It amazes me how many people jump in and say an engine platform has no support from the aftermarket, its been many that didnt have support until people asked about them or started making/adapting other things to work. Every platform doesnt need to have every piece available for bolt on sometimes you have to jump in and do it before its seen as a viable option to sink some R&D into….somebody has to be the wrench thrower to get things started….same with me and my turbo Duratec 2.5/6R80 in my Mustang, i made the engine/trans mounts, intake and turbo manifold. Its not finished but its not an everyday boring LS/Coyote swap either but it will be fun either way
I'm really interested in seeing your Duratec build! Any links to any pictures? I drove a Countour SVT and loved that engine.
I really want to put one of these in a 67 nova.
Comp Cams made cams for the 4200 when it first came out. I remember seeing them in like 2008 listed on their website.
Perfect timing, I wanted to do this swap years ago but couldnt afford anything, now I can afford it and more options are out there
This is awesome. Ive owned my envoy for 18 years , 330k miles. Me and the wife want a more modern rwd with a 9 speed trans.
Great video! Thanks for the mention on our kits, we are also working on some bolt-on turbo manifolds to add to our current turbo header line as well. We'll have a front exit & side exit variant for various turbo placement options. If anyone has any requests or other suggestions for that product line, let us know!
No worries! Yall make some awesome stuff!
I believe the Fueltech 450 controls the VVT aswell. It does control the VVT on the LS with it.
Issue is one use falling edge other uses raising edge not compatible at the moment neither fueltech or holley have fixed the issue as of yet for the vvt on this platform
Calvin sent me
Hours of research all in this very informative video !
Awesome video with great info! Guessing/hoping we will see more and more 4200-specific aftermarket parts come out in the near future 😎 We're from Finland btw 😘
Good info! I just knew it wasnt the US haha. I plan to order a set from yall soon btw!
This video is extremely helpful I have a 3.5 and a 3.7 but plan on acquiring a few 4.2’s
Love this. I’m building a clone of your trailblazer but with a 5 speed out of the Colorado
Nice! I ❤ the out of the ordinary engine builds! Thanks for the Intel!
Big fan from Puerto Rico🇵🇷 keep up the good work!!
Pretty positive that the CD009 is just me. The other guy is using a JKxxx trans. the truck trans. Mine would be the only one with a CD009 and I worked with fabbot on that. :) TY (Project G42T)
My car is the Atlas Motor Mounts pic as well. And they are amazing!
Oh well dang. Sorry to mess that up! Its a sick setup
@@J-Whit No Worries bud :)
What year is the best to get and modify of the 4200's?
@@ianconley6673 google 4200 wiki. enjoy.
I wish I had the means to build my 05 TB EXT. One day 🥲
It’s the money for me. Everything is so new, prices haven’t gotten to where I can afford it.
It is pricey. But there are low budget options for sure for diy folks
The good thing is, bone stock junkyard engines can hold huge power. We have guys in the facebook group who are making 600HP with under 1000 invested including buying the engine and swap parts. If you can DIY fab, these engines are dirt cheap to use.
@@Atlas-IndustriesI could use some help doing a 3.7 swap into an 04 Colorado the 3.7 has no return on the fuel rail but the 3.5 does. I don’t have the wiring harness or computer for the 3.7. I want to do arp studs and bolts any other suggestions?
I have that shifter. It's super slick. With a little fab work on the handle a hurst handle will bolt to the stem
Good job. Tons of great info wish I could afford to do it to my trailblazer.
Exciting stuff, can't wait for my new job to come through. Great video
Thank you for this video brotha. We’ve been needing this for a long time
Great video! Gives me some ideas to help the LZ4/LZ9 and the other 60°v6's get more support.
Great information brother!!! Thank you!!!!
Great information 👍🏼
Sadly Schneider doesn't react to emails asking them to send sth overseas...we would like to get a set for our build in Germany
That is unfortunate
if you want. have them shipped to me and ill ship them out to you. i don't mind helping out.
Perfect video for what i wanted to know
We should try to make group buy .. usually if we are exemple 50 people to order something together the manufacturer can make them even cheaper.. this could apply well to this engine as im sure lot of people are building 4200 right now but are scattered all over the place.
I have a tbs but know i know its popping off had my father pass me down his about 4-6 years ago and i new it was potential. Would always try to see if there was anything out there for them but was not out there yet
1700 dollars for exhaust header is absolutely ridiculous cost though. I know that it takes work to build them but it’s just extremely expensive.
