- I take a walk through the British Museum for the first time. Located in the Bloomsbury area of London, it is home to the largest permanent collection in the world. Founded in 1753, it's celebrated for its diverse holdings, encompassing over 8 million works, spanning from ancient times to the present day. The museum's collection is incredibly diverse, featuring items from virtually every part of the world. Some of its most famous holdings include the Rosetta Stone, the Elgin Marbles (sculptures from the Parthenon in Athens), the Egyptian mummies, the Lewis Chessmen, and numerous other treasures from ancient civilizations.

Went there in 05/2019. Brings back memories.
Best favorites for me...the Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles
When you get back to New York could you visit the Metropolitan Museum. Don't think you've done museums in New York. This is so good to see.
I may have to try it sometime
Marvellous AK. Places like this can be visited again and again over the years. Great stuff.
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed the video! The British Museum is incredible!
The worlds second biggest permanent art collection is also in London -the V&A (Victoria &Albert Museum) is also stuffed full of art and statuary from around the world, about 4 million pieces, or half that of the British Museum. Finally the world's largest private art collection is the Royal Collection, kept by the royal family (1 million+ pieces) -mostly in Windsor Castle's 1,000+ rooms (the country's most lavish palace, dripping with gold, painting and intricacy), Buckingham Palace's 700 rooms (then there's the 30 other palaces and estates) and the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.
I am stunned you could show us this jaw dropping beauty and still wield a camera whilst you take this stuff in yourself!
A million "thank you"s!!
Much appreciated!
The coolest museum that i’ve ever seen , great exhibition and those artifacts looked amazing 😎Thank you for showing us this cool museum , i’m impressed 😀Thank you for sharing A K 🙂👍!!!
Much appreciated, I was extremely impressed with the amount of works on display
The Rosetta stone is one important piece of history. it was the thing that help us understand ancient Egyptian writing for the first time. That writing was translated into ancient Greek which we worked backwards from to learn Egyptian. it was a real breakthrough in understanding language.
It's such an important piece of human history
I visted the British Museum on my first time in London in 1990 loved the Asian section say artifacts from China I had not seen in other museums collection and say the Rosetta Stone at that time it was not in a case I almost missed seeing it Thanks ActioKid for the tour
You're welcome, this museum's collection is spectacular for sure!
@@ActionKid yep yep
A good few years since I was there and what a wonderful space it is. Each gallery is so well designed, as is each exhibition. You could spend weeks in there and never run out of things to see and learn. Thanks for sharing.
Action kid, you are doing a great job in London, we are both looking forward to watching your next video🙏 kind regards Kevin and Sharon 🥰🥰😘
Thanks
❤❤❤❤ Good Monday Afternoon My Friend IAM Hoping That You Are Having A Sweet Day
That Museums Looks Really Good Thank You So Much For Inviting All Of Us To Walk Along With You Much Blessings And Love Always Ms British Gray From Tampa Florida
I'm impressed, overwhelmed, and speechless after seeing only a portion of the British Museum through your lens! 😲 The building's architecture is astonishing, and I can't believe it's 270 years old! 😍 It's neat to see the numerous artifacts from different countries, and it's FREE admission. Thank you so much for sharing this immersive museum tour, AK! 🤗🏛
Kudos to the architect! Imagine having to keep that place clean and shining. I wonder how long it would take to see every exhibit. Thank you for a great tour.
My pleasure, there's so much in this museum that it will take an entire day to see!
That’s so cool the first piece you came across was the Rosetta Stone! That was a big deal I clearly remember from history class. Wow. Thanks for walking to the front side of it… got nervous there for a second that you’d move on too quickly.
Marvellous.
Its wonderful that so many nationalities can come to Britain and view their cultural artefacts, and also learn about so many others.
