The video does not address a couple of issues between ICE, hybrid, and EV's for the consumer. 1 Safety. EV fires in parking garages and home garages are a liability. EV's with doors that don't function in a crash and resulting fire is terrifying for consumers. 2 Cold Weather. EV charging in cold weather is a real problem with Lithium battery technology in EV's. Most Hybrids use NiMh technology instead. 3 Long trip range anxiety. A 5 minute gas station stop on 300 plus mile trips to relatives is now a real advantage. 4 Most downtown areas, with Condos and Apartment high density housing do not have or want the risk of fire with dense parking and EV charging related fires. 5 Cost. Inner cities utilize public transportation. The cost prohibits parking an EV and using transit for most of the time. 6 Charging infrastructure. In some cities, vandalism of chargers is a real problem with theft of charging cables. People are using the spots for extended parking after the vehicle charging is completed is a problem. People just don't use spots at gas pumps for parking for extended periods of time.
These arguments are all a bit strange. 1) Gas cars catch fire 10x more than EVs. There's also a manual release to open the door, in every car. 2) There's no problem charging a lithium ion battery in the winter. NiMh is worse in cold weather. 3) I guess you're right. Though I typically stop for 15 minutes for long trips which costs $10 instead of $60 in a gas car. 4) Why would there be a fire? Typically a fire starts when a car crashes because something has punctured the battery at high speed. 5) Now you're comparing EV to public transport instead of a hybrid. You still need to park a hybrid. 6) You can charge your EV in a parking lot at a grocery store or mall while you go get something inside.
@@TMIOTesla The ones with the actual stats for the rate of fires per 100,000 vehicles are those who pay for the damage. Ask your insurance agent about the number of car fires at gas pumps vs the car fires at EV charging stations. Look online for the videos of electric scooters, bikes, etc, vs the videos of cars sitting overnight and self combusting. Why would there be a fire? Look into the statistics of battery failures and Thermal Runaway. Ask your insurance agent about the risk of charging EV's indoors. Yes I know gas fumes in indoor spaces and static is a problem too. Look for videos of EV fires at charging stations. Yes there are car fires at gas stations too. It is true the EV's have manual door releases. There are those trap[ed in EV's who did not know about the location of the release. If you have an EV. be absolutely sure you and all your passengers know how to use it.
All old news. Since when did anyone with respect for their own life and those of other road users stop for only 5 minutes on a 300 mile trip? Most of your other objections are being or have been addressed. I also suggest you look into relative numbers of ICE and EV fires. You might learn something.
@@rogerphelps9939 I visit my parents regularly. They live 180 miles away on a rural farm. They have no charging station. I make the round trip on one tank of gas in a hybrid. The round trip in an EV would require an extended charging stop somewhere along the way, instead of a bathroom stop along the way. No I don't want to turn a 3 hour one way trip into a 4 hour one way trip. The chart for EV range is not the range guaranteed after the EV is a few years old and driving in winter driving conditions while using the heater.

@peter I'm not. It's an ideal transition to real or perceived better MPG without the range anxiety. Not being the auto mechanic that my dad was, I was skeptical for a while but finally 'pulled the plug' on purchasing a Maverick. It's smaller than my previous Tacoma but getting 34-52 MPG has been great (34 was a 600+ mile highway trip). It's not a plug in - which is ideal for me and I don't get or care about a tax credit. I don't think anyone should get tax credits or subsidies - let companies and their products compete on even grounds without taxpayer money. Unfortunately this truck, like all hybrid and fully electric vehicles probably won't be something of value to pass on to my kids in the future. The battery will eventually be less effective and cost more than it's worth to replace. I agree with danmarjenka that the $ saved in fuel will be worth it in the future to me - whether the price of gas goes up or down.
People look how the electric vehicles has been improving in a few years, the gas vehicles has been in the market. Forever…now there’s a company who supplies Tesla whit a new battery technology that provides 800000 miles or 15 years of warranty and if anything happens to the battery you have a free one no matter what’s! So besides that also improving drastically on range too so come on lets the gas vehicles go slowly and don’t be a flinstone

