an ordinary lever, please.

To acquire this top of the line ACURA suv your spending as much as a a BMW X5 that doesn’t perform as well as a BMW. My 2020 x5 outperforms this latest mdx and I get 24 plus to the gallon in combined driving and over 32 on the highway, while your at it the latest x5 really outperforms this Acura product. There is a reason that BMW is the number one valued and reliable Consumer Reports overall brand, because they are the best driving, reliable luxury/ overall brand in the world. Since the MDX comes up short why not just get the X5 since this version costs as much.
In a recent drag race, the mdx beat it. Also, does your x5 offer massaging seats, air suspension, every single driving assist feature, 25 speak sound system, for 75k? No.
The X5 will start having problems well before 100,000 miles and they are costly to repair.

I have the new Type S mdx and have owned the 1st and 2nd Gens as well. I was able to get 230k miles on my older MDXs with no mechanical issues.
I’m not sure how the BMW X5s do past 200k?
I owned a second gen MDX with the advance package after 100k the repairs where very expensive and the one thing that always happened on it was uneven wear on my tires and the dealer could never solve it. Buying 4 new tires every year gets old. Every X5 has an adaptive suspension, I also got my X5 for $69k the only missing was a massage seat. Since reliability was mentioned my 2006 RL with advance packed was a total lemon. The car literally would turn off when breaking. The dealer and Acura National could never solve it, you literally could not break without the engine and car turning off. So if I’m spending 70+ k on a vehicle I’m not buying a fancy Honda that depreciates like hell and the dealer can’t fix. I also own a 2019 330 and both of my BMWs have never had a problem. Whereas my experience with Acura was less stellar.

With its weight, it needs at least 50 more HP. Also, who the hell makes a V6 with a timing belt for a mainstream car these days? Rear looks pretty good, front end is ugly.

@@moejr1974 agree. We have the regular MDX. Sometimes I would want a little more torque off the line. The type S would fix that nicely. And if it wasn’t nearly 2x the price (in monthly lease payment terms) I’d have considered it. We got the MDX because it was one of the last vehicles to have the Honda V6. We would have taken an RDX otherwise. The 2.0T is plenty powerful, but it lacks the refinement of the V6.

@@DaveP-uv1ml “one of the best” doesn’t mean anything. Timing chains made in the last 25 years are just as quiet as belts. The biggest noise difference is in induction, valve train, and injectors.
@@beb1527 RDX also has a lot of slack in the drive train. Same with TLX. Everything has delay.

Motorweek lives in a pretend world where America's Tesla brand does not exist. For this reason they never mention, compare with or review Tesla cars. Tesla's Model Y is the world's best-selling vehicle of any type in 2023+2024. (Not reviewed by Motorweek since 2020) The low-selling Japanese car they're advertising in this video is crushed by the Tesla in sales and in specs. 0-60 is 5.6sec in the Acura and 3.5sec in the Tesla. $66 to drive the Acura about 350-360 miles... vs. $20 or less to drive the Tesla 300 miles. 71cu.ft. storage in the Acura... 76cu.ft. in the Tesla. $69,000 for the Acura... $52,000 for the Tesla. Software so bad that even Motorweek can't lie about it in the Acura... vs. World's best automotive software in the Tesla.
On the road during vacation ai noticed the similarities between our CRV and its Acura counterpart. Is the MDX related to the Pilot?
Yes?? 2025 is out.. why are they putting 2024... i think acura can NOT SALE this gas guzzler, overpriced and not anything special mdx.. they should have put a hybrid version for 2025. That gets 25mg to 28mg on highway and drop the price by $20,000. I put my money on a Toyota rav4 hybrid anyday.!!! Way cheaper! Better in every way! 😊
Awesome suv and often reviewers misinterpreted and misinform because is not a luxury brand like Mercedes or BMW just like those are not like Bentley and Rolls Royce. Acura is premium brand to Honda meaning it offers more than a branded Honda. Mr Honda philosophy was being good at many things for less price with new innovations.
Their website literally labels itself as performance luxury and talks about their first luxury offerings the Legend and Integra.

The MDX is by far the better value over the X5 xD 40i when you factor that it's just as fast, is lighter, has excellent driving dynamics, looks better (subjective), is much better equipped, and has three rows. of seats.
I like both BMW and Acura but BMW has lost it's way. The sedans are all hideous and overweight now that the 5 series has been redesigned (still hoping to get my hands on a F90 M5 before it inevitably goes up in value), and the SUVs are heading that direction as well (see:xM, X7). Then there's the fact they're selling overpriced garbage like the 2 series GC...
Don't get me wrong X5 is still a decent vehicle (for now), but it's not as competitive with Acura like other vehicles such as the m340i which still owns that entire class (again, for now).
The MDX is Acura's bread and butter (and the reason it's not Infiniti). It has been the best selling 3-your luxury SUV in America basically since it went on sale decades ago and is a huge cash cow (along with the RDX) and it only keeps getting better, unlike most BMWs unfortunately.
Nothing screams coping at its finest like a wall of text 😂. Let's get this straight, no BMW owner is dealing with regrets because they didn't buy an Acura. Its current Acura owners on this constant endless cycle of coping and excuses about their vehicle because let's face it, they believe all the marketing bs and now see all the short comings. honda / acura owner have always been valued buyers. Can't ask nearly 80k for an MDX-S a performance trim that gets walked by a base X5. The last few years the sales figures have been horrible but nothing like the last two months which have been abysmal. Did you see June's sales? Their entire line up lost. Including the GM ZDX 😂. Facts don't lie but coping owners do.

Lol ok now I cant even take your comment seriously but I'll bite. If you honestly think the MDX/RDX have been selling horrible, you're disconnected from reality and I'll leave it at that.
I agree that the the Acura sedans have never sold exceptionally well (going back decades), but were never expected too.
That said the TLX has been surprisingly very competitive with the A4 and has outsold the mid-tier brands Infiniti, Genesis, Cadillac, Lincoln, Alfa, Jaguar, etc.
And the Integra has sold insanely well relative to its market niche, outselling all three German brands by huge margins.
And lol The ZDX is a stopgap GM joke of a vehicle that will be replaced when Honda/Acura finishes development of their own EV platform. I'm surprised they've sold more than 10 this year.

@@iwhineTL The 2024 MDX Type S Advance is $75,150 all-in, not "nearly $80K" - big difference. There are no additional options as that the Advance package has all the features included.
@stevenfarley4738 if you choose not to add a single accessory as soon as you add a few accessories that gap starts to close quickly. Last time I checked all in doesn't include state sales taxes and other misc fees. So my 80K+ isn't BS.. if you wish to do tax evasion, then be my guest. Last time I checked, one thing in this life to be a guarantee and that's paying taxes. By the way its $75,550 on acuras website.. next?

Disastrous brand without any substance. Essentially it is an overpriced Honda. It is essentially a Honda Odyssey with weak all wheel drive.
Acura's SH-AWD beat Audi's Quattro, BMW's xDrive and Mercedes-AMG 4matic. Case in point, the Acura TLX Type S beat the Audi S4 and C43 AMG 4matc, and tied the M440i xDrive's lap times at MotorTrend's Figure-8.

@@truonghthe Yes, shopped (and drove) the TX 550h+ (as well as the X5 & Q7) when looking last year. Not sure what your other comment is about.
@@MikeForsythe the TX500h also uses two electric motors (with an inline four) to achieve their HP output of 366. Not sure what the V8 comment has to do with this discussion.
The 3.0 turbo V6 engine in type s variant has a peculiar problem torque converter is not transferring power properly to the transfer case or differential
