Most people manage to find friends at school. At one high school that I transferred to, I didn’t know anyone, so I walked home for lunch. I happened to be walking through the cafeteria one day, and I saw a girl from one of my classes eating alone. (Her family moved all over the world). She looked miserable. I asked her if I could join her for lunch. She said “yes.” She then met a group of girls and asked me to join her group. I attended summer school at a high school where I didn’t know anybody. We didn’t have meals, but there was about 15 minutes of time between classes. I took two classes. During the time between classes, I got a library card, and checked out fiction to read at home. During the break between the first and second hour of my second class, a girl walked up to me and said I looked lonely. She asked me if I wanted to be friends with her and her friend. I said “yes.” I was doing okay/surviving without friends. I didn’t need rescue from a welcoming committee.
Fun Fact: In you give them your first time, they would just keep doing it all over again, so just DONT give it to them, who cares if they die of hunger lmao
I remember during lunch, I would go to a side hallway near one of the staircases and eat by myself, because talking with people throughout the day can be emotionally draining for me. So it’s good for me to be by myself to regain that energy back. Not to say I don’t enjoy my friends. I just prefer being alone.
I'm an ambivert but more leaning in the introvert side. I was the class president and i perform (singing or dancing) in school programs. I also play basketball a lot with my classmates and friends. I have a lot of friends back when i was in school, but most of the time I don't go eat lunch with them. Usually i prefer to eat alone. I eat where there are not many people around. I don't feel left out or i don't feel lonely at all. It's just my personality. So the idea of a stranger talking to me suddenly and eating lunch with me so that i will not feel lonely, irritates me. If you eat lunch with me, it must be because you genuinely want to be friends with me. But when you approach me thinking that i'm lonely and desperately need people to be with to be happy, even though you don't know me personally, then you better not think of talking to me.

High school was the worst for me besides senior year and always will be. I was restlessly bullied and ignored and it wasn't until I moved schools that things changed. I was unhappy, depressed, and obsessed with my phone. I had no friends and no one liked me. Now I'm 19 years old and have a job, a lot of people I know from 12th grade still chat with me online, or say hi to me while at work. My coworkers are so understanding and do there best to help me out. For me, high school was never easy, and I wished it was.
I saw both sides of the spectrum I was really unpopular and picked on in jr high, but was popular and a “cool kid” in h.s and they’re completely different experiences, the unpopular thing can really get to you
Your probably to young to understand. But compared to the challenges you will face later in life, high school is super easy. You’ll wish you could go back. Don’t be afraid, just be ready.
I love this. Even for introverts who want to be alone, social interaction is a skill they need to learn. The person can learn about your anxiety and that you prefer to be alone, and they can let you be alone. But for most kids, they're not alone by choice and this club can change their lives for the better.
Well the thing is a lot of introverts know how to interact socially, they just prefer not to. So while it is nice that these people are giving others company, not everyone wants company even if you feel they need it However, this is great for people who are socially awkward because those are the people who need practice but don't always get the chance to get it

Yes I am an introvert and I also have social anxiety and anxiety so I would never choose to sit alone bc when I sit alone I feel like people are judging me and then I have a panic attack bc I am very uncomfortable and scared. So.this would really help me
i know the feeling. I was that girl in school who always sat by herself. I had friends, but they weren't really real friends if you asked me. I was the one who just stayed to myself and out of drama, never ran with the crowds or was a troublemaker. I kept to myself a lot and was very observant. But sometimes it does get a little lonely to have no one to talk to.

Being around people 24/7 is so stressful and you barely can have anytime to think on your own. As someone who lives in a loud house with 7 other siblings, I feel the need for alone time so I get alone time at school

During lunch, i always did my homework alone so i can get that done before hanging out with friends. It's comforting to see what these kids are doing. We all dine together. There should be more clubs of that.
And my second high school I walked into lunch alone. All I heard was “bruh” a random cool guy just was all happy to see me and walked me around introducing me to everyone like I was his life long friend. The next year I did the same thing to newer students. It’s really a big help.

