The 3ds to me will always be a part of my teenage years since I had made a lifelong friend from this system. I met him when he was playing smash on his 3ds. Never will forget that day. Love your content!!
As a Nintendogs' fan, I was highly disappointed of the sequel (Cats and Dogs) since they barely added anything other than cats and a little more features during the interactive walks.
If your capture board was from Katsukity you had to run audio from the headphone jack. Glad yours still works; mine died after a year, thankfully long enough to finish Y
I love Yo-Kai Watch and I'm glad I picked up number 3 when it came out physically since it's become really hard to get a cart of. The 3DS is probably my most utilised console because I did practically my entire university life (8 years, whoo boy) commuting about an hour and spent most mornings playing my 2DS. I also used it as a pedometer and got addicted to all the little quirks in it as I picked up so many Miis at uni. It's also where I finally discovered Dragon Quest is good, actually. I kind of wish I got the Capture Card model as it's a pain to get in PAL. Overall, I can definitely appreciate your mixed feelings as you were probably at peak TH-camr when the 3DS Pokemon games were out.
I just remembered how upset I was because the 3DS faceplates never came to America... I really wish the Switch came out with a feature like that, I know its kind of unnecessary but I love the idea of being able to customize your console
I’m here for the Wii U hate. I didn’t get it at launch, because I was in high school and had no money of my own, but I remember being so excited to get one when Mario Kart 8 came out. And I still stand by that game being excellent, but aside from that and a few other games that were also quite fun, the support was not very consistent and had already almost completely faded like a year and a half later. Going back to it now is so frustrating that it never feels worth it. It’s slow, the gamepad feels cheap and picks up dust so easily, it’s not ergonomic like you said, and pretty much no games took good advantage of the dual screen capabilities after Nintendo Land. I’m so glad the Switch is mostly quite simple, fast, and easy to use. It’s maybe not a perfect system but it’s such a huge redemption.
As a console it was underpowered. As far as a gimmick the gimmick was just odd (the screen controller isn’t actually that fun). The switch works because the gimmick is simple and work. It’s a hand held you can remove the controllers from and dock. That’s it. It works :)
the only time a wii u is ever good is if you install homebrew on it. I think back on all the virtual consoles you get (ds, wii, gamecube, n64, etc) and remember it fondly, but no, most of the games are unavailable from nintendo themselves, as well as some of the consoles straight up.
the wii u games are pretty good but with the exclusives dwindling and the fact that if you're not interested in all genres or virtual console then you're not going to get much mileage. at least it's good for homebrew now.
I actually just got into playing Gen V Pokémon because of your streams, and it finally gave me a reason to go through my collection to find my ol' reliable 2DS. I avoided Gen V like the plague for some reason when it was still ongoing, but 2020 is the year of plague, after all.
A ton of ppl avoided Gen 5 at the time, due to it being hated just cause ppl couldn't use their old Pokemon until after they beat the game even though that was solved in Black and White 2
@@segunthepikachufan1470 But why would anyone want to play Black/White 2 if they haven't played the original Black/White? Even though it's not exactly necessary to have played the first, just having that 2 and being a direct sequel probably turns even more people off

I'm actually surprised at how much I got out of the 3DS. It's a really stellar handheld with a lot of great titles on it. Not all of them are hits, but I definitely have a lot of fond memories with that system. My favorite game for it would probably be Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright. I've unfortunately fallen victim to the amiibo craze and have desperately been trying to finish my collection. I'm really hoping I'll be able to finish this collection at some point in time because I would love to finally be able to display these things. I've kept them all boxed and in storage so far and am waiting until I have them all before I go out and get a proper shelf them. And yes, the crown jewel of my collection is also Chibi-Robo. I wound up getting 2 of them, since they were so cheap and it is without question the best amiibo ever to be produced. I didn't regret getting a Wii U at the time, but looking at it now, and seeing how basically every single game for it has been ported to the Switch with improvements in quality, load times, and extra content.... yaaaa, let's just say if I had a time machine, I would definitely go back in time and tell past me to skip out on the Wii U. My favorite game for the console is ironically not even an original title, which is Wind Waker HD. As soon as that gets ported to the Switch, the Wii U has absolutely no purpose for me, aside from playing Wii and Virtual Console games.
