Billy Strings - Dire Wolf (Grateful Dead Cover)

- I talked about my thoughts on #DireWolf for the Good Ol’ Grateful #Deadcast... listen on Dead.Net or wherever you get your podcasts! #DazeBetween ⚡️🌹
“Dire Wolf is so cool because you can really hear Jerry’s flat picking guitar and hear the bluegrass influences there… He’s playing some Doc Watson-like licks and stuff. I really dug into the verses and this song has layers, it’s really deep. I love the almost childish characteristics and ancient folk wisdom that Robert Hunter had.”

I would pay for a whole album of billy strings covers dead for sure. this guy is amazing.
Hell ya!!!!
Yeah, I feel like we got really lucky that he seems to be as big of a dead fan as the rest of us
I need this so much
Agreed!
Bloody oath . Where do I buy it ?
Jerry would be proud!!
Nicely done
hell yeah
My five year old heard me watching this. She came to look at who was singing and said, "His hair is so big!" I said, "Yeah!" And she yelled, "Oooh baby!" 😂
Lol
Good job
Priceless. Cheers.
Lol...out of the mouths of babes
The Dead always takes me back to college. Kicking the bag with friends after rips off the 3ft Graffix. Good times
Graffix, that takes me back. Now it’s hard to take a rip off a one footer.
Lol, Hell yea
@@incontruth4116 agreed love the graffix....I had one in college. love the hacky too
@@incontruth4116 Keep practicing. Soon you'll be an astronaut.