Awesome job!!!! I'm 46 years old and I can still remember that horrible feeling that comes with lunch and not knowing who you will sit with - at that age it is a big thing for kids! Thank goodness these kids are working to make it better for their classmates ❤️

as someone who sits alone, is basically alone in highschool everyday, every hour...I found nothing wrong with this statement if it applies to school only. because I personally believe nobody cares about me at my school. I've only experienced this once in 6th grade and I felt happy.

omg i thought that girls always were the ones to have friends easily because they would normally talk to you and say hey. In my school i will sit outside where there are kids together but i be alone or go to libuary in winter/raining days to escape the crowded cafeteria. Middle school was worst and in elementary i was bullied the most. Alot of things happen to me as if god hated me. I actually never had best friends and the only thing i went out the most when i was younger are my cousins but rarely. Now that im 18 its kinda sad that i see kids who have friends at my neighborhood hang out and me not even having one. I used to go out when my brother was there and that was actually fun because i will go out and he didn't like it because it was his friends. when he left i had noone and was ignored my my neoighbor who my brother hanged out would call me names like scarface cuz i had a scar. I’m still in high school. People do occasionally talk to me but there a difference. It emotional just angers me. If they touch me I get so mad but I try my best not to give any reaction. I just shut them out and fully expect for them to leave, they do. So that’s that.

idk im socially awkward and seeing someone with the shirt "wedinetogether" and sitting next to me would feel very uncomfortable. their intention may be to actually make me feel good, but my first reaction would be that theyre doing this so they can look good and get some extra credit in their club or whatever. they didnt become my friend in the first, second, or third year of hs for a reason, it would be pretty obvious they think of me as a way to look good, theyre faking. not all of them. maybe. sorry for finding the negative in this.
I’m sure if someone isn’t interested in meeting new people and doesn’t seem receptive they walk away. Like the kid at the end... he was playing his video games so he shook his hand and walked away. And it isn’t a FRIENDSHIP, it’s just so they know SOMEONE. Yes, they may know lots of people and be alone by choice, but it’s still nice to make sure everyone has that option of having a person to talk to or sit with if they ever wanted to or for some reason felt nervous being alone or any other reason and knowing the person is cool with it.
Introvert can mean a lot of different things I suppose. I consider myself one, but feel like someone reaching out would simultaneously off set some self esteem issues if I thought they were genuine. And I'd appreciate it. If they're kind enough to reach out in the first place also probably kind enough to understand if you wanna be left alone. I just see it as a net positive
Exactly, imagine minding your own business thinking about something, being in another world. Having literal shivers and being so happy inside because you’re thinking of your dream job, goal. Then someone comes up to you, sits next to you are try’s to talk. It completely catches you off guard, completely. You went from thinking of glory and doing what you love, to seeing some unknown human trying to get you to speak. I have to force words out sometimes, but mostly i’ll straight up ignore you. Don’t take me out of my own comfort zone and expect to to react so happily and become your friend. Don’t you dare except to to do that… i’m giving you a message, get away from me that’s what ignoring means! Take the hint… Treat me like a ghost I prefer that.
Yeah I don't buy that's since I was an introvert myself and I'm still am, but I discovered that at the end of the day people will always have something to say even you, so if you stablish a simple conversation you and the other person will always have sometimes. To say and can always learn something from each other, so that social anxiety is plain BS.

I’m literally in tears watching this 3 years later.. this kind of stuff seriously warms my heart . Kids can be so cruel and to see this act of kindness really let’s me know there’s good people out there that aren’t concerned about what others may think of them
I don't really understand why it's always looked down on for being quiet, or wanting to sit alone. It's part of my personality and naturally I just enjoy my time spent alone and in my own thoughts.
I recall my own lunchtimes of eating alone and have nothing but admiration for these young people helping the new kids, the outsiders, to fit in. Wish I had that when I was in school.
I spent every year of high school alone during lunch. Eventually I stopped going. I felt so lost and alone. It still affects me to this day.. These kids are such a blessing.
That’s actually what I did when there was no pandemic and when it was all good I wanted to stay home at times cause I didn’t. Have no one to talk to and now I’m graduating from highschool in less then a week and I’m so happy

I remember when I was an exchange student in america I was sitting alone in lunch breaks for the first two weeks. The feeling when a random person walked up to me and talked me into hanging out with her and her friends was like a relief. Finally having someone to talk to and have a laugh toghether really helped me throughout all of the home sickness and lack of social connection.