Hi, just wanted to say I've been watching since 2014, back when my 3DS was my only form of watching TH-cam. I was 8 then, I'm 14 now and I'm still watching today
as a guy who still plays his 3ds to this day this was cool to see I love handhelds and I don't ever see myself not playing them especially since the 3ds has such a great library
I understand your thing about amiibo but as someone who loves mother 3 literally the only piece of media for it that exists in the West is Lucas's amiibo and I'm really happy to have it.
I found a sealed copy of ziplash yesterday on the floor of the toysection of walmart, when I scanned it, it was marked as a 5 dollar UTZ cheeseball so I bought it great product nintendo👍
You along with other poketubers helped me get in to the fandom so I feel like checking on your channels even though I don't watch them as much. Thank you for making a huge part of my early childhood!
Also, if Chaz hasn't bought Revelations, I would highly recommend it because it fully completes the story once you've played through Conquest and Birthright.
@Tungsten Dioxide I'll be honest, the story isn't the best anyway, but Revelations still fills in some of the plot holes. I think it's only like $20 if you already have the other two.
Alright Imma popoff on that Nyko Power pad. That rat bastard battery pack MELTED INTO MY LAUNCH 3DS. I took it over to my neighbor, the man can jury rig a commodore 64 into running Crysis if you give him enough time. Came back to me saying "something melted in the system itself, IDK what can be done man." Told him it was no trouble and sulked back home. Never buying Nyko again, it took the price for the X and Y launch up from around $40 to over $300 (got really lucky and got a Special Edition 3DSxl instead of the 2ds I asked my folks for)
Hey Tama, I've been a fan of your channel for a long time now, and I love that you're helping to promote black owned businesses. I really haven't seen a lot of other youtubers using their platforms in this way, and it's really awesome. My wife is a black business owner as well. She started an online resale shop this past year called The New Black (thenewblackclothing.com). She wanted people to have more options to get cute outfits without resorting to fast fashion and hurting the environment. But her store is really cool, and I really love her, and I just thought I'd ask if you would be interested in promoting her business as well. Anyway, I love the channel. I know I'm probably asking too much, so I completely understand if you can't do it. Also, I've actually really enjoyed the collection series that you're in right now. :D
I try to keep my audience in mind when promoting and my demographics skew really heavily male, so I may not be a good fit for her store if it only sells clothing for women. If her store has a large male user base have her email me :)
I have to say, I do partially agree with you on how impractical some of the amiibo figures are to store. I've been collecting all the Link and Splatoon amiibo just for the exclusive gear they provide for the respective games, but I've found it difficult to make space for storing them. I had to keep them together in a plastic carrier bag to begin with, which resulted in a lot of the Link amiibo swords getting bent and were difficult to straighten up again. But at least I was mostly using them for their in-game functionality rather than as collectible figures. I used the Wii U quite a bit back in 2014 but there's not much reason for me to use it now, except maybe to play Wii games on that I backed up save data to!
I own about 16 physical Wii U games, i didn't hate the console personally and enjoyed playing on it. I own all Pokémon Amiibo, the wooly Yoshi ones, some of Xenoblade and others. I didn't mind Amiibo joining my collection since we played Skylanders before they came and collected plenty of those too. Also you aren't alone on owning a lot of 3DS systems and i just checked but i own more than you, granted some are still sealed in box but yeah i definitely bought a good amount of them hehe
I like the juxtaposition between you tearing into Nintendo for 13 minutes, interspersed with the occasional “oh, and Yo-Kai Watch is a really fun & underrated kids game, I liked it!”
If you don't care to buy an amiibo, my suggestion, get an NFC enabled android phone, an app called Tagmo, and NTAG 215 NFC tags. Now you can download and write amiibos to the NFC tags.
I liked the WiiU I bought nsmbu,3d world, twilight princess hd,botw, and kirby and the rainbow curse. I migrated most of my WiiU games to both my Switch & Switch Lite.
I feel you on the amiibo tbh. I only wanted them because of the characters, such as Mewtwo. Now I've got the sweet poseable figuarts Mewtwo and the Amiibo hasn't been seen since. The only real use they had was to get the traditional green tunic in a Zelda game I didn't even enjoy. All in all the 3DS era has been the one I've been least invested in. I never liked the circle pad and had to super glue a grip on it just to keep it from getting slippery after ten minutes of Mario Kart 7. I liked the 2DS but I haaaaate the floppy little plastic on the back of the "new" models.
