I have one in my yard. It's about 30' tall. Although it fruits heavily, I cant reach most of the fruit. I wish I had topped it while young to create a low spreading canopy instead. But It was planted as an ornamental. I didn't know I would like the fruit so much. The crows that fly south for the winter end up eating most of the fruit up high.
I figured it would do great in Texas as well. They are so good with such a unique flavor. I love this time year!!! Thanks for the comment and support 👍
I just ran across this video Chad... I gotta say. This video brought me back to my childhood. (Nutshell) I turned 50 this past June 7... I remember sitting on a limb and lounging when I was 11 years old eating the Loquats and it was the best feeling. My family had such a green thumb here in SWFL... They grew just about everything. I was a lucky gal. Today... I have tried to grow many things. Unsuccessful!!! I could kill a silk plant. However, I learned to pit a mango, ziplock with paper towels inside... wait for rooting and sprout. Well, I got that and planted it six years ago. Today it stands nine feet. I cut it to help the limbs sprout in 4 (each). It is beautiful but almost lost it during Hurricane Erma. I put my CNA hands to action and helped it along. I was told it took 10 years to bare fruit. I am uncertain of what the outcome will be. I was told to pour Honey around the trunk of the tree to help the process. - Still no fruit. If you know anything more within Mango's please send advice. Thank you and God Bless ya my Florida Friend!
Thanks for the comment!!! This is great to hear!! I'm happy you can reminisce on good times!! I'm glad you can get something growing. Personally, I don't have tips for mango trees, but check UF/IFAS and find the gardening section. Best information you can get!!!
I had a Loquat tree in my backyard that gave delicious fruit, but I wasn't happy about it's location. The previous owners had planted it, so there was nothing I could do about that. Well, I did do something and cut it down 2-3 years back. I removed all the smaller ones growing around it over the past 2 years or so, and now kinda regret it. I went out back after watching this video hoping I could find a few smaller trees growing, but nothing. I must of removed them earlier this year when I racked up all leaves from the oak tree. I was getting ready to go inside, but decided to look around the live oak again, since it has some brush growing around it. Inside there was 1 tree growing! I'm going to relocate it to the very backyard and hopefully have a nice beautiful tree again!
Glad thier is 1 left, it was meant to be!!! I agree having them in the right place is very important. Glad you have to put wherever you want now!!! Thanks for the comment and support 👍
Gotta agree Chad! My loquat tree did excellent last year despite the fact I didn’t even cover it during our coldest nights of freezing weather in 9B (Florida here too). It’s as big or if not bigger than my 10 year old Meyer lemon tree! Just waiting on some fruit.
My fav fruit from child hood !!! I have a small plant I am trying to grow and it’s about a foot tall but I live in the desert of california and am struggling with it
There are growing loquats in Germany that produce fruit. I planted one in west Belgium this spring, growing fast here. Hope to have fruit. I may have to do a bit of protection when fruit starts to grow.
Hello, just moved near Daytona and my house is less than a year old, they have a Loquat tree in the front, about 13 feet high, but bugs are eating and cutting off the leaves. I never see the bugs so I don’t know what’s doing it. I like that you are organic, but do you have any suggestions?
Sounds like a beautiful tree. Unfortunately not. The best thing I can recommend is you have to get them before the bugs do. They usually feed at night and birds love them too. I just eat around the ones that have holes eaten in them.
Gary Scarano, caterpillars and white fly are a big problem down here in Ft Lauderdale Florida. Try buying or making your own spray with dish detergent, tiny bit of neem oil and water. Use a hose attach sprayer to reach up the tree. Treating along the trunk also. If it's caterpillars and slugs, you can place a shallow plate of beer at base of tree, the bugs fall in and drown when they go to drink. Happy gardening.
Great question. I have never seen it grown in a pot but I'm sure with a large pot and proper pruning it can happen!!! Thanks for the comment and support 👍
@@bettercallchadd feel like I learned something + you made it interesting! Ty! Someone is sending me some loquats to try. They arriving today! Very excited!

