    As an indigenous women from Oaxaca, I would advise no. It would gentrify the community. So many indigenous people are already being “kicked out” of there community due to so many foreigners moving INTO these areas. We love foreigners but do not encourage people to live there while indigenous people are being kicked out!

      well, what you ask is not possible, if you see money , you take it. that is the real thing. this things you can't stop. I'm a Mexican and I live here. imagine the economy of this city without Tourists. Gentrification is just another imigration issue like the usa ilegal people. you don't care about what happens when you move, works either way.

      Hi Charlie! Thank you for subscribing!!
      I don’t believe there are any direct flights from Boston to Oaxaca. I flew from NYC and I had a layover in Dallas. The airport from the city center is about a 20-min drive. I took the collective bus with other people that were also going to the city center and the driver will drop you off at your address. It was only $100 MX pesos for one person. Highly recommend doing this!

    I really liked your video about Oaxaca, but please do not encourage people to come and live here, that is a serious problem for local people, since people like you who earn money in dollars obviously spend in pesos so It is cheap and comfortable for them to live in the city of Oaxaca, which is why the number of foreigners who decide to stay and live has been increasing, so the cost of living in the city increases, but for us Oaxacans who receive a salary in pesos this affects us directly and I have been displaced in recent years by you

      Gentrify what? Rich fucks destroy the world with their billions. We make Pennies compared. I’m using my money live like they do. If it takes going to a country rich people avoid and things are cheaper then so be it. We’re so conditioned to live like losers, while the elite live lives of pleasure 24/7. 100% move to Oaxaca as long as you’re nice to the community, you’re not doing any wrong.

    • @christophercobb249
      @christophercobb249 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Question, though: is it in fact the case that there is no positive benefit at all to a local community from someone visiting a place and putting money into the local economy? I understand that some aspects of expat culture are very harmful, and gentrification is damaging in many ways. However, is there truly no benefit at all to someone visiting a place and spending money there? Are the travelers actually solely responsible for the gentrification? Obviously if the person is disrespectful and harmful, that's another story. But what if they are respectful, make an effort to speak the local language, etc.?
      I guess my other question would be: are you saying everyone should just stay home and never travel, ever? Would that really help anything? I'm genuinely curious to know why you have such a negative response and you think there are no possible benefits at all.

    • @amartinmontero
      @amartinmontero 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My question is what do you mean by local economy? hotels and airbnbs are usually owned by non-locals and when they are locals, they are the local elite, further exacerbating the income inequalities. I think it is about doing research of where to stay, how workers are treated, including the choice of restaurants. @@christophercobb249
