damn I miss McClelland blends. In fact, after they closed shop I just stopped smoking pipes for the most part. There will never be another Frog Morton.
Love that you twisted your tongue on “Cringle Flake”… I had to try so hard to not say “Cringle Cake” in my review of 2022 blend😂. My 2023 just came in today and I’ll be trying it tomorrow morning. Cheers and Happy Sipping, Z~
Hi Wilson, I’ve watched many of your videos but for some reason I’ve never subscribed to your channel but I’ve just rectified that now. I’m over the pond in North Yorkshire 🇬🇧 and I’ve been following the ytpc for over a year now and really enjoyed the company and reviews and just chat. Great reviews of your tobaccos the good and the bad and the ugly. Hope you had a great Christmas and all the very best for 2024.
Please do a short video on nicotine levels and what to watch for as far as high and low potency tobacco types and blends. So us nicotine lightweights know what to look for when buying a blend. Example: i like to have a pipe for flavor, relaxing and the act of having a smoke, not to get bombed by high levels of nicotine. I hate that feeling. i like low weak blends.
Great list, will have to try some of those, especially your #1. This year the Virginia/Orientals really grabbed me. I have been loving G.L. Pease Geometrie, Temple Bar, & Cornell & Diehl Morning Light. I plan to crack open a 5 year old tin of Temple Bar on Christmas.
I’m pretty new to pipe tobacco, but I’ve been buying and trying all sorts of blends. My buddy sent me an aromatic called ‘Christmas Blend’ from a company called ‘For His Pleasure’, and oh my, it’s like smoking mint chocolate. It’s delicious! I’d say so far my favorite blends are ‘Early Morning Pipe’, ‘Eastfarthing’, and that ‘Sleepy Hollow’ blend that was recommended on this channel. Delightful.
I'm pretty new to pipe smoking, been smoking cigars for a few years. Some blends I've enjoyed are Ashton Artisan's Blend, GL Pease Maltese Falcon, Gaslight, and Quiet Nights. Some I didn't enjoy are Haunted Bookshop and Warped Until the End. Not much of an aro smoker, but did enjoy Autumn Evening.
Yes, Autumn Evening with its maple flavor and aroma is awesome!! It's too bad the Haunted Bookshop isn't very good. I have an unopened tin on my shelf. Bummer!😅
@@TheSpurgeonPiperThanks for the feedback. I just now tried the Haunted Bookshop Cake and it's got a musty, earthy and slightly leathery note with just enough Virginia to bring in a little sweetness. Not my favorite but not too terrible either. 👍
Two of my favorites from this year, neither of which would be considered a “new releases” and both being from GL Pease. Sextant and Sixpence. I loved Sextant from the first smoke so it’s become an old friend already! Sixpence surprised me however as I bought a tin of it last year and smoked through it. I didn’t hate it then but it didn’t blow my socks off either, it was kind of blah to me. I decided to give it another go this year and to my amazement I enjoyed it so much that it wormed its way into a more regular rotation for me! Maybe I got a bad tin last year, maybe I got a more matured tin this year, maybe my tastebuds changed a bit, who knows. Merry Christmas Wilson and thanks for all you’ve done for YTPC this year! Looking forward to new content on your channel in 2024 brother!
Sixpence has spoiled my view of Pease's blends lately. First tin was amazing and I immediately ordered another one, I ended up opening the new tin while I still had some of the first tin left and they were nothing alike. The second tin was totally bland and tastless compared to the first tin, and they were dated as made the same month. I was planning on stocking up on it, but that's not going to happen with so much variation between tins, unfortunately.
Good Evening Wilson 😊 Awesome list Brother 👏🏼 Thanks for Sharing 👍🏼 Appreciate your time and review and thoughts on the blends 😋 Have a blessed day and Merry Christmas to you and your family🎄Love ❤ Hugs 🤗 Blessings 🙏🏽 From South Africa 🇿🇦
Enjoying your channel. Thanks for all the info/content this year!Having some hiking now. I smoke burleys with spice notes in the evening thinking the time is better suited for it, but reality is I don’t think I like the spice all that much. Got to find the right drink to go with it …cider or booze maybe. You mentioned pairing with coffee … I like that 4th generation 1989 blend Virginia in the mornings. Something about coffee creamer and Virginias-where it’s at for me.
I tried Cringle Flake 23 over the weekend and while the taste is great I have never experienced a blend that gave me more tongue bite. Cheers to 2023 Wilson, and here's to many more happy smokes in 2024.
My favorite blend families are backwards from what I expected when I started. I am an English guy, which surprises me. I don't like burley in a lot of stuff, but there are some pure Burley blends that I positively love! Opposite that is my taste for Virginias, my least favorite by itself but goes great in nearly everything. Although, I love a good Va Per
I found some Peterson De Lux for $15 and bought 2 having never tried it. My wife and I both loved it so i will be keeping an eye out for some tins to age. Merry Christmas brother!
I’m still enough of a newbie that all my tobacco purchases currently are to sample, to see what I like or dislike. I can tell you that I love Cavendish in a blend. More of that, please.
I love the video with your thorough critique. I have a question. Is it better to age big a tin of tobacco without opening it and then put it in smaller containers or is it better to age it in smaller airtight containers right when you get the tobacco?? Thanks for the videos.👍
If I plan not to smoke a big tin immediately, I'll just leave it in the tin. I have several 8oz tins in my cellar that are several years old that I don't plan on opening anytime soon.
Love your content. What would your recommend for beginners for when it comes to Virginia type tobaccos. Thanks in advance and merry Christmas God bless
I think a Orlik Golden Slice could be a solid option on the more grassy, bright side. On the darker, fruitier side, Sutliff's Red Virginia Crumble Kake.
Hello, I am about to buy my first tobacco pipe and am wondering if the fact that we may try different tobacco flavors with the same pipe is a problem? I mean, cleaning as I understood it should be done after every smoke, but wouldn’t the previous flavor be still in the pipe or wouldn’t it affect the aroma and taste? Thank you.
C&D's Oriental Silk got a positive rating number on Tobacco Reviews, so I had to try some. I should have paid closer attention to the blend's composition of mostly bright Turkish and Virginia, along with some Perique. It reminds me of a question I got when tasting at a chili cookoff. The question was, "Is it hot enough for you?" rather than "Does it taste good?" I like pepper and cayenne, but not as the main ingredients in chili or pipe tobacco. But, with a 3.42 rating on Tobacco Reviews, other folks must like it.
Whale Song is good, but Watch City's Rouxgarou knocks it out of the park. One of the few VaPer's I'm into at this point as most are just too bland for me. No latakia on your list here; my tops for this year (and most year) would definitely be latakia blends, like this year's From Beyond, G.L. Pease's Samarra that I tried for the first time and loved, and Gawith's Commonwealth Mixture (another I hadn't tried till this year but is awesome). Cheers!
Wilson those are some awesome blends I love burley blends so I think the wessx blends amazing very hard to find I've never tried the Black xxx I have some crinkle Christmas blend from 2019 I believe I haven't open the tin this year for Christmas I'm opening my DAYS OF YORE FROM2016 I HAVE A TIN OF THE DUNHILL NAVY ROLL Thanks so much for sharing your Blends of 2023 a great selections happy smokes my friend all the best in 2024😃😃😃😃👋👋👋👋👋🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💨💨💨💨💨☕☕☕🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
I love me some Gawith blends! I like them all: the Englishes, the Virginia flakes, and even the Lakeland blends (love them!) I did NOT Like the black rope at all. Totally agree.
Mr. Spurgeon it certainly is a travesty to covet a tobacco you do not care for, and I will solely take on the responsibility of taking that black xx off your hands sir 😂 It’s truly amazing how subjective our tastes are. I tried escudo for the first time this week. It is a most beloved blend. My thoughts? Mediocre lol. I was very underwhelmed. I wanted to like it. It was certainly not bad. But it is also will not be a staple for my vaPer needs.
The music is a nice touch. Another great vid. Thank you!
Thanks 👍
damn I miss McClelland blends. In fact, after they closed shop I just stopped smoking pipes for the most part. There will never be another Frog Morton.
Excellent choices! We can’t get most of them in Italy 🇮🇹 but they sound great. Just subbed you. Thanks and kind regards, SF.

