It's the whole 'looks are deceiving' thing. A lot of us have grown up these days watching TV shows, movies or cartoons where the average looking, blend in with everyone character winds up being stronger or faster than someone who is not average and is superior in most ways. So a lot of us seeing cars that seem casual blowing up performance on the roads is ideally pleasing. At least that's my take on it. I too personally enjoy seeing the casual car smoke a suped up drag race looking vehicle or just simply putting on as if they were one. Have you seen some of the sleeper car races? Like a beat up old ford truck destroying a drag race car in a race because what's under the hood is insane on the truck? lol. Funny stuff to watch.
One thing I LOVE about current Kias is that they keep both traditional gear lever and paddle shifters at the same time. It allows the car enthusiasts like me to take control of that beautiful DCT. Sorento is like that too. I just wished for a mild hybrid to be couple with that DCT to eliminate off the line jerkiness, if any.
Just bought a 1.6 turbo gt k5. It's a fantastic vehicle. I wish I could afford the 2.5, but it was a big gap. The 1.6 is surprisingly quick for such a heavy car. Does under 8 seconds 0-60 and 16 in quarter. Gets out it's own way, which is all I care about for the wife.
Too bad they didnt give the k5 GT-line the 7- speed DCT, and kept the HP at 201 like the Forte GT, night and day difference. I ended up buying a '21 Forte GT2 because its a blast to drive...best 0-60 in 6.31 sec but usually range in the 6.4-6.55 sec, 1/4 mile in 14.59 s @ 96 mph...pretty nice for only 25k!

I have an older Honda Accord that is the coupe v6 factory 240hp and has mild work done to it with a tune and doing 350 to the wheels. It's a 6 speed and is a blast. Does low 13's.

@@M4B21S88 It's nowhere near the size of the k5. My son-in-law is 6'4 and fits comfortably in the back. No way he'd fit in the forte. We checked it before we bought the k5 as it was a hair cheaper.

@@LLANTALOBOTOMIK it was right at 101k. All covered under the recall for the engine block so I didn't have to worry about the warranty for that. Otherwise the warranty has been pretty good. Covered a few things that went wrong with zero cost to me
Why is anyone acting surprised here. The K5GT is designed to be a performer. For this money, i'd easily go with the 4-cylinder Stinger with RWD. I had the Stinger GT and it was a blast to drive but obviously more expensive. If you want this to be a fair fight, then Honda would have to build either an Accord Si or Type-R. But they don't need to because the Accord sells like crazy as it is and it would encroach on the TLX.
@@chrisjett7645 Because Kia is still in the process of validating itself, while Honda already went through that in the 80's, hence why it's a more respected brand within the masses. That being said, it doesn't imply the Honda is superior... And btw, Honda no longer builds vehicles in Japan (all their models are now built in USA, Canada, and Mexico). So if anyone claims the Honda is superior bc JAPANESE, it's not. You can definitely tell there's a lot more effort and R&D behind the Kia vs the Honda. The 2.5T in the Kia is also more modern and a tougher build vs Honda's 2.0T. The Honda is good but this particular Kia is better.
The K5 killed it here....but I'm more impressed with the GLI....dam Jetta smoked the Accord in almost every test... VW may have a better weight to power ratio

I really like the Accord 2.0t but at the end of the day is a grand touring car fast in a straight line. If you want fast with nimble handling you go GLI. LSD quick shifting DSG and a plethora of aftermarket support it's a better motorsports car.
added weight and complexity.. a cheaper option is a Limited slip differential.. that would make a big difference for the price in this main stream performance segment
If I may ask, what Map were you on with the Jb4? It appears to be map 1, if I had to guess. I actually ran against a K5 GT and Sonata N-Line when I used to work at a Hyundai/Kia dealership, and my mk7 Gti walked them without a problem, but they were very impressive, to say the least!
Am I the only one who was hoping the accord would win, with those cars usually they do, the K5 def has a more powerful pull, I've seen accords beat a stock mustang.
Throttle House did a drag between the 2.0t Accord and the new Sonata N line (Same exact engine as this K5 GT). The N Line got smashed off the line. And Barely won off a rolling start. Something doesn't make sense with your results in this video.
It’s all driver. There’s a channel of a guy and his stock 2.0 accord launching really well and leaving v8s. (Of course they catch up) SSDracer is the name, I think? Throttle house did a great job at demonstrating the car. This channel is great, but that guy is not launching it correctly.