AK is doing a National Discovery channels on museums walk abouts, l never visited this museum, it's great place to learn the history...amazing artifacts and pictures of yesteryears on the walls reminded us of events in the past...thanks AK for sharing this walks 🚶♂️ 😀 🎉😅
Much appreciated, this museum is incredible!
Thanks AK
Great exploration inside British Museum. Tnx4d free tour around the largest permanent collection in the world. Well documented. Good job well done ActionKid.
Action Kid you have done a great service to London. They should give you an award. And you should at least be New Yorker of the week on NY1. Dont know why it hasnt happened yet.
Thanks so much for the kind words
Thank you for sharing this , I enjoy museums and the British Museum looks huge ❤❤
AK, thanks for that brief virtual tour!
Thanks AK for showing us the British Museum. We were just Airbnbing round the corner in September 2023 but did not have the time to visit it. This museum certainly has as much as the MET, which we visited three weeks later.
That was awesome - thanks for filming there.
My pleasure!
Wonderful tour of this amazing museum.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Wonderful museum. Thanks for showing.
Much appreciated!
Visiting London for my first time in about a week and a half. I'm super excited and your videos have been pretty nice to watch for preparation.
I'm curious, how long did you spend here at the British Museum in total?
The Museum of Natural History in NYC is also free; voluntary contribution. But like the LM you pay for the special exhibits. Very nice!!
Its free for NYC residents only now :(
52:00 that room is full of mummies 56:35 the Sutton Hoo Treasure 44:26 Kama Sutra 23:50 Easter Island head 8:50 3,000 year old Assyrian Lion gates 5:44 Rosetta Stone 14:36 Parthenon Marbles 4:22 Tutankhamun's bust (centre)
Awesome museum, and great video work, as always. Thanks!-

The ActionKid is a man of culture who appreciates fine art 🖼 & tea 🍵. 🐼
What a nice museum, almost like the Met. This is the first time you filmed in a museum and you did a good job with the pacing. Was hoping you could do this in NY too, but security is tighter and there's too many filming / photo rules. It was nice not seeing Security bothering you here.
very nice !
It would be nice if you hesitate at some of the statues of Egypt. Let's see them.
Fantastic video OF BM Ak. Well engaging..
AK keep up the great work I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your passion for traveling.
Thank you so much!
For London museums I suggest Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum and Natural History Museum all near each other in South Kensington. Then also the War Museum (Lambeth North tube) I never bother with he British Museum
All the above museums are free entry.
nice
What's up everyone 👍
Oh man... If only you'd continued further along. You'd have gotten to Beigel Bake 24hrs bagel shop. Londons closest thing to Katz Deli in NY.
The large, light-colored cylindrical structure under the glass roof that we encounter on entering via the main entrance occupies what was the reading room of the British Library. The reading room has moved to the library's new building at 96 Euston Road. The museum looks spiffier and more colorful than I remember it. So it's obviously being maintained very well indeed. The argument over returning ancient objects to the lands where they were found rages on. At its root, the argument is about money, since the countries of origin now believe their income from tourism would increase if the artifacts were home again. But meanwhile, we can still see them wherever they now reside.
Thanks so much for the insight!
I'm almost sure there are no financial interests involved in these claims. I see it as adjustments attempt related to the current time only. For this to happen, people need to approach it frankly. Until that, those materials are well protected were they are. I believe.
@@planetpluto430: For countries of origin, the financial considerations in having their artifacts returned involve the number of tourists that might see the artifacts at home instead of traveling to English museums.
@@keithnichols7926I don't wanna extend but seems good debate is here. Good luck.
It's sad, because it's not open to see, and it's really historic. Various people from Bram Stoker to Karl Marx (his seat was G7) used it daily to work in. Next year they may be running guided tours in there, but it's mostly used for archiving now. After all the work to save it and glaze over the court.
The Assyrian empire is my Roman empire
Hi AK. If the exhibition is free for people to enter, I saw you should have give it a closer look to your viewers in the appropriate time you spend doing so. Why not?