Get a picking pole with a basket, that will help. I used a rake to pull down branches gently yesterday
My neighbor had this tree here in TX and we would eat the fruit, it’s so delicious!

I loved the comment about San Augustine grass. That was so helpful in confirming I chose the right tree for my area. Thanks
We have one of these in our front yard in SWFL. They taste great!
The absolutely do!!! My favorite!!

It's about that time of year as well for them here in Florida!! Ahh man!! Goodluck. I hope you can get it to grow to enjoy the fruits.

Ive always known them as japanese plumbs. I live in tampa i pick these every season for them.
Most people do!! That's a more common name!!
I grow these in Ocala, they are always reliable bearing fruit for me. Great video, thanks!!
Great video and informative.
Thank you!!!
We are in North FL! ST Augustine!
Same here!!
@@bettercallchadd awesome! 👏
My very good tre good loquats..
The best!!
Do the fruit flies that love to lay their eggs on loquats and guavas in south Florida not live up in north Florida?
I'm sure they do, but definitely not as much!! We have already had several freezes this winter. That keeps them at bay!!
Im in central coast California and have one of these trees by a window in my house.
Don't even have to go outside to pick one then!!!

@@mamaknows1062 great idea!!! Thanks for the comment!!!
It looks like it has some five trunks, four of which are angled. Did you grow it from seed?
Yes. A few seeds.
mine is huge with white little flowers, am I supposed to be trim it or cut it?
They are awesome!!! You can trim it once a year right after all the fruit is done!
@@bettercallchadd Ok, because I don't think anybody has ever trimmed these trees. Thanks!
I want to try to grow a papaya or maybe a mango tree!
You should grow both!!!! Haha
I'm a bad influence when it comes to producing trees. I love them.
They are good👍

How far away should I plant from the fence?
Im in central Florida and have several trees
What type of fertilizer is recommended?
does loquat self pollinated..?
Your tree is beautiful! What variety is this please?
I'm not sure what type of loquat. We grew it from seed.
@@bettercallchadd It's an amazing looking tree! I'm doing research to find the best variety for my yard in SWFL (10a).
Wow good video
This is a big compliment coming from the fruitman!!

@@fruitreviewer4748 I appreciate that!!!
I'm excited for you try them!! Such a unique flavor and so good. I'm obsessed!! Haha
How do you trim it? I bought one grew from a seed, 5 yrars, 6 feet tall, how long does it take to flowering?😊
When is the best time to plant one.?
March through November would be the best time to plant. They are very hardy.
i have 4 of these. 2 of one kind, 2 of a slightly different one
They are the best!!
What do they taste like?
You gotta try one to find out!! A bit of sour, sweet taste. Very unquie and delicious!!
What variety is this
Where can we purchase these?
I've never seen anywhere that sells the fruits.
But you can buy the trees from a nursery!!
Thanks for the comment and support 👍
When they r orange they r sweet, bit wash them, they have fuss on them.
It's probably a good idea!! I eat them right off the tree!! Lol
We have them in Louisiana but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the actual fruit on them.
Hmmm that's interesting!! Could it be a tree that just looks similar?
Thanks for the comment and support 👍
My favourite tree too
It's that time of year!!!!
In Florida they make a festival
I didn't know that!!! I'll have to check it out!!
My fav too
I have a loquat tree
They are the best!!
Hell yes I have been eating them for 60 years
I have one potted loquat at my frontyard. It grows reasonably well. Yet it neither ever flowers or bears fruit, because I live in the equator... LoL
Appricot is better sweater then loquat plums are better loquat is sour and bitter
You don't know how to pick the right loquat then!!
@bettercallchadd I'm San Diego Arizona all day how you going to tell me fool
They would be great if every single fruit didn't have worms in them
That's the extra protein!!😆😉
something I'd eating my loquot leaves!! up high
You eat the leaves? How?
They used to be great, but now they suck with all the fruit flies and maggots that get into them.
I haven't experienced that here in north Florida. Where are having this issue?
