Eloy adds tasteful ghost notes and extra subtleties that make this drum part flow so much better, and he is overall more precise and every hit is clear and loud. The problem with a lot of metal drummers is that they don’t have any groove. But Eloy has a lot of groove and he is also very powerfull, fast and accurate ! Best metal drummer imo !
Jay's playing is much closer to Joey in terms of dynamics and strength. Eloy is a completely different animal compared to all of them. All Eloy needs now is to write crazy new Slipknot songs and he'll really be the best among them...

Regardless of skill I still very much appreciate everything Jay brings to the table. RESPECT! I as a seasoned drummer could not do half the stuff he does on the regular. Both are solid in their own way.
They are both amazing, true. But every drummer and professional musician would tell you that Eloy is from a different world in comparison to Jay. He is *a lot* better than Jay.

this is also in part because i believe that eloy records these drum cams with the yamaha ead10- which makes it sound more raw and the snare pop like crazy. I own one and I can get my snare to sound close to this. Not saying eloy isn’t a monster but if we had a drum cam with jay and that ead 10 sound I feel like there would be more different opinions.

Eloy doesn’t overplay. He does what a drummer is supposed to do. Have a solid pocket and drive the band and set the tempo. All the other amazing stuff is what sets him apart
great video. I really like both drummers, but aside from styles (every musician is going to be different..art ya know?) this helped me figure what I really like about Eloy...his tuning seems similar to the s/t album and Joey's. Love that almost piccolo snare tone and the (seemingly) tighter tom heads. Nicely cuts through a band of 9. Thanks for making and sharing.
Jay had the energy needed for Slipknot, he just didn’t know how to control it that well. Eloy is a perfect example of having discipline and control behind the kit.
the issue with jay is that he never learned to read music which significantly hinders your knowledge and creativity. eloy is creative and has his own unique style which shows up more obviously in his prog band. chops, power, speed is impressive but if you have nothing else it is easily forgettable and there is no distinction between other drummers. you can hear eloy's playing without watching and know it's him but not the same for jay.
@@Gamer_Daemon i'm aware, especially some of the gospel drummers, but there is a ceiling and that's not a hidden fact. the best drummers in the world are doing creative stuff with quintuplets, nested tuplets, and advanced modulations that just aren't possible for someone that doesn't have education. technically it is possible, there's just a significant disadvantage which is why you never see it.

Jay is a great drummer who comes close to copying Joey the right way. Eloy is a beast of a independent drummer (or better yet, a fucking animal) that can call himself Joey's equal when it comes to mastering his instrument.
Jay’s drums sound better regarding my tuning preference. Eloy has nasty ghost notes but they aren’t needed. Both are phenomenal drummers. Not sure why we must compare them.
I agree. For some reason, Eloy's drums here sound very tinny, like St Anger or El Estepario Siberiano (whose drum sound I really dislike, despite him being so good). It kind of ruins his performance for me.

Not to diss Eloy whatsoever because he's killing it, but I think this is one of those rare instances I prefer Jay's take. The parts he wrote had a perfect balance that really helped highlight the song. Eloy's take adds a bit too many flourishes that overpower the song. Edit: On second thought... After reading the lyrics more closely, yeah Eloy's flourishes there make a lot more sense and definitely add to something. The crazy fill right after Corey screams, "Reaching out for the hand of God | But did you think you'd shake your own?" really makes sense. That's a powerful line. It's almost as if something broke inside the narrator of the song and Eloy's capturing that. I think I'm just partial to Jay's because it's the first song that got me into Slipknot
I like both. Only thing I’m not fully sold on with Eloy is that he is always full throttle, I know most of you love that but Jay was softer and more complimentary. I just see them at the 02 arena and Eloy was 10/10 but I’d love to hear him sometimes less aggressive if that makes any sense.

