    I should've dialed into this, good stuff! A nitpick is I would've liked to hear more about shell sizes, as a small framed guy I know your first two picks (Bell Qualifier and Icon Airflite) have relatively large shells for their quoted sizes, and so the bobble head effect makes those a non-starter for me.

    Glad you guys mentioned noise level and how dependent it is on individual riding, bike, position, body height and so much more. On every helmet that seems like it'll be a good one when you read reviews someone invariably says "Quietest helmet I've ever worn!" while someone else will comment "OMG this hast to be the noisiest helmet EVAR!".
    Also you guys should do a vid for those of us with HUGE melons. The Bell and HJC companies seem to be the only ones addressing this segment of the market. I tried on some Shoei's like the x-15 and the Neotech 2 and their largest sizes are still a BIT too tight for my dome. One more larger shell and a few larger sizes and Shoei would likely dominate this segment of the market.

    Welcome to Revzilla after dark I'm Spurge Manchu! Does the Bell still come in the black with white racing stripes livery? I have the Icon Airflite El Centro looks amazing, great fit, but it's a bit noisy even with earplugs. My other complaint the gold face shield isn't gold it's more of a bronze color. Why get the Scorpion wanna be Stig helmet when you can get an actual Stig helmet by Simpson for $290 at Revzilla? The foam earplugs I've always found to be meh. I've been using Decibullz for the last year now and they are far an away better than any of the foam counterparts I've had in the past. Seriously, why are all helmets not coming standard with pin locks at this point? Love the Zilla, you keep making em, we'll keep watching em!

    I've used a transition shield on my Shoei RF1200 for years, and I'm very happy with its quick-transition (dark-to-clear) performance.... It's especially nice for riding out of a bright sunlight situation into a dark, shady forrest. Or it's nice at eventide when you just can't stop and change face shields. One caveat with the transition shield is: they last a lot longer if you keep them out of hot storage situations. Therefore, I carry my helmet around with me in a nice carrying bag - Rather than leave it locked on the bike, baking in the sun.

    Im looking at the Icon Airflite helmets, and I noticed there are some models that are rated ECE 22.06, and some are ECE 22.05 but with MIPS. Which one would u recommend? I've been using the AGV K3 SV (Balloon graphic), and I like the helmet a lot. Snug, many shell sizes and def love the graphics available. At the time it blew me away and fits so many color bikes, as I've switched since. Though, pretty soon I'll be upgrading to a new helmet due to age. I def think $300(to $450) is a sweet spot for price, as I don't want to go cheaper. You get what you pay for most times in helmets, with diminishing returns of course. The coolest graphics is important for me also, willing to pay extra for that. Still undecided to be honest...

    Which of these helmets work best for riding cruisers?

    Cruiser bikes lean more back.

      I ride a cruiser (sportster 1200 custom) with forward controls, and I have the Sedici Strada II. I love the helmet, and haven’t had any issues with wearing it. It’s comfortable, quiet, and flows air good IMO. I’m probably going to get the Strada3, but I think I’ll wait until the gloss carbon fiber model comes out. It’s probably going to be a hair over $400 bucks, but it’s a looker to me.The Animal graphic that Spurge had looked pretty sick also, so I’ll have to try and pick between the 2. I’m also going to try on a Arai. I know it’s 3 times the price, but it’s one of the best helmets on the market and price isn’t an issue when it comes to being safe.

      @RevZilla  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Are you wearing ear plugs? Wind noise typically has the same, if not more to do with: the aero of your bike, your riding position, head angle, torso length, arm length etc - which is why most brands on the market don't aim for noise-levels with their helmets. There are just too many variable to factor in that they can't take into account. However, $5 at your local pharmacy will get you a box of ear plugs that will not only reduce the wind noise, but save your ears from serious long term damage. Hopefully that helps!

    For a modular helmet with DOT *AND* ECE you're basically either S.O.L., paying an exorbitant amount, or buying a Schuberth _in Germany_ and then coming back to the U.S. and taking an old helmet you might be replacing and put it's DOT sticker onto the Schuberth. ... so, still exorbitant cost.
    Scorpion EXO has a modular _dual-sport_ helmet of all things, AND in yellow AND not anti-Cardo helmet design AND *_at_* the $300 price point, but is $380 if you plan to buy the Pinlock Shield and Pinlock.
    All in all, $300 for a helmet 👍, even having to piece-meal the Pinlock Visor *&* Pinlock isn't too horrendous.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We actually discuss in the video how noise levels are not something that can be broadly used as recommendation since it has more to do with the aerodynamics of your bike and the rider's dimensions more than anything to do with the helmet. Ear plugs are your best friend to make whatever helmet you want, the quietest. As for airflow, the most ventilated full face helmet is any helmet with the faceshield open and sunglasses / protective glasses underneath. So if airflow is your concern at lower / city / traffic speeds - that's the easiest solution in the industry.

    • @Loelia_Ponsonby
      @Loelia_Ponsonby 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RevZillaRespectfully, this feels like a cop-out. A 2011 University of Bath study found that a thick, well-fitted neck roll and the presence of a chin curtain/blocker mattered the most for blocking out noise. The seal of the visor as well.
      Earplugs are crucial. But a helmet with a 5 db difference in wind noise can be the difference between your 29 NRR foam earplugs being sufficient to protect your hearing on a 1-hour ride or not.
      Likewise for airflow, vents - their location (eyebrow, chin, top of head), quality and material of the mechanisms - and well-designed EPS channels to direct the flow over the head make a big difference. Detents to have the visor cracked at low speeds would be a safer option than riding with it open.
      These can be mentioned along with the caveats for personal fit of the helmet (probably #1 factor) as well as the particulars of your bike.

    • @patrickmchugh8039
      @patrickmchugh8039 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wear bulky sunglasses with the Strada 2 and Strada 3 all the time, so does Spurgeon. I think its important to remember that everyone's facial contours are different, so your experience might not be the same as mine and vice versa. Most modern helmets can take prescription glasses nowadays, although only a few brands bother to put it in their marketing material for that very same reason. Even the brands that say it can take em, might not for everybody's unique face / glasses etc. If you are really that hell-bent on wearing glasses instead of contacts while riding, I'd recommend looking at a brand like Flying Eyes Optics. They make prescription glasses w/ flexible arms specifically for moto. Spend the money on those and pick the helmet you want based on safety, not comfort with glasses. At least for me personally, I'd rather have a helmet that will protect me in an accident than the ultimate comfort with glasses.

I'd hoped that problem would get corrected on new models. My Simpson, AGV nor Shoei's have this issue.
      Not everyone has the option of wearing bifocals as on my case it would be dangerous to wear them where I work so I'm not bothering to wear them part time.

      @@theoldmanflynchmotovlog4846 Oh for sure, and again - I think that goes back to the issue that it really depends on your unique facial structures and how that fits with the cheekpads / ear cutaways.. Because when you consider the 10's of thousands of Strada 2's that were sold and the few comments mentioning discomfort with glasses vs all the ones that didn't have issues or need to leave a comment, I'd imagine there are just as many people out there doing fine with them (like in Spurgeon and I's testing and experience). But hey, maybe those moto-specific glasses might be a good option for you if they make the bifocals you're after. I was just pointing out in the OC that not everyone was experiencing the same specific issue as you had made it seem like everyone was dealing with. (IE "Anyone who has owned a Strada2 knows you can't wear glasses with them.")
