    You need to loosen the set screw, usually Torx25, that holds the key lock cylinder (found on side of door under a little rubber circle plug ) and back out the entire lock a couple inches from the front of the door handle BEFORE you remove the door actuator. Stick the key in, turn it a little and pull it out 2-3 inches. If not, then you will ruin the door lock cylinder when taking it out. This is why he says you need "elbow grease" cause he's ripping the spring-loaded lock cylinder out of its housing within the actuator and destroying the keylock capability; its removes easily when done correctly. And you cant just hold it back up in there if you bust it apart you will have to remove the entire lock cylinder and rebuild it. If its already broken, good thing a new kit is like 8 bucks. Hope this helps and maybe will get pinned or moved up to help the most people💪💪 but otherwise EPIC video/sound quality (thumbd+subd)

    Thanks a bunch! You saved me when replacing the latch on my 2015 M4. The 4:30 point of the video showed how to get the latch free from the cable. I bought a used latch on eBay and it already had the cable attached to the latch so I thought the cable needed to be connected somewhere at the end opposite the latch & that would have been near impossible. On the M4 the window bracket does not have to be removed or loosened to remove the latch. Still breathing heavy like I won the lottery.

    For those having trouble getting the latch-actuator assembly past the regulator track: Turn the latch-actuator assembly 90 degrees -- counter-clockwise if working on the left door, clockwise for the right. Slide the assembly down (as low as you can get it) and towards the hinge side of the door. This is where the track is the most flexible. Push the track away from you and slide the latch-actuator assembly towards the hinge side of the door even more. At least on my 2006 Bangle-ized E90, this maneuver got it right out.
    And definitely see the comments and videos about the little plastic access plug and the bolt behind it (4mm Allen head) to remove and reassemble the mechanical lock cylinder and the rod that connects it to the latch-actuator assembly.

    With the key lock insert it into the door lock side first. You can rotate the actuator while it’s in there to set it in place and it’ll slide right up into position. Hopefully this helps someone in the future. Thank you for the in depth guide!

    This is great
    But the first step should be removing the key lock (on the driver door) first.
    There will be a rubber plug above the screws holding the cyldiner into the actuator. The bolt will be on a angle facing towards the outside.
    After loosening the bolt [torx 25( it shouldn't come out)] you can wiggle out the part where the key goes in.
    The light does NOT come out with it.
    The metal peace he talked about putting back in will come out in place, it is locked with a push pin and has a release. You don't need to take it off of the lock cylinder.
    Do the rest of the video as instructed, you will notice not much elbow grease is needed to remove the lock actuator.
    And install last when the actuator is in place, reinstall and tighten down the set screw and your manual key should still work just fine.

    For the door lock rod, as you position the actuator, get the rod positioned at the receiving point of the actuator before finally positioning and bolting down the actuator. It's easier than it looks, got it on the first try.

Loosen the one screw on the inside of the door, pull the lock cover off leaving the led in place and the lock and bar come out. Fit any replacement lock bar afterwards like that. :)

  • @stevel2101

    Yeah, the video was well done. I think the flexibility of that regulator brace may be determined by the particular regulator. There was no way that mine was going to give enough, even with a pry bar, to get the actuator out without breaking. I ended up having to detach the window from the regulator and then it would give enough to let the actuator out. I saw another video where the guy took the entire regulator out, but that's not necessary.

    • @BuddysDIY
      @BuddysDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My way was the easiest way for sure. There is alot of flex on that brace. I was scared to do it at first but after changing a few of them I have faith in the flexibility of that brace! Glad you got it done!

    I have a question , so my daughter kept pulling on the door latch several times , noticed that a couple days later the door stayed locked doesn’t open or close even when unlocking the door , is that the actuator issue ? Thanks

    • @BuddysDIY
      @BuddysDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you still hear the click when pressing the lock button? If you can then it's probably not the actuator.

    • @benzoh28
      @benzoh28 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuddysDIY yea I can as a matter of fact just removed the door panel with the door being locked and then unlocked it and locked it and you can still hear it , 🤔

    • @BuddysDIY
      @BuddysDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benzoh28 I'd just go thru the video and make sure all the parts align. Stick your head or a phone camera I. The door frame and press the button and see if the actuator is doing what's it's supposed to do.

    The only down side to this is the ''insulation'' It's a vapour barrier and really should be sealed properly.

    I changed my rear door lock and it works fine with the key fob. But it doesn't open from the inside now. When the passenger pulls the inside handle, the door won't open. They need to be let out from the outside. Anybody know what the problem could be?