I believe even Joey would be impressed, he was a beast of a drummer and would recognize one of his own...
Jay 🔥🔥👍eloy 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤟🤟🤟
I think any drummer can tell that it’s clear as day that Eloy outperformed Jay on this.
1. Eloy plays it at the original tempo while Jay is rushing, you can hear this a LOT live in other videos as well
2. Eloy adds tasteful ghost notes and extra subtleties that make this drum part flow so much better, and he is overall more precise and every hit is clear and loud.
No disrespect to Jay bc he is a hell of a drummer is his own right, but Eloy is on another level. He is for sure the most technical player out of all of them and hits hard af, he is doing an awesome job.
man, those ghost notes... 🤤
I cant say that, the fast tempo could be a band decision.
@@mcafalchio it wasn't. Reportedly it was one of the reasons Jay got fired, as he had time to improve and did not.
@@drumbeardoh, new information. Eloy is better timekeeper tho
@@drumbeardy’all are so goddamn stupid lol. Reportedly? It wasn’t why he got fired. The band as a whole wasn’t on a click track during the jay years. Even Jim root has said in an interview that they were all on fire and rushing live. They’re using a click now. They also don’t play at the original tempos. They’re even slower depending on the song. Eloy has admitted his weakness as a drummer is double kick.
The problem with a lot of metal drummers is that they don’t have any groove.
But Eloy has a lot of groove and he is also very powerfull, fast and accurate !
Best metal drummer imo !
Thanks for everything Jay.... What short memories some people have. Sad.
I feel like Eloy’s pocket and just general presence behind the kit are just so savage and feral
Jay's playing is much closer to Joey in terms of dynamics and strength. Eloy is a completely different animal compared to all of them. All Eloy needs now is to write crazy new Slipknot songs and he'll really be the best among them...
i've never been interested in slipknot until eloy joined. i hope he can take them in a more proggy direction.
It's going to happen
I literally can't wait to see what he cooks up with them
Joey>>>>> eloy jay
Jay used to play sometimes faster than the real song speed making Corey to sing bad.
i'm always smiling while notice comments that starts with "no disrespect to Jay, but...."
You maybe said Jay copied Joey because both has almost has the same physique.
Let us not forget that they're playing (mostly) songs written by Joey. Never forget the man himself. 🙏 🪦
This is a comparison of Unsainted which was written way after Joey left ☝️🤓
The wear and tear on Slipknot's drummers is not the drummers' fault. They are all incredibly good.
The most glaring difference here is that Jay just played as Joey played, but Eloy adds his own flair.
End of the day, any band should be fucking honoured to have either of them. Both phenomenal, just different levels of phenomenal. Big shoes to fill.
Different techniques/approaches here, but both have their fit within slipknot albeit at different times. I am happy to had seen Jay live with slipknot and will miss him. Moving forward, I look forward to hopefully seeing Eloy live along with a possible new album.
I share the same opinion
01:08 eloy hard mode
The best
Still a cool Jay written fill. At least written while he was with the band
I may respect Eloy AF, I prefer Jay, more smooth less agressive.
Regardless of skill I still very much appreciate everything Jay brings to the table. RESPECT! I as a seasoned drummer could not do half the stuff he does on the regular. Both are solid in their own way.
they are both AMAZING musicians theres no comparison needed.
Why is no comparison needed? I want to see a comparison, if you don’t, then fuck off
They are both amazing, true. But every drummer and professional musician would tell you that Eloy is from a different world in comparison to Jay. He is *a lot* better than Jay.
Eloy plays hard and heavy. Jay is a rebirth of Joey but Joey will always be the GOAT
When I watch Jay I think “you know if I practice really hard, in a few years, I bet I can almost do that”. When I watch Eloy I think “I should just quit playing drums right now”.
Joey Jordison/Slipknot songs inspired me to play drums
Jay, Eloy, or some future drummers for this band would be fine for me
imo they both sound amazing.
please keep this band alive
Jeez, Eloy’s snare is just perfection
This one’s easy…..SlipKnot has NEVER had a bad drummer. All three spectacular in their own ways.
Eloy sound and tune are better than the original jay.😂😂
this is also in part because i believe that eloy records these drum cams with the yamaha ead10- which makes it sound more raw and the snare pop like crazy. I own one and I can get my snare to sound close to this.
Not saying eloy isn’t a monster but if we had a drum cam with jay and that ead 10 sound I feel like there would be more different opinions.
@@martincorral6835 It might sound the same, but it would still be rushed and less precise. Jay is amazing, but Eloy is like a machine

@@samgeek4857 Evgeny Novikov uses trigger on his kit.
@@DrBlackwave my gosh!! So did Joey and Eloy all are using triggers. And there are videos of Evgeny Novikov drum cams with pure drum sounds only. You might wanna refer to them

Eloy is definitely using triggers specially in kicks and watch Joey 2002 london live performance videos he was using triggers and I don't have any problems with triggers as they do nothing to enhance kicks skills. Drummer wise and pattern wise Evgeny Novikov is by far a better drummer. Even Corey Taylor was interested in Evgeny, he went to meet them before their performance.
Doesn’t matter. Slipknot will never be the same without Paul or Joey! They were primary song writers for most of Slipknots best music
Are Vans the best drumming shoes?

I love Jay with all my heart and no one can play what he played I'm happy there's a powerhouse of a drummer like Eloy who can put an amazing groove to his parts
Nem humano o Eloy é, na moral... Uma máquina 🔥🔥
Yah ! Eloy is way better but Jay doesn't deserve the hate man !
Just Eloy’s footwork alone is enough to make you want to throw your kit out of a 10 story building and give up. It’s just unreal how incredible the guy is.
He's almost as good as that one handed guy!
All I gotta say is 'Grey Chapter' is a master piece.
Jay is a great drummer who comes close to copying Joey the right way. Eloy is a beast of a independent drummer (or better yet, a fucking animal) that can call himself Joey's equal when it comes to mastering his instrument.
Me as a routine classic rock drummer, they both tough and fluent on their job. Nothing to compare
@@laporteestouverteI'd say that has more to do with the recording equipment being used for the different drum cam videos.
Hitting drums very hard is rarely beneficial tone wise. Of course that may be irrelevant if you use drum triggers.

Both drummers are awesome

You can’t really compare the 2. Eloy is just on another level. He makes Unsainted sound so brutal since he plays it on the right tempo. Unlike Jay who always rushes the songs and has sloppy double bass. No wonder Slipknot fired him. Eloy got them back their groove. Sorry Jay fans. Just telling the truth.

Eloy is incomparable. Dude is on a league of his own.

Eloy hits with so much power. Even the ghost notes come across so strong. The dude is a beast.
Eloys pace is alot smoother without a doubt. Both great but I think we all know who is proving to be a better fit.
His snare hits are great but it’s like they are TOO perfect, does that make any sense? He is too accurate? Too perfect