i sit just by myself.. alone, at lunch like.. 95% of time and not just lunch but almost whole school day, iam mostly ignored and just noone is interested in talking to me, ..yea and thats how it is.. for about 4-5 years now. but anyway.. guess what, iam still positive thinking, most time happy, motivated, and ambitiost guy.. although sometimes.. i almost want to die.. i feel so ugly, i feel like.. everyone on street is looking at me how.. weird and ugly.. being i am, and my confidence level is on complete zero
Andrew ThatsMee - honestly, I think everyone goes through that in high school. Feeling really insecure is a part of growing up. It makes you a kinder person because you learn to empathize with others. Keep up with your studies and hopefully you can get a scholarship to a good college. I was a really nerdy poor kid and college really helped me become the person I wanted to be. I made life long friends and had a great time finding out who I was through my studies and life experiences. I assure you that things do get better. And use the time that you're alone to get into art or writing. I did while in high school and it was very therapeutic and very beneficial for my studies. Also, I don't know if teachers do this at your school, but when I was in high school some cool teachers let their students hang out with them in class during lunch. It's a good way to not feel alone when eating lunch and you get to meet other kids who feel the same way. Good luck to you and don't let it get you down. High school is only four years of your life and you have the rest of it to figure out who you are and who your real friends will be.
I know it's a horrible feeling and you feel as though school will last forever without making friends but you will.. even if it takes years you'll meet some amazing people that will never let you be lonely. I went through this myself and it was horrible but I have friends that are always there for me now but most of all I've learnt to be happy even when I'm alone. Trust me you're not the only one in your position and I hope things get better! Try talking to people or other kids that are alone!
In the US I feel like students are not used to having new kids at their school which is weird bc here in Saudi Arabia we have new kids coming all the time so I guess we’re used to it also new kids never sit alone here
Usually at lunch at my school throughout the day different grades go to lunch when it's middle School lunch no one ever wants to sit by me I try to talk to people but they usually move away from me when I try to talk to them

I honestly think that would get annoying at some points because when you go up to someone or see them eating alone you can never tell if they have friends or if they just want to be alone, some people are texting and some people are listening to music or just want to be by themselves. So if you all of a sudden come up to a person and expect them to be sad or lonely it could be kind of annoying when you invade their privacy.

I absolutely love that. Everyone in my school were just self centered and selfish ppl who only cared for themselves and just there friends. I've got severe social anxiety. In school, I could barely look people in the eye without my anxiety climbing. If somebody approached me like this club of very kind people approaches those who sit alone, I would have loved that. Even introverts wanna be social.
I wish I had this at my school when was still going to public, I’m home schooled now and I’m 15. I’ve always been the outcast, I’ve always been lonely every time especially at lunch. It’s one of the reason I used to hate getting up and going to school every morning, being lonely in school is awful and honestly no one should have to go threw that. I’m a introvert but deep down inside I really wanted someone to sit and hang out with. So all those comments about introverts want to be alone is not true all the time. I would have loved to have someone to keep me company even though I have a hard time talking to people, I make it awkward.

@@walwal6449 same. I’m going to 10th grade next year and I haven’t had real school friend since 2nd grade. I started being quite in 3rd grade because I noticed that cafeteria ladies were staring at me and it made me feel like I was some sort of exotic animal. So I decided not to show any kind of emotion and talk to others to see if they would stop staring at me but they didn’t for the rest of my elementary years. That ruined me becuz now I went through my entire middle school years without talking, and I was alone without any real friends becuz I didn’t know how to talk to others by then. I was depressed and felt alone even when my siblings were around. I still feel as if I’m being watched and I don’t know how to socialize anymore.