I have so much admiration and respect for you as a content creator. I started watching your videos many years ago, and I am always happy to watch a new one.
Great vid Tama 😊 I definitely share your sentiments about amiibos. They’re extremely gimmicky, too small to be a good figure, and honestly probably too boring to be a good toy for kids. Not to mention that whole thing where they made them extremely limited to artificially increase demand-and most of them just ended up being scalped on eBay-which left a really bad impression on me. It came across as greedy and very anti-consumer. I don’t think amiibos will age well at all.
I have the new 3ds Pokémon 20th anniversary edition, it’s nice but it’s unfortunate that it’s just removable plates and not the fixed console, dope collection !
That's actually the appeal of the {small} new 3ds. They wanted them to be changeable, and therefor, collectable, like how some people swap out phone cases all the time to suit their mood/style. The problem is that they didn't really support the idea outside of Japan, so outside of there, new/multiple faceplates just weren't available and it doesn't really make much sense, on top of the {small) new 3ds just being only released limited in the first place.
For me the 3ds really was a big step for me in gaming. I got my original 3DS around its launch when I was in 4th grade. It was the first console I'd saved up to buy with my own money and it was exciting. And now in my second year of college looking back I never had an abundance of 3ds games and didn't really play it nearly as much during the last 3 years but I'm finally getting some of the big games I've always wanted but never got around to. While the DS got me through early childhood the 3ds was there with me through my whole adolescence and seeing its ended support feels like the end of an important constant that has been with me through many chapters of my life.
Tamashii, I've been a fan for almost a decade now. It really means a lot to me and is so comforting that you make a point to support black lives in your videos. I love you and what you do so much. Thank you, and may you get more and more recognition.
You can capture sound through the Loopy board by running an aux cable from the headphone port to a mixer. (You’d need to get a ground loop isolator to eliminate any static.) 👍🏻
Wow, that black monster hunter 3DS is so beautiful! I really want one now. Amiibos had a small window of time where they became so useless and did not became such a collectors item yet that they were so cheap I think it was really worth it, specially for more obscure characters that you really like, like you said. And your collection is awesome! I too am a fan of Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem, so I dont think its weird at all.
I also kinda regret my Wii U and I wasn't even the one who bought it, my parents got it for me as a Christmas present I've used it to watch Netflix more than anything else, the one thing that's keeping me okay with it's existence is the knowledge that the regular old Wii we have is a family console so one day when I leave home my Wii U will sort of exist in place of a Wii anyway? Not that I really play the Wii anymore lol,,,,,I truly hope I can find more use for it in the future
I bought my Wii U a year or two after the Switch released, and I rarely use it as a wii u. I either use it as a Wii, or Gamecube. It's 100% because of the native hdmi output.
It was good to see all these things and the stories that came with them. 3DS and DS were the first handheld consoles that I really got into heavily. As for the Wii U, I feel at this point homebrew makes it actually usable. Even without it, it at least makes for a way to capture DS games through the Virtual Console through HDMI, while keeping a similar enough control scheme to an actual DS. I mostly use mine as a Virtual Console or Wii/GameCube machine, though. The hidden GameCube backwards compatibility you can get through homebrew means it's basically a cheap HDMI GameCube + Wii + overall Virtual Console machine that also has Wii U stuff thrown in, I guess. I don't play many actual Wii U games on it. The battery for the GamePad is awful unless you buy an official expanded battery pack (long gone) or a third party expanded battery (hit or miss, not all work as expected). Plus the range is terrible and I can't even play it all around the house unless the walls were to be extremely thin or something. I didn't hate the Wii U, but even without the naming etc issues to keep people from buying it due to thinking it was a controller for the Wii, it really wasn't destined for greatness.
When I was little I remember asking my older sister.I want to homebrew my 3ds than my older sister said no because I will brick my console and get a new one. Still to today I still want to homebrew my 3ds
Tbh I really liked the Wii U. I think the gamepad is super comfortable and stuff like Splatoon 1 and Pikmin 3 were awesome (I still think splatoon 1 was better than 2 tbh) I get why people really don't like it, and maybe I'm blinded by the past, but I love the Wii U.
I like the Wii U a lot actually. Homebrew lets you play gamecube roms on the Wii-channel. So you can essentially play games from every Nintendo home console ever through one HDMI cable. Upscaling looks pretty great through HDMI also!