There didn't seem to be an security at all.
There's plenty of security, be assured of that!
@@Avgeek1564 Are they hiding in the shadows?
@@Avgeek1564 The level of video surveillance will be insane all monitored in huge security room with AI, facial recognition tech and lots of human security experts. The British like to be discreet. Thee whole of London has the most video surveillance of any city in the world. Personally I don't mind if it helps to keep us safe.
❤❤❤
🖖🖖🖖🖖
Μπράβο σου Άικ μου έδειξε τά κλεμμένα αρχαία των Ελλήνων από τους Άγγλους
And the Russians stole loads of art etc from Germany
I pretty much promised myself that I would never visit the British museum since they keep a lot of artifacts belonging to other nations (stolen ofc) against those nations wishes, who want their cultural artifacts returned. So this is a great way to see it without paying the entrance fee 😅 thanks so much for the video
Firstly, they were not stolen, and secondly, the Museum does not charge for entry.
I didn't visit that Museum but i am not regretted cause the Natural History Museum it is much better. Try it.
We keep them safe in a nice Glass Cabinet. Free for all to see their nicked stuff. SIMPLES.
To the victors go the spoils, just how it is 🔥
stolen artifacts...AGREE 100 percent. !
Honestly, places like London and New York have their size and wealth based on a system of theft called"colonialism". As people tour the city, I think few ever think "theft" is the reason for the magnificence. Crimes are seldom a topic in places that were the capital of empires. Ancient Rome could be a model of importing wealth.
The very nature of museums is a British invention, there have been millions of artefacts that I’ve been lost to history, the British museum and history in the care of Britain, Is kept and maintained, the ancient Egyptian language was decoded by Britain and revived so we can understand what it says, Britain studied and understood world history. We are a highly intelligent society. Please do not be jealous that all the best artefacts in the world Is found in the British Museum. It is not that these are the very best of everything that’s ever existed. It is just that this is all that is left.
Britains wealth came mainly from trade and the British Industrial Revolution
@@nostalgiaphile All imperial powers, starting with Greece, depended on conquest to get resources. Even the US is an imperial power. I have A HUGE amount of historical study on this. City of London exists primarily to continue British imperialism.
@@nostalgiaphile Question, why were there Opium Wars with China?
@@HaiLsKuNkYSo if the Countries these Artifacts were taken from forcefully want them back they have no right to it cause Britain decoded the Egyptian Language???
Entitlement at its best
If these ancient civilisations knew their antiquities and treasures will end up in Invaders hands they had’ve destroyed them themselves💔
It is good that there is no entrance fee, seeing everything there is stolen. I would never visit such a place of shame and theft.
So many Stolen goods
That what's make it an amazing museum
British museum. *_The Museum of Stolen and Plundered Art_*
Art and artifacts that would have been stolen or destroyed if it wasn't for the museum preserving them for the world to see.
@@garth8979 Then enshrine that into your law so that every thief can justify their loot on their ability to look after it
@@garth8979It's not your call to make If it doesn't belong to you. The mental gymnastics to justify stealing. What are you gonna justify next? Slavery?
@@spoiltchild79sour grapes. Every country in the world has stolen treasures.
More like the "Museum of Stolen Stuff". It's what the British do best.
Why would you say that lol which items were stolen ?
That's rich. The museum preserves those treasures for the world to see.
The reason most are not returned is because the greed and corruption found in their countries of origin invariably see's a lot of these artifacts quietly sold off into the hands of private collectors.
@@garth8979 absolutely, also in Islam many of these are considered idols and they would be destroyed, when they where excavated the Muslims in Egypt would want nothing to do with them.
@@garth8979So brittain is the world police now?
@@garth8979 The British Museum spends huge sums preserving and protecting these items. And it presents them all beautifully for all to see free of charge.
The most looted sh' from concouerd empires from colonial past.😮😢
The whole city is a museum. 🤣