We usually play card games with each other so that's why I dont need to talk much and that's how I also started to go around with them. And they also included me despite the fact that I never really talked... I hope things get better on your end! If you dont mind some advice (you could know/already do these already but these are based on my experience): If you dont like to initiate talks (like me lol), see if any of your classmates tend to play anything (card games, football etc.) and ask if you can join too! (Assuming there are people who still play stuff in 10th grade). Also try to always say "yes" whenever someone tries to include you in some activity (unless it is something you absolutely dont want to do). One of my issues back then was that I had a tendency to be stubborn and decline doing things with people when they tried to include me and/or befriend me. It will prompt them to approach you again in the future and make them less afraid to ask again^^ Then again it depends on your school and your classmates, at my middle school and my classmates, there were always supportive and mature people so it may have been easier for me but it may be different for you;;
I should’ve done that back in middle school, there was a girl who would sit alone like everyday. Thankfully, the next school year, she found a friend group she was comfortable with

This is great, I know for a fact my school would never do this. I even asked them if we could put together some type of group to go around during lunch and help the kids who aren't eating or are sitting alone but they choose not to because it's not important. It's another reason of why I hate my school.
It's also pretty bad when you have to say that your teacher is bullying you and you're only in the sixth grade with more mental issues that I can count on two hands.
Maybe you think it's great, but in my opinion, it looks terrible. Some of us WANT to be alone. I purposefully sit by myself at lunch time. At least give people the CHOICE to sign up for this program, don't force them into it. It would be great if they had a program for them to sign up on and have someone sit with them, but to just randomly sit them next to someone? No thanks, because again, some of us want to be alone. We don't want to be forced to be a socialite every second. Your school probably doesn't do this because they want to respect the people who actually want alone time and not be forceful.
Elizabeth Stoner maybe some people are introverts or there waiting for someone like a friend i know if i was in high school i would most likely have friends but being alone isn't a bad thing because alot of kids in high school have social anxiety or they are autistic(dont know if i spelled it right) heck they could even just thinking and not wanting to bothered I have a little brother who is very bad and a little sister who is clingy and doesn't take a hint and sometimes I want to just lock my door and chill so yes it is humanly possible to want to be alone you have to respect personal space sometimes
It's a kind thing to want to do this at your own school, but look at it this way; you don't necessarily have to have an organized group of signed up participants. You could just as easily have a verbal agreement between yourself and anyone else that may want to participate & allow them (and yourself too, if you wanted) to pick and choose which days they want to help reach out to others. It is a kind thing to do..if only it means reading the body language of others who may want to just sit in silence or not have anyone sitting there with them at all. Sometimes just leaving that door of conversation and companionship open for others to know you're there if they need or want to talk to someone is all you need to do. Let others know that if they ever want someone to sit with you're always available, greeting those people in the halls and showing genuine interest in what they have to say...just offering friendship can mean a lot to those that seems to always be alone, silent, or sad. I lost both my parents within three years of each other. I was 12 & 15. Before their deaths I was a quiet introvert, not one for much talking & a shy person...afterward I still was and still am at 30. I felt very alone at school and was profoundly depressed during that time as well. I was the only orphan in that school and it wasn't til I was 17 that I met another orphan while working at Taco Bell. Honestly, the best and closest friends I had were the ones that would sit silently next to me and just be there instead of having to feel like the air needs to constantly be filled with words. This was a ridiculously long comment, sorry about that. Just be kind & reach out to others. Wish you much success. 😀

Being an asian kid at a school that is mostly filled with White people, you get kinda left out, weird looks, ignored etc. I haven’t really made any close friends after moving here but during lunch since I don’t have anyone to talk to, I just end up getting a head start on my homework. I came from a place where basically everyone knew me and this drastic change kinda hurts but it’s okay I’ll get over it soon.

During the time between classes, I got a library card, and checked out fiction to read at home. During the break between the first and second hour of my second class, a girl walked up to me and said I looked lonely. She asked me if I wanted to be friends with her and her friend. I said “yes.” I was doing okay/surviving without friends. I didn’t need rescue from a welcoming committee.

I remember during lunch, I would go to a side hallway near one of the staircases and eat by myself, because talking with people throughout the day can be emotionally draining for me. So it’s good for me to be by myself to regain that energy back. Not to say I don’t enjoy my friends. I just prefer being alone.

