      That's a very nice compliment but Johnny won a Grammy six months after he died in 2014 and this April his brother Edgar put out a tribute album to him with his music and other stars playing on it that won a Grammy so I would be careful with the word Prime

      @Selynn. ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw him live 20 years ago, well after what someone would consider his "prime" and he still blew me away. It was a festival in Italy, I was there to see Robert Plant, I never even heard about Johnny. That night changed everything. "Prime" is subjective.

    Johnny Winter is maybe in the top 2 or 3 Blues guitarists ever. I had an old Backlight poster of Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter as Rock super heroes in my bedroom back in 1967. Those two, along with Rory Gallagher, are my top three of all time.

    I find it amazing that now that he’s been dead for quite a while now that people are just now finding his genius with the guitar. I first saw Johnny and Edgar in 1970 when I was in high school. One concert and I was hooked. Great musicians. Johnny was a monster with the guitar and Edgar was the boss with keyboards,percussion,and saxophone. I was fortunate to see him at the Dallas House of Blues in the early 2000’s when he was quite an old man and had to be escorted on stage to a chair to play. But he still had the skills,amazing performance that brought me back to those early high school years. I still listen to Johnny and Edgar’s music today. God Bless you Johnny!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

      Sure he was fast, there's a lot of fast players...that means little to seasoned, aficionados of the blues. He was a game changer, a true maverick who paved the way for many blues rockers, with a gutsy, fast & fluid virtuosity like no other, before or since. Driven by an absolute & sincere passion for the genre, a collection of several thousands of vintage blues records, dating back it's early, 20th century, recorded origins. His original Columbia era drummer, Uncle Red Turner, testfied how he could literally play any of those songs at will. Tommy Shannon called both he and his younger brother, Edgar, geniuses.
      Here's an early example of his greatness, with Uncle Red Turner & Tommy Shannon;

    Despite Johnny Winter released his first solo album in 1969, I really started enjoying his style when I first heard Muddy Waters' album "I'm Ready" - 1978 (in fact Johnny produced this album too). After that he became one of my favorite guitar players due to his superb technique. Some of his albums (i.e. "Guitar Slinger" - 1984; "Serious Business" - 1985; "Let me In" - 1991; or "Hey, Where's your Brother?" - 1992) are truly legendary works in Blues history.
    Dear Harri, time to really discover Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) skills as well. You have already reacted to some of their musics, but in fact you've been missing the best of them. Strongly suggest you to react to "Ten Years After - I Can't Keep from Crying - 8/4/1975 - Live Winterland Official". Check also Leo Lyons skills on the bass guitar. MONSTERS!!!!

    Well ! LoL ! Johnny be good by this guy ? are you kiddin me ? That s what we hear when you say his name ! I saw that guy live in a small venue like this one ! at Le Spectrum club on Ste-Catherine St. in Montreal ! So that place is alot better than going to the forum or the Olympic stadium ! it s a club with tables and waitresses serving whatever you like to drink ! Most people drank beer ! Cowboy boots, hat and all ! that cowboy plays Guitar ! the funny part is it was unexpected ! i was just walking by the club and watching all the people getting in ! So i checked the poster of who was playing and saw it was him ! OMFG it ignited electricity in my body ! i went to see if i could bye a ticket and i did and found a nice table on the mezzanine right in the middle and it wasn t far because it s a small place ! Wow ! i ll never forget that and i really enjoy this stream tonight ! thanks !🤠

    Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughn are the two. Oddly or not Tommy Shannon, got his roots with Johhny and eventually moved on to play bass with Stevie Ray.

    I saw him in a small club, The Picklebarrel, in Vermont ca. 1990. So underrated. So not talked about as much as others. Another in this category is Roy Buchanan. Try his version of Hey Joe.