Get this straight. My wife drives a Rav4 Prime which has a 40 mile EV range. She drives for two days before recharging at home. Sometimes I have to beg her to run the gas motor, just to keep it active. She fills the tank every 4 months, and averages 90 MPGe. Awesome if you ask me. She did get the $7,500 federal tax credit because the Li Ion battery was large enough to qualify.
Get this straight. Nickel metal hydride chemistry. Old tech, fewer recharge cycles (1,000?), more expensive & heavier than NCM / LFP. Even charging every second day, need new battery in 5 years. That tech has no chance of progressing to full BEV. Is it the reason hybrids burn more than even full ICE cars? Why is $7,500 even needed for hybrid? Likely exceeds cost of motor & tiny battery, consumer supposedly gets fuel economy savings.
Wow, Legacy hybrids are gunna die hard. Much appreciated the line "free government money is expensive, maybe too expensive". Also the idea of rapid innovation over patenting everything, which slows technology & industry, is expensive.
The idea that Tesla doesn't benefit from the elimination of EV subsidies is laughable. All the other US car companies (none of which are making EVs profitably) are going to be losing even more money on every EV they sell, or have their offerings be even more overpriced compared to Tesla, while Tesla will have the whole US EV market to themselves. Interestingly Elon did not suggest getting rid of the money Tesla gets from ICE car makers underproducing zero-emissions vehicles. If the gas subsidies are eliminated, that will lead to higher gas prices, making legacy automakers profitable ICE vehicles less salable as well. The idea that Elon is doing this government work as some kind of charity is hilarious. He is doing it in exchange for power over the policies of the government, which he will surely manipulate to his benefit and be his most profitable move yet. It is easy to win a game if you are making the rules. You don't get to be a billionaire by giving something away without getting something even more valuable in return.
Politically, EM is a dumb animal but if he will be assigned as managing government expenditure. Half of the government office will disappear since governments are a nightmare for efficiency and effectivity. You do know all the former Government Employees will not be paying tax, plus, they also won't be paying mortgages (Property crash), car and other loans, buying new products and services, etc, etc. Then there's their burden on "You" (The tax payer?) That is unless they simply "do away" with any Social service... It's going to get BAD before it gets better. What you REALLY need is Zero money in politics supplied by those with "Motives" (Unfortunately now including Elon) The Irony of George Orwell Writing "Alll animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" to describe "Communism" looms LARGE over the US system? Good luck persuading those who benefit from the "contributions" to vote the "Lobby" system out of existence.... And good luck getting a "president" to even suggest that.
As for government initiatives and incentives, it is vitally important for government to occasionally interact directly in the national economy in these ways, to encourage - for example - the transition away from fossil fuels, or to pull us out of a Great Depression, or to win WW II, or to provide Big Ticket R&D, or to go to the Moon, and so on. Elon's arguments and preferences are basic bull shit - he is in love with classical laissez faire economics (which is bad news for everyone), except that the alternative - Keynesian economics - is much better and much closer to actual reality and actually capable of providing high quality of living for everyone (which laissez faire nonsense cannot do). Not to mention that UBI is coming, which Elon knows very well, which will also mean that government will be providing pretty much everyone with a monthly paycheck forever - and that paycheck will have to be at middle class levels otherwise it won't get the job done. Bottom line, Trump was correctly described by his Wharton professor as "the dumbest student I ever met," and Elon is right there with him - focusing on the wrong priorities and about to make everything worse.

You contradict yourself, stating hybrids are simply ice vehicles with very little electric range. No one would buy them if they ran as ice vehicles all the time, because of expensive gasoline costs as you stated. People buy hybrids to lose the range anxiety, plain and simple. The only reason why plug in hybrids drive long distances on gas is because of the inconvenience to charge on long trips, plus superchargers often cost more for electricity than gas, thanks to Musk.
I believe you contradicted yourself. You said no one would buy them if they ran as ice vehicles all the time. "Fauxkahantus" - Fixedit4ya!
Most car fires are electrical whether ICE, hybrid, or EV. They are usually started by a short circuit in wiring fed by the battery.@@isettech

@TMIO Tesla Trump is dinosaur on this issue. The IRA benefits Legacy Auto (who really need it to survive), it was needed to allow EVs to be cost competitive while Legacy was making the transition to EVs (ramping design, manufacturing and distribution). This is not the Gov't paying for someone to Transition from Male to Female (or vice versa). This is to help a struggling industry make the technological leap from Gas to Electric. The IRA helps not in just a Tax Credit for EVs, but in the entire supply chain., this helps to stimulate the economy. Since the IRA EV prices have come down, not trend up, so the inflationary idea is false. The IRA wasn't about printing money ie inflation, that is just foolish thinking, it was an investment in USA Technology, Manufacturing. That idea was to help legacy Auto transition to EVs, especially since Chinese Auto makers have a huge lead on USA legacy Auto. As for the vehicles built in Mexico, lets not forget the IRA will expire and by the time Chinese Auto makers build their plants in China, that tax credit would be invalid for them or it will be gone
Yes I agree. The IRA was there to help legacy auto make EVs and build the supply chain. But then we did they pull back on EVs and push hybrids?
You contradict yourself, stating hybrids are simply ice vehicles with very little electric range. No one would buy them if they ran as ice vehicles all the time, because of expensive gasoline costs as you stated. People buy hybrids to lose the range anxiety, plain and simple. The only reason why plug in hybrids drive long distances on gas is because of the inconvenience to charge on long trips, plus superchargers often cost more for electricity than gas, thanks to Musk.
I believe you contradicted yourself. You said no one would buy them if they ran as ice vehicles all the time. And then you said that there's no range anxiety thanks to the gas engine and its more convenient to fill up.
All I said was that it's far cheaper to drive on electric rather than gas. And yes, hybrids are ice vehicles with very little electric range.