I agree it is pricey. But its a cast stainless part which is a much higher quality than most turbo manifolds are. But you could make your own using the stock manifold for much cheaper. Many people have.
Yeah I couldn't believe the price either.
@@J-Whit oh definitely and that’s what I would do because I have the skills to do it but many people don’t. Hell let’s be honest nowadays most don’t.
You might as well get one fabricated for that much.
Im thinking about putting one in my suburban with a small turbo
This is awesome! I do want some NA power in my 07. So right now just custom air intake. So intake, exhaust, cams?
Who does the motor mounts? Atlas industry don't have them on their website.
They are still in development but they will have them soon.
@J-Whit thank you love the videos
I'm fighting with the P10(mostly the learning curve),struggle with finding good tuning info on them :(
Atlas industries could help. As well as the 4200 wiki page linked in the description.
What Intercoolers do you have for the turbo?
I dont have one for the 240 yet. But the trailblazer i run an air to water. I used a 6.7 ford diesel air to water intercooler and a generic heat exchanger in the trailblazer. I also have a tesla coolant pump and a 5 gallon ice tank in the trunk.
What was the build sheet for the 500hp range that’s something I’d like to achieve.
Its all in the videos on the trailblazer playlist.
Do you think it would be possible to bolt a solstice gxp/sky redline transmission to it? It’s rwd and is also an AR5.
Check out the 4200 wiki. Im pretty sure I remember reading on there, while yes its an ar5, something about it didnt work. I dont remember exactly what tho.
Engine. I almost couldn’t make it through the video.😮💨
What year of the 4200 is the best to modify for just a stronger general build? Not necessarily a racing engine...although i'd love to i just dont make enough money for that whole mod build. I would say upgrade up 1 stage mabe...im still kinda new to upgrading engines. And also correction kits/ rebuild kits to trans they mate to. Or would i be better off using a different tranny?
Sort of a loaded question. If you go to the 4200 wiki page linked in the description there is tons of info there.
Short version is the older (02-05) bottom ends are "considered" stronger because if the crank. And the later (06-09) cylinder heads have an improved set of cams and flow characteristics. There are benefits of both and downsides. The wiki page will answer all your questions.
@J-Whit thanks for that brother, I heard the 06 and later reduced the lifter seat issues because of wider vallies for the oil to go through. I'd rather push towards that because I'm not trying to make mine a racecar, just stronger than it comes for more reliability than racing. Mabe later on ill upgrade for another reason but for now, I cant. Again thank you for the info 🤝
@@ianconley6673 get a 06-07. way more plentiful than the 08-09s. and the P12 uses MAF and MAP. so it is tunable just not as much as the E67.
@@wil8115 just got a 06 extended with 157k.
Watching the HRG episode about this engine has me concerned about the head bolts. Can you replace them with aftermarket and not have to deal with the gnarly TTY bolts that you have to smack?
Yes. In the video i mention arp has bolts that work. I think i showed a photo of them as well. Just need to run a spacer with them. All that info is on the 4200 wiki. That link is also in the description.
@@J-Whit thanks man I commented half way through that’s my bad. Is the technique to get the original bolts out doing the smack and wind technique?
@@Seyeler 10mm hex impact. smack with rivet guns a few blasts, they come right out. or use a few lb sledge a few good wacks. once the head is off the broken off parts usually come out easy, if it breaks off. 79-03 LS head studs works, just need a spacer under the nuts.
Camshafts are the place where the 4200 gets the shaft. There is stock and wild. We conveniently skip the towing and more street worthy grinds.
The smallest aftermarket grind needs a stall converter...
Seriously?
Please prove me wrong.
What trans are you using in the s chassis
The ar5 from a Colorado
I'd rather do an Atlas 5 cylinder.
Those are also sweet. They share like 70% of the same parts as the 4.2 so a lot of the same parts here apply.
Oil pan is #1 issue and emtechs isnt all that great and overpriced.
Ive had nothing but good experiences with emtech. The oil pan is an issue whoch sucks. But the front sump isnt terrible when you use an accumulator/accusump.
Did i here that right i could make my trailblazer a 5 speed manual at 9:42 oh my lord life is changing for the trailblazer
Yes. The ar5 will bolt up to the motor. Im not sure what else would be required on the trailblazer chassis. But engine fitment is there.
