@@xirogame ever since I saw it the first time, I can tell the japanese voices are awesome. Hearing stuff in Japanese just isn't much of my like, so I preferred playing it with English voices. But I'm doing my NG+ with japanese voices and I genuinely like it that way too
Lolllll true😂😂 When I played persona 5 royal(a few years after playing the original) His boss was even worse and I was like "you motherfucker, well at least "akechi best pancake boy" is gonna kill ya for me"
Man this was probably the most painful fight in the game. Maruki isn't a bad guy. He wants everyone to be happy and live their ideal happy life. He even had the power to bring back Futaba's mother, Makoto's father and Haru's father back. And I was so happy for them which made it even more painful and difficult to reject Maruki's offer. And the fact he even accepted that his girlfriend would forget about his existence as long as she was free from the PTSD she was suffering. It was as they said, a new god of control could have risen and a world where no negative feelings is permitted would be near dystopia-like which is why Maruki had to be taken down. He's not a bad guy, but he certainly is one of my favorite villains. Royal def made the game and ending even better. And the hand to hand combat.... WOW! Also Japanese dub ftw.
The thing is, while Maruki's reality might look nice on the surface, it was also a response from his own trauma. If he could deliver people "happiness" and I use quote that word cause as we seen in the palace that is 1 way only like when he made people give up their current passion cause they were suffering for something else. At that point are you creating happiness or changing the person to fit your description of it? It was the same with Surime. Simply changing her to Kasumi might have lessened the pain but it didn't fix anything. It's probably also horrible councelling. It is why his heart is distorted and his treasure is a flame of guiding light. He sees himself as savior of all to cope with his own stuff and changes the world instead of looking at himself. Him becoming taxi driver is the end is a wonderful development cause he can actually help people by moving people to where THEY want.
@@TheAssirra this is a terribly misinformed interpretation. It is clear that Maruki gives people what they subconsciously want / need to be happy, that is why everybody in his reality is literally happy. I agree that it needs to be taken down because happiness without pain is a wholly unfulfilling and grey world, but that is absolutely not the issue here. Everybody in his world WAS happy, but they were devoid of conscious agency and pain which made it pretty meaningless

Futaba and sumire always sounded way to old in english when they're like what 15? Like damn bro why is haru one of the oldest PT sound like a 12 year old
Haru sounds just like her English voice in Japanese, though. Futaba sounds similar to her English voice if you listen to it more, but her Japanese voice is just a little higher. Sumire’s Japanese voice is much higher than her English one, though. But neither versions of the voices sound too old. It’s always weird when people say English voices in anime or game dubs sound too old for their characters when a lot of guys and girls I knew in middle school and high school in the U.S had pretty deep voices, while others had pretty high voices. Vocal range depends on the person, not their age. In Japan, more girls have more higher-pitched voices more often than not, so that ends up being reflected into its media.

Maruki’s English actor bothered me so because every moment and every dialogue, he has the same tone. A calm and kind tone. Overall, I’m saying is the English VA for Maruki did not have emotion. But his calm and kind tone always worked well when he’s casually having a conversation.
I think that's what made me like him so much. He never sounded like he wanted to make you uneasy or suffer. He was always just the good doctor. Which is why learning the kind man who only wanted everyone to be at peace harboured the Pain of Sorrow hit even harder for me.
It isn't xenophobic, a lot of people played the original Persona 5 with English dub because getting the Japanese voice in the game took time and effort. And then also a lot of people just genuinely enjoy being able to hear the dialogue and not have to read. Nothing wrong with either reason imo, even though I prefer the Japanese voice acting.
It’s not Xenophobic lol. Most people appreciate the voice acting in both dubs but some people just get a better emotional connection to the characters when they hear them in their own language
I came here to explicitly hear Maruki's JPN voice. It's not bad, it's just a generic anime villain (or general character) voice. I feel like Billy Kametz gave Maruki's ENG voice more of a "pure" vibe, which helped convince the player that Maruki was a truly good person and that he was just fighting for a different belief that didn't align with you. I have no comments on other character's voices.
How is it not bad yet generic? I've never seen somebody call something generic but not bad at the same time. English Maruki sounds more sorrowful and righteous in his beliefs to save people, Japanese Maruki sounds more dedicated to his mission of saving people and will let no one get in his way. They're both good in their own rights to me
That’s usually what happens when you get used to something since you played the dub first. Besides, you’re judging his voice solely through his “villain” arc. I’d say he gives off an extremely pure vibe during the counseling sessions.
