As good as Battery is, I can never listen to the studio version again after hearing the S&M version of it. The live orchestra that takes over the acoustics on the intro is absolutely incredible.
Ayyy!! Finally someone who appreciates Until It Sleeps!! Personally that’s my favorite song. The lyrics are fantastic and I relate to them quite a bit, the riffs are dope and (I don’t care what anyone says) the drums during the choruses are awesome. I legit want to learn how to play the drums just so I can play this song Dude I went to see Metallica and even though I loved all the songs they played, I keep coming back to the videos I took of them playing Fuel. By far my favorite song to see live. The fucken fire that shoots from the stage after the “gimme fuel, gimme fire” is killer
Until it Sleeps legit turned me into a drummer. 25 years later and having toured the world as a pro-drummer later and I still get goosebumps every time I hear UIS.
I had a friend that shit all over the S&M album, he said it was garbage, and he wanted to piss down one of the trumpets...and then I heard it, and thought it was one of the most epic things Metallica has ever done! Which says a lot!
S&M takes Call of Ktulu above even Orion for me. The orchestra breaths a new life into an already great song, and, honestly, I think it belongs in a movie. It sounds like a killer soundtrack song. And the mounting feeling of dread throughout the first part of the song before it explodes into the madness that makes up the meat of the song is like nothing I've ever heard before.
My question would be if they had Orion in that set would that change your opinion? Because I personally think that it is a tragedy that they didn't do it for either s&m album. I agree that the s&m version of call of ktulu is fucking awesome though.
@@Remi0dd6 yeah probably. Like I said, the S&M version of Ktulu has an almost cinematic quality to it, and I have no doubt Orion would have been the same, if not even better
Yeah, The Call of Ktulu was one of my favorite songs in general but when I heard the S&M version I was fucking astonished. That shit was amazing. All of Metallicas instrumental songs are just fucking masterpieces
I really resonate with a lot of your picks here and the points you're raising about specific parts. It's nice to come across someone who gets what really underpins what makes Metallica Metallica.
Man I don't know what it is about Fuel, but I absolutely love that song and is also in my Top 10. The attitude in that song is so badass and the chorus is awesome. It's one of the best Hard Rock songs ever produced period. Btw, no Fade to Black??
I love how Mike says that you can't hear the Bass in the original For Whom the Bell Tolls when he has heard the Bass line the entire time. The main "riff" at the beginning is the Bass line. To be honest, I thought the same way! Cliff Burton was so good you couldn't tell if he was playing Guitar or Bass when you only listen rather than watch.
I LOVE the bridge riff in Creeping Death. As a child, I watched The Ten Commandments a bajillion times because it was my dad’s favorite movie. That bridge places me right in that movie. There’s something very retro-cinematic-Moses-laying-curses-on-Egypt feel to it.
When you see No Leaf Clover at top 1 you know that you're in frony of someone that knows how to appreciate art in music. Couldn't be more agree with you, though I don't know if I'd put it as number 1 cuz it's not a song entirely made by Metallica, even though it's a masterpiece (srry for my english I'm spanish)

Thank you for making this list. Some of the songs you mentioned were ones I hadn't listened to in ages and it made me look at them again. Rediscovering some of these gems is such a reminder of why I love this band so much. I discovered them when Load came out and Until it Sleeps played on the radio. It had such an impact on me that I began checking out all of their previous albums and have been a fan ever since. To this day that song holds a special place in my heart for that reason.
STOKED to see "Prince Charming" and "Where the Wild Things Are" getting some love. Sincerely surprised not to see "The Thing That Should Not Be" (S&M version) here, given that album's inclusion. That psychotic laugh near the end elevates it so much higher than the album version.
Honestly I agree with it notation wise, but sound wise I love the studio version. Plus the tuning (d standard) makes it sound much more heavier. Plus the sound from s&m sounds like more hard rock (excluding the orchestra, that sounds fucking brutal to me) but man, the tone on master of puppets is just one you can’t beat, not only for guitar but for everything.
I feel like when a youtuber is gonna do a top 10 metallica song there's someone holding a gun up to their head telling him to say a bunch overrated songs from the first 5 albums, but in reality his favorite songs are a bunch of underrated(but awsome) songs...
Im 3:57 into your video and love tir fact that you put prince charming in your video was surprised. I love that song. It is high on my list, that low mans lyric, and attitude are probably my favorites on the album. If i hate any later, I'm sorry. But there will be another comment.
All nightmare long is the fastest track in their catalog I’m convinced. It’s such a good song and I feel it’s really underrated by all the “elitists”. Up to that point that’s the closest thing to their original thrashing, and yet people still hit on it and I don’t get it.
@@emilymoses6150 the whole Death Magnetic album is underrated.... Production and mixing kinda ruined it for them, but the songs on it kick butt..... It has 10 songs, and I have only two that are foegetable in TEOTL and The Judass Kiss but even those two have some good riffs and rythm....