I think it's wonderful how 3DS collection can differs so much from player to player. Collection in my case is formed by Shin Megami Tensei games, Etrian Odyssey, Persona Q, Tales of the Abyss, Xenoblade, Bravely, 7th Dragon, and so on. Jrpgs like those. I've got Pokémon and Fire Emblem games too since I love both series. Same with The Legend of Zelda. I have at least one Monster Hunter (Tri Ultimate) and one Animal Crossing (New Leaf) so I can say I enjoy them too. A friend of mine is an absolute Kirby fan. Another person I know is an Inazuma Eleven fan. 3DS is a monster.
I agree so hard with you on amiibo. Stupid gimmick for locking content that just should be downloadable. At least you can spoof amiibo with an android phone, if you want their in-game function without paying for a figure, but the whole problem shouldn't exist in the first place.
Your New Leaf town is so pretty and inspiring me to improve mine, wow. Another great video by the way! I’m more attached to my 3DS it seems but then again I don’t play it for work so I’ve only had a leisure system relationship with it. I really enjoy these looks into your collection ^.^
Your collection brought me joy. I love the 3DS. I wish the same features were brought to the switch. Unfortunately, no mic on the switch, no cameras, no stylus, and no download & play. No miiverse and no Mii Plaza.
I got a cool yoshi 3DS... that’s about the extent of my collection lmao. Loving the continuous support of the black-owned businesses, as well. That’s so admirable
The Wii U is maybe 2nd or 3rd of my all-time favorite consoles, since it can play every Zelda game, almost every Mario game, the best Xenoblade game (XCX), and was just generally a blast. I loved its library, and I loved how light the pad was, despite looking like it should be heavy. And I personally think Mario Maker 1 was better than 2, because the pad made designing stages easier, and the costumes were awesome.
I've heard the Wii U is actually one of the best homebrew consoles out there since it can run what the virtual console could including gamecube. It is possible to run any rom as a digital game on the Wii U through virtual console since I believe it uses a certain emulator for each console
I envy you. 95% of the time when a new game/system comes out, I end up buying it and not waiting for the special editions. I can’t bring myself to buy all of them.
Really dig these collection vids, and curious as to what the next retro system will be. I'm guessing PSP or NES! And yeah, my Wii U is now a VC machine too. I used to love that thing back in the day, but reflecting on it now I'm 99% positive that most of that love came from it being the web browser I used from 2012-2016 before I got my macbook, since it is a really solid web browser. In terms of new games, I didn't really get into much of anything save for Smash 4 and Pokken, and the indies I reviewed or grew to really love were almost always ported elsewhere anyway, or had better versions on other consoles, like Zen Pinball 2. So it was the VC that I used more than anything, and having not played a lot of third party vc stuff on the wii, I was able to get into tons of franchises on the Wii U, even though the nes virtual console emulation is horrid due to the darkening and blur filters you can't turn off. But the GBA and Turbografx 16 stuff was super good to the point that's the only reason I still use my Wii U to this day (TG16 stuff, I retired when the Mini console launched)
I don’t regret buying a Wii U because I had a ton of fun with Splatoon and used it to play party games with friends. But I ended up selling it very shortly after I got my Switch. I just didn’t have any reason to use it because basically all the games I played on it got ported to the Switch or got a sequel.
Always great to watch your videos. I have the zelda special new 3ds xl from GameStop. I originally was gonna get a basic one but the employee recommended the zelda one since it was cheaper! (Brand new too)
I love your videos! The 3DS is seriously my second favorite DS system. And the audio sound has to do with the headphone jack port. From what I’ve seen, to capture the audio you gotta connect a cable to plug into the 3ds to the computer.
I really loved Fantasy Life and the Wii U Gamepad though I do wonder if part of why is that I had fond memories of those tablets and I'm a guy with hands that make some normal controllers uncomfortable so the size of the wii u gamepad was really convenient for me. I also hadn't tried the DS virtual console so didn't have those bad experiences.
It’s nice to see the collection and hear the stories that come with, hope everything is going well for you in this crazy time.

@@Tama-Hero Yeah, she sells both men's and women's clothing :D I'll have her email you then :D :D :D
What I exclusively use my 3DS for now: *SMT & Persona*
0:42 I love this warning. that way, when you trash my favorite games I won't be sensitive about it
I liked the WiiU I bought nsmbu,3d world, twilight princess hd,botw, and kirby and the rainbow curse. I migrated most of my WiiU games to both my Switch & Switch Lite.