I'm an ambivert but more leaning in the introvert side. I was the class president and i perform (singing or dancing) in school programs. I also play basketball a lot with my classmates and friends. I have a lot of friends back when i was in school, but most of the time I don't go eat lunch with them. Usually i prefer to eat alone. I eat where there are not many people around. I don't feel left out or i don't feel lonely at all. It's just my personality. So the idea of a stranger talking to me suddenly and eating lunch with me so that i will not feel lonely, irritates me. If you eat lunch with me, it must be because you genuinely want to be friends with me. But when you approach me thinking that i'm lonely and desperately need people to be with to be happy, even though you don't know me personally, then you better not think of talking to me.

High school was the worst for me besides senior year and always will be. I was restlessly bullied and ignored and it wasn't until I moved schools that things changed. I was unhappy, depressed, and obsessed with my phone. I had no friends and no one liked me. Now I'm 19 years old and have a job, a lot of people I know from 12th grade still chat with me online, or say hi to me while at work. My coworkers are so understanding and do there best to help me out. For me, high school was never easy, and I wished it was.

Your probably to young to understand. But compared to the challenges you will face later in life, high school is super easy. You’ll wish you could go back. Don’t be afraid, just be ready.
I love this. Even for introverts who want to be alone, social interaction is a skill they need to learn. The person can learn about your anxiety and that you prefer to be alone, and they can let you be alone. But for most kids, they're not alone by choice and this club can change their lives for the better.

Well the thing is a lot of introverts know how to interact socially, they just prefer not to. So while it is nice that these people are giving others company, not everyone wants company even if you feel they need it

i know the feeling. I was that girl in school who always sat by herself. I had friends, but they weren't really real friends if you asked me. I was the one who just stayed to myself and out of drama, never ran with the crowds or was a troublemaker. I kept to myself a lot and was very observant. But sometimes it does get a little lonely to have no one to talk to.

omg i thought that girls always were the ones to have friends easily because they would normally talk to you and say hey. In my school i will sit outside where there are kids together but i be alone or go to libuary in winter/raining days to escape the crowded cafeteria. Middle school was worst and in elementary i was bullied the most. Alot of things happen to me as if god hated me. I actually never had best friends and the only thing i went out the most when i was younger are my cousins but rarely. Now that im 18 its kinda sad that i see kids who have friends at my neighborhood hang out and me not even having one. I used to go out when my brother was there and that was actually fun because i will go out and he didn't like it because it was his friends. when he left i had noone and was ignored my my neoighbor who my brother hanged out would call me names like scarface cuz i had a scar. Middle school was very fashionable (nice clothes)and my high school it was more like together cool fest or your weird kinda thing

I finished high school less than a year ago, and I was certainly one of the kids who sat alone. Occasionally people tried to talk to me, but I assumed their consideration was a form of teasing, like they were openly pitying me like I was some kind of failure. This is what social anxiety does to people.

I’m still in high school. People do occasionally talk to me but there a difference. It emotional just angers me. If they touch me I get so mad but I try my best not to give any reaction. I just shut them out and fully expect for them to leave, they do. So that’s that.

I’m sure if someone isn’t interested in meeting new people and doesn’t seem receptive they walk away. Like the kid at the end... he was playing his video games so he shook his hand and walked away. And it isn’t a FRIENDSHIP, it’s just so they know SOMEONE. Yes, they may know lots of people and be alone by choice, but it’s still nice to make sure everyone has that option of having a person to talk to or sit with if they ever wanted to or for some reason felt nervous being alone or any other reason and knowing the person is cool with it.

And I'd appreciate it. If they're kind enough to reach out in the first place also probably kind enough to understand if you wanna be left alone. I just see it as a net positive
Exactly, imagine minding your own business thinking about something, being in another world. Having literal shivers and being so happy inside because you’re thinking of your dream job, goal. Then someone comes up to you, sits next to you are try’s to talk. It completely catches you off guard, completely. You went from thinking of glory and doing what you love, to seeing some unknown human trying to get you to speak. I have to force words out sometimes, but mostly i’ll straight up ignore you. Don’t take me out of my own comfort zone and expect to to react so happily and become your friend. Don’t you dare except to to do that… i’m giving you a message, get away from me that’s what ignoring means! Take the hint… Treat me like a ghost I prefer that.

I spent every year of high school alone during lunch. Eventually I stopped going. I felt so lost and alone. It still affects me to this day.. These kids are such a blessing.