Beautiful Billy, simply Beautiful. Coming from a Deadhead who has seen the Dead from May 5th, 1977 (Baltimore) to Pittsburgh Summer of 95, well over 400 shows not to mention at least 100 JGB Shows! Keep on Jammin' Billy!!!!!!!
My first show was Marx Meadow, Golden Gate Park, 1972. Fresh from a firefight in Vietnam and my first acid trip. Since then I’ve seen 450 (or so) Dead shows and another 250 Jerry shows and a shitload of Phil & Friends, Ratdog, and various incarnations of the band. Some iconic Dead shows... Closing of Winterland, Watkins Glen and 10 shows on 10 nights at the Warfield in San Francisco! One of my all time favorites was The Grateful Dead opening for Pink Floyd at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. Lots of good memories and a ton of hallucinations!!
@@tdibell WOW Thomas!!!!! Thank You for Serving!!!! I've done many shows in San Fran and Oakland, and the Acid was always best in the Golden Gate Area!!!! I guess because "Bear" kept it flowing through our network of "DeadHeads"!!!!! I feel sorry for the ones who never saw the Dead especially on really clean Trips!!!!! Be Well My Friend In Spirit......!!!!!! Was it one of the many Free Concerts that they used to do in the Park? PS ~ facebook.com/jeff.haley.1232/
Y’all are some fortunate individuals!!! What stories you both have 💗 I never appreciated The Dead until I met my husband. He is 47, but was fortunate enough to see Jerry before he passed. He went to Buckeye Lake ‘93, Tampa ‘92, and Deer Creek ‘93. However, I have been blessed to partake in the Bear cultivation as well. The first time ever a bunch of misty fog and conifers reminded me of a cathedral! However, nature does bring us closer to the ethereal. Thank you for your service and thank you both for sharing those priceless memories with all who read. Blessed be one and all! Much love 💕
@@celenabarclay1488 You are so welcome Celena, and what you said about Nature is Truth!!!!Be Well and Happy Trails!!!!!!
Damn 5-5-77, thats a good show!
I wonder how Billy feels about being the savior of music? He can handle it!
I'm sure he feels the pressure. It can't be easy being on his steep trajectory and always able to pull a rabbit out of his hat to amaze us. We are blessed to have him.
He's the messenger we all need right now.
@@robertjachimiak4408 So true!
❤❤❤❤❤
Positive Vibrations
Mad respect for Billy. He’s amazing. I heard him on Grateful Dead channel on XM as a guest DJ a year or so ago and you can tell he loves the Dead and he plays the hell out of em.
Beautiful! Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile…!
The Dead will never die!
Just tour with Dead and Co already!!! And then treat us to an entire acoustic set!!!
Dnc is boring. Billy and the Kids are much better
When I’m in the garden today my girls get to hear another Billy Strings Jam. Great cover.
Sativa or Indica?
I have both going. I’ve done a lot of sativa now doing some indica. I’ve only been growing for 8 months or so.
Really doesn't get much better than that.
When ever I’m with my plants I always have music playing. I have always heard that plants like music. They listen to classical to rap to bluegrass.
I know Jerry would love to play with Billie.
Agreed
Hate to get all astrology but Leos and Libras get along very well, I definitely agree with your comment ;)
@@bobbert1761 You do realize that astrology is not real, right? Please tell me you know that.
I cant even o.o
He is the 1st guitar player in quite a while that i literally can't stop delving deeper into the rabbit hole. He is absolutely a saving grace for music and musicians.
Not only fun to watch, but an excellent tutorial on a classic tune. Great strait forward one dude performance. No lame commentary. Great camera angle for learning both hands. Thanks for this Billy.
I chuckled at how you cracked yourself up with the end of your solo. Thanks!
Glad to hear Billy spreading his vibe across the world
Great to hear Billy Strings do Dire Wolf, and I just love the way he smiles as he plays - pure joy!
Billy, you are truly unique. That is hard to do. Signed, A fan.
Billy, I’m really not somebody who make comments on the Internet. So this, being the 3rd time I’ve done so In regards to what you are doing with your art is for me both unusual and uncomfortable ?The reason I am penning this missive is I actually feel compelled to thank you while hopefully letting others know how special you really are. When people discuss the Grateful Dead and the Fat Man in Black, emotions and sometimes tempers fly, I get it.... not Everyone loves them. I was fortunate enough to seen Jerry (both GD and JGB) a lot of times. Additionally so blessed to have seen The David Grisman Quintet play a show with Doc Watson. (Carnegie Music Hall - Carnegie-Mellon University.) Thank you Doc. That was an amazing show for me and a big reason why I’m writing this now. So many of the other couple hundred additional artists I have seen are also talented and gifted performers; however, nobody and I mean anywhere in any genre can play, improvise, and straight fucking Jam as beautifully and competently as well as you. (I know how phenomenally good you are since I attempt to play as well) Keep it coming. Your humility does you justice. do you.. be you.... just Be
What Brian Said !
I 2nd that. This kids amazing. I'd pay for an album of just Dead cover's. He should tour with Dead and Company. That would be epic fer sure.
WOW !!! What else can be said. Just awesome. Thank you brother. Loving it here. Rick.
outstanding but volume setting low , technically Jerry winking both eyes, soul 100%. Have listened to you grow and evolve on sooo many levels past 5 yrs. forever fan
yes
do a version of Althea ...pleeeeeeeeeeeeze
@@RJDCR Yeah Althea would be Grate , and maybe a Scarlet/Fire too. Even better do a whole show of nothing but Dead tunes.
@@danielmorris3687 yeahhh
Wonderful version of a great old song, go Billy, can't wait to see you back out on the trail when all this madness is behind us. As an old Deadhead who heard this from Jerry many times long ago, it is so great to hear these good old songs -- and the spirit behind them -- brought to life for a new century and a new generation. Another vote for an expanded set of Garcia/Dead covers; love your "China Doll" btw!
Gawd damn BIll! I don't know if you do it on purpose, or what, but your ability to morph your voice for covers and some how capture tone and texture of the orignial artist is UNFREEKIN believable. You can sound like the essence of Doc, Jerry, Del, William Apostel, like some sort of vocal chameleon. It special and we are luck to get to hear you!
Right!!!!!! 💀🌸🙌🤯mad love for this!!! 💯🤘
Obviously Billy‘s guitar skills are out of this world and up there with legends..... his vocal chops are to me just as good! I could listen to him sing the abc’s and it would sound incredible! So freaking talented!
This is my favorite video right now. I would love an entire album of acoustic dead covers. So good.
Outstanding. This guy has such an old soul! Every strum, every word has deep feeling to each tone
