Their management team focus, ideas, visions, are aimed to up level. Most car designers are "bad@$$" guys, but management team who are $ oriented fellows are links who decide and approve (cost, profits, etc...) production model. If we didn't have Tesla cars on the roads I can guarantee you all major car producers still will be focused on ICE cars.
Great move hiring this engineer/designer. I remember a time when Hyundai was the butt of every car joke. I’ve never wanted to own a new Hyundai as much as I do, now.
This guy has such an extremely intimate knowledge of every inch of this vehicle and its purpose that is quite impressive. Not surprising given his role, but refreshing and a great sell.
You are there on daily basis with designer groups who work on car, and every line, volume must have a solid argument before it is proceed with "accepted". His knowledge of the car is solid, it has to be, because you can't be off guard in interviews like this without answer, explanation. You learning from every designer what every shape, surface is about, purposes.
Didn't expect the guest at 15:06...that has to be a first for ANY auto vlog... AMAZING interview. At first glance, this absolutely demolishes the Tesla Model 3...it's not even close. If you can get anywhere close to 600km with ultra fast quick charge (20 to 80% charge in 18 minutes), you won't be able to print these fast enough. Might have to look into buying some Hyundai shares..
Excellent interview. I liked the designers grasp of cultural histories around the world and drawing inspiration from them. Good car. 310 est. range and charging 10 to 80 in 18 minutes. Nice.
Not bad almost matches a tesla model 3 from 2019 then. That car got over 330 miles and car&driver showed it could do 190 miles of range back in 15mins. I wonder if it'll be as safe in crash testing as teslas are. Or if it has a heat pump and battery pre conditioning as standard. 👍🏻
Hyundai has estimated 340 miles on the US website in the disclaimer. That sounds reasonable given the Euro test cycle does 380 miles. Plus all the aero changes and efficiency optimizations.
@@aoh4905 15mins gets you 170-200miles on a tesla when using a v3 and pre conditioning the pack. Car and driver proved that since late 2019. And got 187miles in 15mins on their latest plaid test earlier this year which is the least efficient tesla. Got anything else to make me laugh? 😀

Love the short front overhang combined with the large wheel diameter. Have to appreciate the designer's passionate connection with the vehicle. By the way, anybody who can integrate the ancient video game of Pong into their spiel and have it make sense is OK by me.
This man knows what he is talking about. Korean MiEum is like a sqaure letter. His father was also part of the DeLorean design team i believe from a previous interview with Top Gear.
The congratulations should be for the executives who trust and allow the designers to be brave and go crazy and signed off for production. Most companies too scared to follow it through thinking customers too scare to buy something so progressive
That was wonderful. I absolutely love the 'inside baseball' stuff for design, engineering, etc. The 'why' is as important as the 'how', also. Great interview!
We just did a studio shoot with the car. See AutoBears. What a beautiful machine it is Simon and his team have done a beautiful job. I can’t wait for the future of this brand.
I like how he wanted to keep as much of The Prophecy Concept in the car as possible, down to the color. Dark colors really work well here. He should be proud of his work. To get the production car this close to Prophecy is quite an achievement
I love this car and am seriously considering buying one when my lease runs out in July. I have three questions: 1.) All the photos and vids I've seen of the North American version (side mirrors instead of cameras) do NOT show a North American-sized license plate on the FRONT, only on the back. With the cooling louvres open, and the front-facing cameras and sensors unobstructed, is there enough room for one? How would it look / fit? 2.) I've seen contradictory specs on the HP for the RWD-only version. One source says it's 149 HP, another says 225. Which is right? 3.) For fuel economy and ride I prefer the smaller wheels, but for looks the larger wheels are better. Which wheels will be offered with the smaller version? Will there be a choice?
I thought the same at first...but Roman's style gets Simon Loasby to touch on more different points in a shorter period of time than if he asked fewer questions. But then again I'm born and raised in the New York City area where more questions might come...even faster.
I really like that they are able to make it super aerodynamic without looking like a spaceship or plastic hell. The wheel air curtains, cooler intake and sensors are very nicely hidden away. I am totally blown away by the 74 concept, but this is a very nice and maybe more realistic second place on my next car list.
Stunning interior, almost in Genesis territory, the by far nr 1 Interior maker imo. And - at last, a car brand that finally has solved a problem that everybody has failed with so far: to nicely integrate the digital side mirrors in the car. WELLDONE!
Since Roman is originally Czech, here is my comment: Romane, díky za poučné video! Když jsem viděl Ioniq 6 poprvé, tak jsem rozhodně nebyl jeho fanoušek. Rozhovor s designérem a vysvětlením mnoha detailů teď dává tvar vozu mnohem větší smysl. I Vámi zmíněná Tatra (model 77a - 1935) měla podobně radikální zadní část kvůli aerodynamice (cd=0.212), což je plně srovnatelné s Ioniqem 6. Zdravím z Kyjova!
I live in Canada and I can't resist asking the question. Consider winter driving. Especially with the limited space around the wheels, where icy snow and even ice accumulates.

Great looking vehicle. Appreciate you having the designer available to explain the Genesis (no pun intended) of the vehicle. Love the comments on the pixels and Korean alphabet!
I remember many years ago when I was a child my father told me Hyundai we're not good they were junk but for the last couple of years they really stepped up their game.
After seeing the Hyundai Ioniq 6 prototype at the Hyundai Motor Studio Senayan Park Jakarta, I believe this car will dominate the EV sedan in Indonesia, just like its predecessor Kona EV & Ioniq 5 which was produced at the Hyundai factory in Indonesia.
It reminds me of what a modern day streamlined Ford Merkur XR4ti would look like. As a European I bet that is subconsciously in his history. Look at the old car and black out the C-pillar. Even the sides of the tail lights come around to a similar point. The headlights of the old car were a pixel, the new car looks stretched by speed.
make the Prophecy concept as a real sports 2 door..I'll go for that..lol..I have a VN so that works for me..Will the purple color I6 be available in the USA? I thought I heard when the I5 came out gravity gold would not be available in the USA?
The optimal aero dynamic shape is not necessarily particularly aesthetic, but I think Hyundai found a good balance in this case and also giving the car it's own story and being able to argue for design decisions. Sometimes I get the feeling that someone in Kia and Hyundai with good relations to Samsung are tapping in to other leading automakers mobile phones capturing stuff from both camera, microphone and filesystem. Some of the stuff I see suggests it, I would say, when wearing my tinfoil hat

I think tthey pulled off the rear very hard to do. I am not a fan of electric cars think they may be viable in the future i wouldn't get one voluntarily.