Love the top pick. That song is a master piece. I was kinda annoyed there wasn't a studio version of it, but as i grew older i started to understand it's perfect the way it is. Great list.
in no order my favourite metallica songs: Disposable Heroes, Orion, Call of Ktulu, Blackened, Phantom Lord, Spit out the Bone, Ride the Lightning, Wherever I may roam, My friend of misery, To Live is To die, Anesthesia/Pulling teeth, welcome home I like the other ones, but not as much
I know this video is 8-9 months old at this point, but I'm suprised no one has said that the reason you can't hear the bass in the intro riff of For Whom The Bell Tolls is because it is actually the instrument playing the "Dunn na na nuhh, nuhh na noo noouuuh" thing (I probably butchered that lol)
Always thought no one liked or "respected" No Leaf Clover... Amazing to know i am not alone...Also with For Whom the bell tolls, i too first heard the S&M version, loved it so much that went looking for the original one... and felt somehow disapointed... the S&M version makes the Ride the Lightning version feel like an 8 bit midi version lol... Also loved to see my favorite song Wherever i may roam ranked so high, and seeing Until Sleeps on the list... I would only add King Nothing to the list... Also, i enjoy more these Mike the music snob, than the others "Mike the pretend to be drunk music snob"... don't get me wrong those can be fun too... but i wouldn't watch a 33 minute video of the drunken snob... But i digress... Great video! 33 minutes of my life well spent. ROCK ON!
Okay, well, I would have NEVER predicted that number one pick. I'll have to go back and give it a listen. Nice list, in particular the love for Where the Wild Things Are. GREAT song.
I always feel awkward about talking about my favorite Metallica songs because I’m a younger dude compared to you older folks and I wasn’t born when the black album came out. So Enter Sandman wasn’t played over and over for me. I like it not in my top 10 or 20 songs but I’d probably rate it a lot higher than you guys because I’m so young.
That's really awesome wherever i may roam made your list. That was the song that got me into Metallica. Really underrated song in my opinion. You have a lot of great picks from your list as well!
I like this list. Mine would definitely be a bit different, but I can't really complain about what is subjective opinion...The fact that you included Prince Charming really makes me smile....soooo underrated... For me as simplistic as the song is, Escape has always been one that grabbed me and never let go, also I would have to include Bleeding Me, ...And Justice For All, SPIT OUT THE BONE, possibly All Nightmare Long, Disposable Heroes is a tough one to leave out as well... and I guess this video came out before S&M2, but The Unforgiven III S&M version is such a surprisingly epic rendition of that song I feel like you would want it on your present day list.
my top 10 1) One 2) Master of Puppets 3) Fade to Black 4) Orion 5) Disposable Heroes 6) For Whom the Bell Tolls 7) Ride the Lightning 8) Nothing Else Matters 9) The Unforgiven 10) The Four Horsemen
does anyone here know the story behind No Leaf Clover? it wasnt a studio album, did they just write for S&M or was it cut from some other album? would be great if someone knew the story behind it

Where the wild things are, and low mans lyric are also extremely underrated, hell I’ll go ahead and say hero of the day and until it sleeps are to.
AtheistZ agreed
Fixxxer is absolutely wonderful, but The Outlaw Torn is so boring.
Top 69 Opeth/Dream Theater songs please.

As good as Battery is, I can never listen to the studio version again after hearing the S&M version of it. The live orchestra that takes over the acoustics on the intro is absolutely incredible.
Finally someone else who can appreciate no leaf clover as I do. That outro with the singing switching to and from falsetto, oh baby.
The Unforgiven...hell, I still get chills just from you mentioning the song....so awesome!
Ayyy!! Finally someone who appreciates Until It Sleeps!! Personally that’s my favorite song. The lyrics are fantastic and I relate to them quite a bit, the riffs are dope and (I don’t care what anyone says) the drums during the choruses are awesome. I legit want to learn how to play the drums just so I can play this song
Dude I went to see Metallica and even though I loved all the songs they played, I keep coming back to the videos I took of them playing Fuel. By far my favorite song to see live. The fucken fire that shoots from the stage after the “gimme fuel, gimme fire” is killer
Yep. Until it Sleeps and The Unforgiven III are the two Metallica songs that have lyrics that I identify with the most.
Yeah I don’t listen to much Metallica besides their early stuff but I fucking love Fuel
This list helped me find some new Metallica to listen to which is great
I love how Mike says that you can't hear the Bass in the original For Whom the Bell Tolls when he has heard the Bass line the entire time. The main "riff" at the beginning is the Bass line. To be honest, I thought the same way! Cliff Burton was so good you couldn't tell if he was playing Guitar or Bass when you only listen rather than watch.
pretty sure he means the rest of the song
You might be able to tell that I am also a fan of the track 😅🍀
By far one of the best lists of Metallica tunes...so happy to see Prince Charming on the list too...its wicked fun to play and sing too..lol 🔥🔥🤘🤘

I really like how you choose to do the lesser known songs instead of the usual songs everyone puts in their top tens.
