one more thing if u can add .. tab settings impact on 'search', can i still get results in my search regardless of tab setting in my profile?

yes, regardless of tab settings. it depends on whether search is enabled for the object and which fields are searchable. results will show up based on that.

Chatter tab is not added as navigation item in my app, but made default on in the profile level, but still the Chatter tab is visible in my app. Any help on this ?

It needs to be added to the app to be visible on the app level.
