  • Rare early live performance from Talk talk on "Off the record" 1982. They perform many songs from their first new wave album "The partys over" (one of my favourite albums by them).

Drummer Lee Harris gives a show of presentation on drums. The way he plays drums is unique and special, his body from head at the feet is musical. He is a master of the drum instrument. Miss. Hug

Exactly, it's as if Lee and its drums were a same person. He embodies his music. Wonderful!

Absolutely no drummer can touch Lee Harris's performance! None of them trendy, fashion bands could touch them.

I'm so used to hearing how they sounded with that expanded live band during the 1984 and 1986 tours but hearing them stripped down to just the four of them, it's raw and awesome!

This sound never gets old to me. I think they have the best new wave synth sound. The epitome of new wave, in my opinion. Really miss them.

I agree 100! 👍👍 In fact, it's both fun & educational to share this video with someone who is used to '80s music' being filled with majestic synth pads, guitars soaked in effects, and copious amounts of delay & reverb. IMHO, far too many '80s' acts are called "New Wave", especially by embarrassingly revisionist, highly-Americanized radio stations that claim to represent this era in music (*). Instead, New Wave was THIS, as well as Berlin modular synth based music, and Ska/early Rock'n'Roll influenced songs...all of which usually featured lean arrangements with a snappy, bass-driven mix of mono synths, perhaps crisp guitars, aggressive drumming and witty/socially-relevant lyrics. e.g. music heard on early albums by The Police, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Human League, OMD, Nena, D.L Byron, The Cars, Talking Heads, Martha & the Muffins, etc., etc..
(*) the same has happened with so-called "Classic Rock" stations, which are dominated by playlists that aren't even remotely close to the mind-opening, eclectic mix we listened to in the 60s & 70s.

@@derekbaker3279 Well said. I'm going to have to check out D.L. Byron. That's a name I don't think I've heard before. I'm always interested in bands/artists from that era I didn't know about. Thanks.

@@spencergroup Thanks Spencergroup. There are around a dozen videos of D.L Byron on TH-cam. He had one album that critics liked & it sold a few copies (called "This Day & Age"). Enjoy!

Toujours la fervente admiratrice d'un électron libre...excellent même si son 4e album fut décrié, c'était sa quiétude, un rock musique de chambre, ici sur cette vidéo rare, l'énergie révoltée...des percussions de dingue et une osmose. Mark une pile électrique partie si vite....MISS HIM DEARLY TILL DEATH