Gate keepers calling people posers while only listening to the first 4 albums
I'm 23 and I'm italian, last Thursday first Metallica concert in london (uk). One of the best days in my life
Someone make a Spotify playlist already!
I'm here
I already have, I'm back to backing every album and only putting songs I like in it. I am up to reload.
I'm surprised he talked about Suicide and Redemption and didn't talk about the James Hetfield Solo.
Yes!!! Thankyou for putting don’t tread on me on this list!! It’s so underrated and overshadowed by the other black album songs
STOKED to see "Prince Charming" and "Where the Wild Things Are" getting some love.
Sincerely surprised not to see "The Thing That Should Not Be" (S&M version) here, given that album's inclusion. That psychotic laugh near the end elevates it so much higher than the album version.
Agreed on the laugh. I liked the S&M version much more than the original.
This got me wanting jam out to some Metallica again. Thanks for the nostalgia!
Metallica was huge to my progress as a guitarist. You sang the riffs excellently! Almost good enough to copy strike.
Lol let's hope not
Mike is one of the only youtubers I can hit like on a video for before getting past a minute of any of his videos. You're too relatable, man.
I feel like when a youtuber is gonna do a top 10 metallica song there's someone holding a gun up to their head telling him to say a bunch overrated songs from the first 5 albums, but in reality his favorite songs are a bunch of underrated(but awsome) songs...
People who know about MUSIC do appreciate Load and Reload. Plain and simple.
Are you going to the S&M 2 show in SF later this year?
Since there was nearly no way you got tickets and now its just pure luck if youre able to buy one I doubt it.
Jan Solo I did get tickets for the Sep 6th show with the Chase pre sale. They are playing a second show Sep 8th for Fifth members
@@10kratz Yeah I know but the 5th member thing is a lottery
Jan Solo yeah that’s true hopefully actual fans get to attend and not all those bots for the first show
Im 3:57 into your video and love tir fact that you put prince charming in your video was surprised. I love that song. It is high on my list, that low mans lyric, and attitude are probably my favorites on the album. If i hate any later, I'm sorry. But there will be another comment.
I love your pics. Especially Of Wolf and Man! Most people forget it. We used Fuel as our racecar intro.
I personally like "All Nightmare Long ". That's about the fastest picking I ever heard from James and Kirk.
Great list.
I agree 100% with you about The Unforgiven. Definitely one of my top 5 Metallica songs, yet I rarely see people mention it, which is pretty sad.
I was the right age to hear it on the radio to the point of not really liking it anymore. took another 15+ years to like it again.
I personally prefer The Unforgiven II over the original. I'm not sure why.
@@LurchyScott I love "The Unforgiven II" as well!
I really enjoyed you talking about songs you like, i would love to see another video about your favorite songs of other bands
Wow I wasn't expecting to see St. Anger as #1... that's a bold move cotton lets see how it plays out for em
in no order my favourite metallica songs: Disposable Heroes, Orion, Call of Ktulu, Blackened, Phantom Lord, Spit out the Bone, Ride the Lightning, Wherever I may roam, My friend of misery, To Live is To die, Anesthesia/Pulling teeth, welcome home
I like the other ones, but not as much
Honestly impressed with how accurate the mouth noises for dyers were
I know this video is 8-9 months old at this point, but I'm suprised no one has said that the reason you can't hear the bass in the intro riff of For Whom The Bell Tolls is because it is actually the instrument playing the "Dunn na na nuhh, nuhh na noo noouuuh" thing (I probably butchered that lol)
...And Justice For All underrated Metallica songs
Like
And justice for all
The frayed ends of sanity
To live is to die
@@hiroyukichiba3135 Blackened, Harvester Of Sorrow, Eye Of The Beholder
ROCK ON!
when it come to the lyrics its my favorite metalica song, next to my friend of misery
@@thedisabledviking ohh i second that! Friend of misery its also amazing!
Best into ever😂
Okay, well, I would have NEVER predicted that number one pick. I'll have to go back and give it a listen. Nice list, in particular the love for Where the Wild Things Are. GREAT song.
I always feel awkward about talking about my favorite Metallica songs because I’m a younger dude compared to you older folks and I wasn’t born when the black album came out. So Enter Sandman wasn’t played over and over for me. I like it not in my top 10 or 20 songs but I’d probably rate it a lot higher than you guys because I’m so young.
How about you not caring about what other people think and just being yourself? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's really awesome wherever i may roam made your list. That was the song that got me into Metallica. Really underrated song in my opinion. You have a lot of great picks from your list as well!
You man are what I call a true Metallica fan!