Not a real surprise. 290HP and a DCT should be able to take the Accord 2.0T. I think it’s a tiny bit lighter too by about 150-ish lbs. Sharp car for sure but I still love my 2.0T Sport Accord.
It might win in a straight line, but on a twisty road I would take the GLI with the LSD. Several reviewers on the K5 GT complain that you can't get the power down on this car . It might have 290 hp but if you can't get it to the wheels without slipping, then it is a waste.
DOESNT need to be drag racing. Even in the canyons these both cars will Be dusted. Anyone who has sat in the car knows what an animal of a handling it has. It beat the GOLF R around the track with summer tires. It’s handling is far above than a “ Jetta” lol

Sam, can I thank you for showing the GLI can beat the 10 speed accord. The 10 speed owners were getting way out of hand thinking their cars are a Ferrari.
@@f181234 it doesn't matter if it launches better, it still loses the race once each car gets traction as clearly seen. Also the MK7 has LSD which the accord lacks, so once it's tuned the GLI will always LAUNCH better.

What he is saying right because for instance, in this video the GLI turned on it's JB4 tune and still lost to the KIA. The GLI with the JB4 tune traps a 8.4@ 87MPH on 1/8. That is low 13s, high 12s in the 1/4. Plenty of videos of it on TH-cam. It shouldn't have lost, specially when the JB4 was turned on. If you read the comments they were in AUTO mode. The GLI auto-upshifts at under 4k RPM on auto mode while the KIA does it around 6kRPM. If they would have all been in manual mode using paddle shifters then the GLI would have been able to redline to 6kRPM. Which is why everyone is saying this race is weird. Obviously if the GLI is designed to shift under 4K rpm on auto, It will lose a MASSIVE amount of torque compared to doing it manually with the paddle shifters where it allows you to go all the way to red line almost. He is speaking facts

There is plenty of MK7 videos that show much better timing with this same tune than the KIA does STOCK so something clearly was wrong and as mentioned it was them deciding to not use launch control as well as not go manual mode for maximum potential in each given cars.

I have a 2020 gli. I love it. Had a tuned 2010 wolfsburg before with stage 1+ unitronic ecu. I want to tune my new one but don't want to void the warranty. Also a little concern for wear and tear from the added boost

Look them up, they've been tested since 2018. The only difference in 2021 being a 3 (three) horsepower increase. So little, it's not even worth mentioning.

@@jacure123 the GLI is quite heavy for a compact sedan. The one used in this video is the HEAVIEST version weighing as much as an ( accord sport) which is a mid sized sedan. The GLI pulls above its weight class, but people don’t like to give it credit

Kia sounded phenomenal too. I waiting anxiously for a video like this because I really do like both the nline and this but that Throttlehouse video absolutely ruined my enthusiasm. It looks like maybe either the throttlehouse nline was either pre-production or not yet broken in or perhaps the sub-zero temperatures with a brand new car affected things. This video was more than enough convincing tbough.
Personally I'm not a Fan of the 4 cylinder Grindy sound. To balance that out, I'd have a Magnaflow™ muffler or cat-back installed to add more sound to the rear, balancing it out. I've done this on many cars & have always gotten positive results. The only thing we cannot experience from a video is NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness), pretty common with 4 cylinder mills. A personal test drive would be necessary to check that.
I’m the accord owner. Wanted to let everyone know that the first 2 races I didn’t know they were launching 😂. For the third race I installed a driver mod and brake boosted for the dig race since the accord has no launch control. Hope this clears up any confusion why the accord got walked all over badly in the first 2 dig races.

The South Koreans are really upping the game on performance. The K5 GT could benefit from AWD. I've heard that the dual clutch transmission has had some problems.

According to Joel already has a 550hp accord running 11s fully loaded. Billet aluminim block, turbo VTEC, 10speed auto we clutch 2 sets of planetary gears, 3300lbs. Stock block making 550hp reliably is insane! Just saying these accords are monsters. Hats off to the german and kdm! 👍
@@DriverJ-N its a pretty small turbo. it's a impressive platform indeed. Even the IS38 turbo that is on the GOLF R that can be switched into the GLI/GTI is relatively a small turbo. GLI got into the 11s on E30! It coulda probably done mid 11s on E85
like to see if really a 2.0 sport no badging and looks like a touring model by the wheels most likely the 1.5 engine your testing looks suspect with no visual interior vidioes of the other drivers

I really like the Accord 2.0t but at the end of the day is a grand touring car fast in a straight line. If you want fast with nimble handling you go GLI. LSD quick shifting DSG and a plethora of aftermarket support it's a better motorsports car.

The Kia K5 needs all wheel drive. It had difficulty putting the power down.

I actually ran against a K5 GT and Sonata N-Line when I used to work at a Hyundai/Kia dealership, and my mk7 Gti walked them without a problem, but they were very impressive, to say the least!

Throttle House did a drag between the 2.0t Accord and the new Sonata N line (Same exact engine as this K5 GT). The N Line got smashed off the line. And Barely won off a rolling start. Something doesn't make sense with your results in this video.