As someone who also doesn't like Haunted Bookshop, I'd say give it a try. Pipe smoking is quite subjective. Many love HB, some don't.

Ya I'm with you there. As I mentioned in the video, I purposefully pull for my filtered pipes on this one, which helps immensely.
I have two in-opened tins of the 2023 Warped Blend I would be willing to trade/sell.
What’s your name on Facebook I’m interested
Sorry for the typo, un- opened

C&D Folklore was my favorite purchase this year. The packaging was artistic
but the 16 ounce bricks have sold out.
I didn't purchase this year's as I still have plenty from last years. I need to pull some out and try it again
Beards looking great man.

Anthology 23 , Atalaya, Kringle flake 22 & 23, cascadia trailhead, and many more lol.

Bourbon and tobacco ? love the transition from the beginning of your videos to now. you now look like a pipe smoker .
Man, I was bummed to not see a Scarecrow release in 2023. Hopefully we'll get one in '24, I've only got 1 tin left.

I love me some Sutliff red cake. Just smoke softly or it will bite.
What is the background song name? I have noticed it before on another TH-cam channel I like.

Yes with aromatic blends, that is a likely issue. That's why some would encourage you to have one pipe dedicated to aromatic blends
@@TheSpurgeonPiper thank you! Who’s playing the music in the background if I may ask? I like it a lot.

I have enjoyed the Red Haunting by Warped.
De lux navy rolls, and 4th gen morning blend. Bought pounds of both!
You might like low country Edisto. Straight red virginia flake. Best regular production red virginia flake I have found.
I actually have a couple of tins in the cellar. I enjoyed it, though didn't have the stone fruit and vinegary character so much that I look for.

Worst blend- chenet's cake
Best Gawith and Hoggarths Bobs Chocolate flake
Worst Samuel Gawith Chocolate flake
Interesting. I'll need to do a comparison at some point. I know I have Samuel Gawith's in the cellar but I'm not sure if I have GH's.