I remember when I was an exchange student in america I was sitting alone in lunch breaks for the first two weeks. The feeling when a random person walked up to me and talked me into hanging out with her and her friends was like a relief. Finally having someone to talk to and have a laugh toghether really helped me throughout all of the home sickness and lack of social connection.

I always thank god that when i went to high school at age of 16, i didnt know anybody and i was depressed but during lunch a bunch of teenagers told me to sit with them because they saw that i was new! That high school was heaven! I made friends with every class, just because the students were nice and Wanted to have friendship with everyone! ❤️🌈
i sit just by myself.. alone, at lunch like.. 95% of time and not just lunch but almost whole school day, iam mostly ignored and just noone is interested in talking to me, ..yea and thats how it is.. for about 4-5 years now.
but anyway.. guess what, iam still positive thinking, most time happy, motivated, and ambitiost guy..
although sometimes.. i almost want to die.. i feel so ugly, i feel like.. everyone on street is looking at me how.. weird and ugly.. being i am, and my confidence level is on complete zero

Andrew ThatsMee - honestly, I think everyone goes through that in high school. Feeling really insecure is a part of growing up. It makes you a kinder person because you learn to empathize with others.
Keep up with your studies and hopefully you can get a scholarship to a good college. I was a really nerdy poor kid and college really helped me become the person I wanted to be. I made life long friends and had a great time finding out who I was through my studies and life experiences.
I assure you that things do get better. And use the time that you're alone to get into art or writing. I did while in high school and it was very therapeutic and very beneficial for my studies.
Also, I don't know if teachers do this at your school, but when I was in high school some cool teachers let their students hang out with them in class during lunch. It's a good way to not feel alone when eating lunch and you get to meet other kids who feel the same way.
Good luck to you and don't let it get you down. High school is only four years of your life and you have the rest of it to figure out who you are and who your real friends will be.
I know it's a horrible feeling and you feel as though school will last forever without making friends but you will.. even if it takes years you'll meet some amazing people that will never let you be lonely. I went through this myself and it was horrible but I have friends that are always there for me now but most of all I've learnt to be happy even when I'm alone. Trust me you're not the only one in your position and I hope things get better! Try talking to people or other kids that are alone!

In the US I feel like students are not used to having new kids at their school which is weird bc here in Saudi Arabia we have new kids coming all the time so I guess we’re used to it also new kids never sit alone here
Usually at lunch at my school throughout the day different grades go to lunch when it's middle School lunch no one ever wants to sit by me I try to talk to people but they usually move away from me when I try to talk to them

Leah Bayer I’m sure you’ll find people that you can trust and be comfortable with. I didn’t open myself up until my 8th grade year. I don’t need to talk to lots of people, I’m fine with my own group of friends
I honestly think that would get annoying at some points because when you go up to someone or see them eating alone you can never tell if they have friends or if they just want to be alone, some people are texting and some people are listening to music or just want to be by themselves. So if you all of a sudden come up to a person and expect them to be sad or lonely it could be kind of annoying when you invade their privacy.
Well done to this guy for what he’s done. It’s truly amazing to see someone dedicate their time to make sure no one is left out during lunch and everyone is included. This is how schools should be. I absolutely love that. Everyone in my school were just self centered and selfish ppl who only cared for themselves and just there friends. To this day I didn’t have friends and was always by myself 😔I wish there was someone who was like that in my school 3/4 years back. I might have made friends then

I've got severe social anxiety. In school, I could barely look people in the eye without my anxiety climbing. If somebody approached me like this club of very kind people approaches those who sit alone, I would have loved that.

I wish I had this at my school when was still going to public, I’m home schooled now and I’m 15. I’ve always been the outcast, I’ve always been lonely every time especially at lunch. It’s one of the reason I used to hate getting up and going to school every morning, being lonely in school is awful and honestly no one should have to go threw that. I’m a introvert but deep down inside I really wanted someone to sit and hang out with. So all those comments about introverts want to be alone is not true all the time. I would have loved to have someone to keep me company even though I have a hard time talking to people, I make it awkward.