Interesting perspectives 🤔 very excited for you to cover Wii.
As someone who is fascinated by all things 3DS, I am very much enjoying this video
It's not weird your room is adorable and you should be proud of it
I feel you on the amiibo tbh.
Long live the 3DS!!
I'm glad this is back... I loved these series
Tama Hero? More like Tama Zero! As in, the number of subscribers she’ll have after her name change!
9:27 Scott the Woz would be proud
I remember I found this channel back in the days of X and Y shiny hunting. Good times.
The Wii U walked so the Switch could run.
I also kinda regret my Wii U and I wasn't even the one who bought it, my parents got it for me as a Christmas present
I've used it to watch Netflix more than anything else, the one thing that's keeping me okay with it's existence is the knowledge that the regular old Wii we have is a family console so one day when I leave home my Wii U will sort of exist in place of a Wii anyway? Not that I really play the Wii anymore lol,,,,,I truly hope I can find more use for it in the future
maybe the audio thing is a Loopy thing, because I usually have to have my Mic near the system to capture the audio as well.
nice video. I feel I have also amassed a small collection of 3ds consoles. my favourites where the Yoshi one, and the Happy Home Designer one
Interesting video! I've just ordered a 3DS capture card myself and can't wait to try it out :D
I bought my Wii U a year or two after the Switch released, and I rarely use it as a wii u. I either use it as a Wii, or Gamecube. It's 100% because of the native hdmi output.
You don't have a problem, you're not a hoarder, you're a humble collector. You have some unique stuff.
You are missing Fire Emblem Awakening for your collection. Best title RPG outside of Pokemon. That was my favorite game on 3DS.
Idk why but this channel always brings me nostalgia
I was really surprised to see Etrian Odyssey 4 downloaded on your 3DS. Love that game!
Upscaling looks pretty great through HDMI also!
im really glad to know im not the only maniac who likes to collect 3ds systems
Your videos have inspired me to try my hand at digital commentary. It’s daunting but fun. So I appreciate your work.
Just bought a new 3ds the other day, accidentally bricked my other one. Still my favourite console of all time.
Silly Question - Does anyone know who "Chaz" is, he's mentioned in every single video?
th-cam.com/video/UdvwmZHiY_Q/w-d-xo.html Here ya go
@@Tama-Hero Ah Okay, that was before i subbed to channel - sorry!!
I was thinking this too... dammit chaz :(
@@TheDragonaf1 Hey no problem, I have kind of a big catalogue so I don't expect everyone to know all of it lol
I believe the circle pad pro was usable in 8 or 9 games like final fantasy explorers, resident evil revelations and metroid prime federation force
I've heard the Wii U is actually one of the best homebrew consoles out there since it can run what the virtual console could including gamecube. It is possible to run any rom as a digital game on the Wii U through virtual console since I believe it uses a certain emulator for each console
Scott when he sees the part where Tama hates on Zip Lash: *There is Another*
Fantasy Life is a masterpiece of a game
I envy you. 95% of the time when a new game/system comes out, I end up buying it and not waiting for the special editions. I can’t bring myself to buy all of them.
Sold my Wii U collection while it still had value, haven't regretted it once. The Switch is amazing
Your activism of promoting businesses of color is admirable. Subtle, effective and not loud enough to be obnoxious. Leaving a like
Really dig these collection vids, and curious as to what the next retro system will be.
Love these!! Thank you for showing us so much of YOU!
Bruh. I also have the pearl pink 3DS with a Loopy capture board installed in it.
Mine has a Kirby face vinyl sticker on the front of it though.
I don’t regret buying a Wii U because I had a ton of fun with Splatoon and used it to play party games with friends. But I ended up selling it very shortly after I got my Switch. I just didn’t have any reason to use it because basically all the games I played on it got ported to the Switch or got a sequel.
I see youre a fan of Etrian Odyssey 4 and Fantasy Life I see youre a person of culture
Highly recommend Nintendo Land for the WiiU if you've never played it.
The weird Gameboy collection video is how I discovered this channel
I never had a Wii U, but I feel the same way about my Xbox One as you do about your Wii U.
Between my partner and I, we have 5 working consoles but you guys are so cool!