Not a real surprise. 290HP and a DCT should be able to take the Accord 2.0T. I think it’s a tiny bit lighter too by about 150-ish lbs. Sharp car for sure but I still love my 2.0T Sport Accord.
and people called me stupid when I said the GLI can take on the 10 speed. Nice from Kia too, new technology so it's competing really well.

It might win in a straight line, but on a twisty road I would take the GLI with the LSD. Several reviewers on the K5 GT complain that you can't get the power down on this car . It might have 290 hp but if you can't get it to the wheels without slipping, then it is a waste.

@@f181234 it doesn't matter if it launches better, it still loses the race once each car gets traction as clearly seen. Also the MK7 has LSD which the accord lacks, so once it's tuned the GLI will always LAUNCH better.
I call this one BS, not because I wanted the Accord to win, but because I've seen Accords 2.0 vs GLIs and Accord smoked the Jetta. Something ain't right with this test.

The K5 GT traps like 5mph higher in the 1/4 mile stock-for-stock than the GLI. So the results seemed about right.
@@bmw7891 Trapping a higher speed doesn't mean having a faster time. Their is much more factors that goes into it. What he is saying right because for instance, in this video the GLI turned on it's JB4 tune and still lost to the KIA. The GLI with the JB4 tune traps a 8.4@ 87MPH on 1/8. That is low 13s, high 12s in the 1/4. Plenty of videos of it on TH-cam. It shouldn't have lost, specially when the JB4 was turned on.
If you read the comments they were in AUTO mode. The GLI auto-upshifts at under 4k RPM on auto mode while the KIA does it around 6kRPM. If they would have all been in manual mode using paddle shifters then the GLI would have been able to redline to 6kRPM. Which is why everyone is saying this race is weird. Obviously if the GLI is designed to shift under 4K rpm on auto, It will lose a MASSIVE amount of torque compared to doing it manually with the paddle shifters where it allows you to go all the way to red line almost. He is speaking facts

There is plenty of MK7 videos that show much better timing with this same tune than the KIA does STOCK so something clearly was wrong and as mentioned it was them deciding to not use launch control as well as not go manual mode for maximum potential in each given cars.

Well let’s accept that even tho the 10 speed in the accord is brilliant the 8 speed DCT in the KIA is just superior performance wise, but the 10 speed is the overall better transmission, the KIA sure is more powerful 2.5T vs 2.0T what can I expect 🤷🏻♂️,I wish Honda have put the exact same engine from the type r in the accord with 306hp in that case it would destroy everything in the segment, but they didn’t do it because it would probably be faster than the type R, but Honda already shocked everybody when the 2.0T accord came out in 2018 and a new accord is coming next year, so let’s see 😬

I have a 2020 gli. I love it. Had a tuned 2010 wolfsburg before with stage 1+ unitronic ecu. I want to tune my new one but don't want to void the warranty. Also a little concern for wear and tear from the added boost
use jb4 it won't void warranty, when you take it to dealer just use the jb4 interface and remove the tune, that simple!

Kia sounded phenomenal too. I waiting anxiously for a video like this because I really do like both the nline and this but that Throttlehouse video absolutely ruined my enthusiasm. It looks like maybe either the throttlehouse nline was either pre-production or not yet broken in or perhaps the sub-zero temperatures with a brand new car affected things. This video was more than enough convincing tbough.

Personally I'm not a Fan of the 4 cylinder Grindy sound. To balance that out, I'd have a Magnaflow™ muffler or cat-back installed to add more sound to the rear, balancing it out. I've done this on many cars & have always gotten positive results. The only thing we cannot experience from a video is NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness), pretty common with 4 cylinder mills. A personal test drive would be necessary to check that.

Wanted to let everyone know that the first 2 races I didn’t know they were launching 😂. For the third race I installed a driver mod and brake boosted for the dig race since the accord has no launch control. Hope this clears up any confusion why the accord got walked all over badly in the first 2 dig races.

@@bradleypollack5658 exactly. The GLI ran 14.0 in the 1/4 with the video of it on TH-cam. Most accords run 14.2. The GLI is just tricky to launch, Once it launches well or on a roll it will beat it with ease.

According to Joel already has a 550hp accord running 11s fully loaded. Billet aluminim block, turbo VTEC, 10speed auto we clutch 2 sets of planetary gears, 3300lbs. Stock block making 550hp reliably is insane! Just saying these accords are monsters. Hats off to the german and kdm! 👍

@@DriverJ-N its a pretty small turbo. it's a impressive platform indeed. Even the IS38 turbo that is on the GOLF R that can be switched into the GLI/GTI is relatively a small turbo. GLI got into the 11s on E30! It coulda probably done mid 11s on E85