@@walwal6449 same. I’m going to 10th grade next year and I haven’t had real school friend since 2nd grade. I started being quite in 3rd grade because I noticed that cafeteria ladies were staring at me and it made me feel like I was some sort of exotic animal. So I decided not to show any kind of emotion and talk to others to see if they would stop staring at me but they didn’t for the rest of my elementary years. That ruined me becuz now I went through my entire middle school years without talking, and I was alone without any real friends becuz I didn’t know how to talk to others by then. I was depressed and felt alone even when my siblings were around. I still feel as if I’m being watched and I don’t know how to socialize anymore.

It has actually gotten better in my part, though I still dont talk that much at all, I've gained "friends" (idk if they really considers me as their friend lol) that is ok with me being quiet. We usually play card games with each other so that's why I dont need to talk much and that's how I also started to go around with them. And they also included me despite the fact that I never really talked... I hope things get better on your end!
If you dont mind some advice (you could know/already do these already but these are based on my experience):
If you dont like to initiate talks (like me lol), see if any of your classmates tend to play anything (card games, football etc.) and ask if you can join too! (Assuming there are people who still play stuff in 10th grade). Also try to always say "yes" whenever someone tries to include you in some activity (unless it is something you absolutely dont want to do). One of my issues back then was that I had a tendency to be stubborn and decline doing things with people when they tried to include me and/or befriend me. It will prompt them to approach you again in the future and make them less afraid to ask again^^ Then again it depends on your school and your classmates, at my middle school and my classmates, there were always supportive and mature people so it may have been easier for me but it may be different for you;;

The way my school is set up, there are plenty of places to sit off to the side unnoticed. I never felt judged when I sat alone.

This is great, I know for a fact my school would never do this. I even asked them if we could put together some type of group to go around during lunch and help the kids who aren't eating or are sitting alone but they choose not to because it's not important. It's another reason of why I hate my school.
It's also pretty bad when you have to say that your teacher is bullying you and you're only in the sixth grade with more mental issues that I can count on two hands.

Maybe you think it's great, but in my opinion, it looks terrible. Some of us WANT to be alone. I purposefully sit by myself at lunch time. At least give people the CHOICE to sign up for this program, don't force them into it. It would be great if they had a program for them to sign up on and have someone sit with them, but to just randomly sit them next to someone? No thanks, because again, some of us want to be alone. We don't want to be forced to be a socialite every second.
Your school probably doesn't do this because they want to respect the people who actually want alone time and not be forceful.

I have a little brother who is very bad and a little sister who is clingy and doesn't take a hint and sometimes I want to just lock my door and chill so yes it is humanly possible to want to be alone you have to respect personal space sometimes
It's a kind thing to want to do this at your own school, but look at it this way;
you don't necessarily have to have an organized group of signed up participants. You could just as easily have a verbal agreement between yourself and anyone else that may want to participate & allow them (and yourself too, if you wanted) to pick and choose which days they want to help reach out to others.
It is a kind thing to do..if only it means reading the body language of others who may want to just sit in silence or not have anyone sitting there with them at all. Sometimes just leaving that door of conversation and companionship open for others to know you're there if they need or want to talk to someone is all you need to do. Let others know that if they ever want someone to sit with you're always available, greeting those people in the halls and showing genuine interest in what they have to say...just offering friendship can mean a lot to those that seems to always be alone, silent, or sad.
I lost both my parents within three years of each other. I was 12 & 15. Before their deaths I was a quiet introvert, not one for much talking & a shy person...afterward I still was and still am at 30. I felt very alone at school and was profoundly depressed during that time as well. I was the only orphan in that school and it wasn't til I was 17 that I met another orphan while working at Taco Bell.
Honestly, the best and closest friends I had were the ones that would sit silently next to me and just be there instead of having to feel like the air needs to constantly be filled with words.

Being an asian kid at a school that is mostly filled with White people, you get kinda left out, weird looks, ignored etc. I haven’t really made any close friends after moving here but during lunch since I don’t have anyone to talk to, I just end up getting a head start on my homework. I came from a place where basically everyone knew me and this drastic change kinda hurts but it’s okay I’ll get over it soon.

쿵쿵 쿵 the u.s culture is very ISO no one talks to each other on the street no acknowledgement of each other's presence ( America are not very social). I experience the same thing as an haitian) we greet everyone we come across we dine together as students.
