Fantastic theme. I never watched Ryans Hope growing up, but I always remember their opening and theme as being so hopeful and uplifting. It seemed to be a sweet little soap. Never was an ABC viewer, but I fondly remember those great days in the 80s of Love in the Afternoon. They seemed so contemporary and fresh, and that ABC announcer was so great.
Immediately took me back to my childhood. Remember watching "Ryan's Hope" on holidays and summer vacation from school. We were avid ABC viewers in our household. We lived in Chicago, thus the local ABC affiliate was owned by the network so we never worried about soaps like this one or "Loving" being yanked off the air and replaced by local or syndicated programming. It showed in Chicago at 11:30am . I remember fixing my lunch around 11:50 or so and having it ready by the time "All My Children" started. Listening to David Hartman do the promo for "Good Morning America" sent shivers up my spine, not to mention the voiceover promos for the upcoming episode of AMC and that nights prime time line up (The Fall Guy, Dynasty, Hotel). This was a Wednesday episode.
I'm from NW Indiana and WLS-TV ch 7(an ABC O&O) carried the entire ABC soap lineup and I was thankful for that. Although, they did carry Edge Of Night at 9:30am on a 1 day delay, but during the final year moved it to 3pm.
RH was easily my favorite soap because it was so grounded in reality. Then they made the mistake of focusing on a different family; they forgot the show is Ryan's Hope, not Kirkland's Hope.
RH was the last of the ABC soaps to convert their credits from an old fashioned, scrolling title card frame to computer-generated graphics. The S&H-style font is known as Advertisers' Gothic and was used on RH's logo and credits from Monday 3/19/84 through the end of the series.
I had no idea that Daniel Pilon (RIP) was on Ryan's Hope. I remember him as Carlo Marchetta on Dallas and Alan Spaulding #2 on Guiding Light. He's from Montreal who is French Canadian and Cali Timmins is from Toronto, Ontario where her Three Other Sibilings formed The Cowboy Junkies whose probably best known for their Hit Sweet Jane. I forgot she originated the role of Paulina on Another World before Judi Evans Luciano took over the role. Earl Hindman also became successful as "Wilson" on Home Improvement.
The period when 1940s MGM starlet Gloria De Haven was doing this soap opera filmed at a former warehouse in mid town Manhattan . This was harder work than the acting at the most famous , most pampered Hollywood studio .
During this time (or shortly after... at SOME point in '84), they pushed RH all the way up to 3 p.m., following GH in the Seattle/Tacoma metro area. It didn't last there for very long. It either replaced EDGE at 10:30 a.m. or was at 11:00, I can't remember, by 1985 or 86.
@KonEl1969 I had Ryan's Hope in the Ames/Des Moines, IA area off and on when I was growing up, and Loving off and on as well, Loving was pre-empted for the 11:30 news in I believe 1990, and then Loving would be on at 11 am before the 11:30 news.
This must have been shortly before ABC moved RH to the 12 noon timeslot,we got RH at noon for a time, then they took it off and put it on again for the last years of the show 87,88,89
They changed to the "Starsky and Hutch" font in March 1984 and then by that summer or fall,RH moved to the ABC TV-24 studio at 320 West 66th st after 9 years at the old ABC TV-16 studio at 433 West 53rd ave,the former Dark Shadows studio.
I could listen to this song all day. It brings back such happy memories! :)
ME TOO ITS SO BEAUTIFUL

Thats so cool. They really had time to do detailed closings back in the day.

Before he was unseen on Home Improvement, Earl Hindnman was on Ryan's Hope.
I know what you mean. I wish the soaps (shows in GENERAL) would do openings/closings like they did back in the day!

I noticed Corbin Bernsen's name in the cast closing credits here. This was 2 1/2 years before he spent 8 seasons in the courtroom on L.A. Law.
Thanks for the upload !! I had No idea Corbin berson was on Ryan Hope !
😭😭

Marisa Pavan played his mother here!
Also, it was mentioned earlier that this closing here was from 1/4/84.

Those were the days when soaps were soaps!!
Yep but there a couple of soap opera left right now... The young and the restless and the bold and the beautiful.

Right. I miss NWA!! "The DRS" was one thing, but now the "Dr. Oz show" too??? AAAARRGHH!! One is enough!!

Okay, so we can deduce this came from a Wednesday episode, fairly early in the year (before Loving took the 12:30 spot).
Nanny wanted to complain to ABC for canceling Ryan's Hope
This must be from early 1984, shortly before they changed the closing credits fonts to the ones similar to the one from "Starsky and Hutch."
I noticed Jadrien Steele at the beginning of this. He must've been despondent over something.
I Believe This Was A Video Clip Of "Ryan's Hope" Video Close From January 4, 1984.
@jmsweat u said it! this sucks!
