Käärijä made this song to underline the fact that you don't need to be drunk out of your mind just to dance and like it. He is the best example himself, he doesn't really drink but he still has a lot of fun and wears his heart in his sleeve. He also designed the staging and the whole performance himself. He has also designed the stage show to Eurovision.
He is very campy, very creative and an amazing performer. And almost nobody in Finland knew him before UMK. Now very few doesn't.

    • @LadyBeastCovers

I think the meaning of the song and the official videoclip is deeper than that.
He had problems with alcohol some years ago, and I think he has a battle with himself in that video where finally alcohol wins, that addictive part of him, represented with the blonde wig and the change in the song, more pop. In the fight, truly Käärijä takes all the hits. Truly Käärijä is the electronic-metal- rap part of the song
I think he's a genius 💚 and I hope he wins Eurovision this year.

“Cha Cha Cha” is awesome 👏🏼. The more you understand the lyrics (you can find a subtitled version) and the staging, you will see how it refers to him wanting to go out, and to not be so reserved (as many Finns are), so resorting to alcohol (the song references piña coladas) to get rid of his inhibitions and enabling him to dance.
The sudden change in the tone of the song from techno EDM to pop (it’s like going from Front 242 to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”!) two thirds of the way through the song, represents him coming out of his shell, as simultaneously the banking dancers pull away the physical barriers on the stage, which again are representative of his mental fears and feelings of unworthiness. They and their aggressive dancing and scary teeth also represent his fears about socialising.
And he manages to do all that in just three minutes! So my “douze points” are definitely going to Käärijä.

And this is why people are angry about the results. They did not get to decide by voting. And at the same time 200 "professionals" decide the Swedish act is so superior to others that it deserves 163 points more than the second one. I mean come on.. The green bolero is the first stage of transformation. He is tethered to the dancers because they are the him he wants to be .. but he is initially locked up by his own inhibitions. He is keeping himself in check. But unlocked by Piña Colada he gets up on the dancefloor. He can't dance at all but he is transformed and in the end his dancers become a caterpillar and do his version of the cha cha cha. I think butterflies (aka flutter bys) will fill the stage in Liverpool. The final transformation from green larvae to pink caterpillar to magnificent multicoloured butterflies. My theory at least.

I must add this category also >>> Suomisaundi (also known as suomisoundi, suomistyge or spugedelic trance) that is Freeform psytrance, is an alias to a psytrance style, which is produced especially in Finland, from where it is also originated from.

It was interesting to see the actual performance in Liverpool. The colours helped in the huge arena made it stand out.
The cultural element is the very Nordic experience of going out on a Friday night and needing to get blasted before dancing. Finns are very shy and emotionally reticent but after drinking often come out of their shell.

The tethers or silk bands come from the original video in which the performance was in a boxing ring so they represent those ropes.

In case y'all missed it, the song is a piss-take - about a guy wanting a beer at the bar, but anxious, while everything's about ripping the piss out of ballroom dancing -the super white teeth, super cheesy smiling etc -including his own rubber costume. The cha-cha is a ballroom dance btw. Loved the human centipede segment.
