    You realize that you don't calibrate to "match another monitor" right? What if the macbook screen isn't the one properly calibrated to display accurate colors?

  • @valanchan
    @valanchan ปีที่แล้ว +26

    @ 3:47 "I need the colors to match exactly what's on the display for my MacBook Pro since those are the exactly what people see when the content is pushed out on platforms like TH-cam or Instagram or Tick Tock..."
    No user who uses a monitor or tv will see exactly the same colours as each other or even how the designer wanted them. Just walk into your local tv/monitor store and see the difference.
    I had this issue with a national bus company that wanted me to use their corporate Pantone red for their website. Their marketing team gave me the exact Pantone colour to use in Photoshop, which I used, but, then they compared website colours on different monitors.

      This is true, but that's why calibrated reference monitors are a thing. That's the master and everyone else is wrong basically lol. For anyone who doesn't like the way something looks different on their personal monitor....sucks to suck 🤷. Get a better monitor and get it calibrated. Otherwise don't complain about color accuracy.

    1 month in with Dual Up. I have a 27" LG widescreen next to it. Every time I have to switch to teh wide screen it feels like a downgrade in productivity and enjoyment. It took me a day or two to adjust to the irregular layout but with a good window manager on Mac (I use rectangle) its just a real pleasure to use. Now I'm planningt to get a second one.

    I'm using this as my main monitor with a Mac Mini for productivity work (email, documents, slack, etc) and it's great. The vertical aspect ratio is great for this type of work and I find that having even more real estate (e.g an ultra wide) actually decreases productivity. If I really want to multi task I keep one main browser window in the top half and two smaller windows (e.g Slack, calendar etc) in the lower half. When I want to focus work, I center the main app through Rectangle (giving you some space between the browser window and the screen edges). On the side I keep an 11 inch iPad for meeting video etc. Loving this set up.

    The Dual Up has been exactly what I’ve been looking for in a 2nd monitor. My main monitor is a LG 43” 5K2K and I use the Dual Up off the the side (rotated 90 degrees so wider than tall) for web pages and MS Teams/Zoom. BTW, the Dual Up replaced a 24” monitor that I used in portrait mode.

    From my experience with my dual up, YES, next to a 32:9 or even a 21:9 ultrawide, dual up is no good. Anything next to a ultrawide is overkill. It is just too wide to be useful. Neck hurts. But when I moved my dual up to my 27 inch 16:9 monitor, it works like a charm. For dual monitors setup that involves a ultrawide, I think only vertical stacking works.

    (0:34) Yep! I didn't get one because it didn't fit in with my desk setup idea (3 monitors + a pen display), however, at another home I stay at during holidays, the bedroom I get to have is much smaller and, as such, I have a smaller desk where I can't fit an ultra-wide setup and have to instead build upward. I currently have an old LG L246WHX (24" from around 2007 or so) that is starting to show signs of failure with vertical lines on the LCD panel itself, but the display is still readable for things that aren't graphically intensive unless I run those in windows taking up part of the screen or use my tablet to watch videos. I could repair that issue, but I don't have the tools to do so.
    (1:58) Yep! I currently have an older ThinkPad from 2015 with its Ultra Dock, plugged into the HDMI and USB connections on the older LG monitor I currently have, but the USB-C functionality will be handy for when I do hopefully replace my X250 with a newer X13 Yoga.
    Edit: While the monitor's built-in USB hub would be handy, I could potentially, as a result of the desk layout, daisy chain in a Lenovo USB or Thunderbolt dock in the middle so I can plug in more USB devices under the desk! (If not, I could still attach a USB hub to one of the monitor's USB ports to connect wireless adaptors for peripherals that don't use Bluetooth or for which I had filled up the Bluetooth connection slots, but with the monitor's built-in KVM feature, I could actually just use only the wireless adaptors for the keyboard and mouse so that I can easily switch inputs, unless I had one PC on the top half and another on the bottom half.
    (2:56) Interesting. I expected the built-in speakers to sound good, but if they don't sound as good, I may end up bringing over the white Logitech Z150 speakers I currently use. There's, however, a chance that the speakers don't work correctly on macOS but could on Linux-based desktop OSes, Windows, and/or Android.
    (3:41) Similar thing with me here if I did have a Xencelabs Pen Display 16 that I dreamt of getting. Otherwise, I would calibrate colours manually based on guides online and my eyesight, as I'm currently not ready for a dedicated colour calibration device.
    That's not to mention I'd save those tuned settings as some sort of user preset and switch the preset to what I think is called "reader" mode on LG monitors, which would dim the screen for me to comfortably use Evernote and Termius with.

Does it automatically toggle between windows? reason why i asked is because i use two laptops for work. i keep on switching from one laptop to another using an external KMV switch to use only one keyboard and mouse. also have an hdmi switch because i need always a second montior when working on one laptop. so imagine having 2 switches to use ( hmdi and kmv). i was thinking if this monitor will give me the feature to use pbp mode using extended display on both laptops and having to use only one keyboard and mouse on all 4 monitors ( laptop 1 montior + LG pbp1 & laptop 2 monitor and LG pbp2).

    As a user of a 3840 x 1600 UWQHD+ Ultra Wide, I don't like that you use "Ultra Wide" for your Super Ultra Wide 32 : 9.
    Personally I think the 16 : 18 or 8:9 makes a good second monitor to a 21½ : 9 - and especially 24 : 10 - since it already is a bit taller than 21 : 9.
    But if we simplify it to 8 : 9 + 21½ : 9 it makes a 29½: 9 - which is oversimplification, but about as wide - in fact not even as wide -as 32 : 9.
    Reverse it and you have a 16 : 18 and 48 : 20 with my Ultra Wide. Yeah, the Dual Up is 37¼ % taller, but divide by two: 8 : 9 + 24 : 10 = 32 : 9 / 10. 32 : 9 ++

      @@amykpop1 @undergroundxp it doesn't have to be a trade off, the only special thing about this monitor is it's format. There are thousands of others which also provide great color accuracy and are 144hz+ AND at least half of them are much cheaper than this one. I see absolutely no reason why it doesn't have 144hz refresh rate for that price, the comfortable format doesn't justify it (at least for me for that price)
