Why didn't the service have 8 or 9 coaches, which are now the norm for CrossCountry Voyager and Super Voyager services

CrossCountry were yet to make that decision, the 1M38 09.47 Bournemouth to Manchester Piccadilly, the service I was on is now operated by a pair of Class 220 Voyagers. The stock comes from services which are either cut back, not operating the full route (e.g. Newcastle to Birmingham New St and not to Reading or Southampton Ctl) that it normally would or simply not running at all
