  • amzn.to/40WebcZ The Bahco 808050S 18-Piece Stubby Ratcheting Screwdriver Set is serious contender for one of the best ratcheting stubby with exchangeable shaft. Options are length, quarter-square, flexibility, and compatibility with other brand platforms. This full kit is half the price of the Snap On and PB Swiss ratcheting stubby.

    Cal-van makes one using Bahco style where you can remove the bit holder and also has a kit set where it comes with other extensions for you to attach. The difference is that the handle is long like the Stahlwille, but you are able to switch to pistol grip and it also an led light. OEM tools actually makes a pistol grip too without the light or removable bit holder very much like the Bahco, but it has a Stahlwille finish rather than the Bahco finish. I am safe to say that they are all manufactured in Taiwan with better QC.

      I like Bahco in general, and have many Bahco tools, but I did get a 16" T-square which I had to get a refund on, because it just wasn't square. Bahco is owned by Snap-On these days, I believe.

      @matui6983 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Snap-on does own Bahco.
      And I dint believe Snap-on would buy a tool company that produces inferior tools. Altho I still like the original Snap-on adjustable spanners lookswise compared to the Bahco.

      @@matui6983 Bahco claims to have invented the adjustable spanner, and they were around way before Snap-On - though I'm not saying anything about the looks, I have loads of Bahco adjustables and no Snap-Ons, just one little Blue-Point.

    The Bahco and Stahlwille ratcheting screwdrivers are essentially identical mechanisms - the only differences are the handle surfaces and whether the shaft is removeable or not. The ratchets are made by Reverse Gear, and usually have that name stamped into the front. The same screwdrivers are available branded by a number of different companies. I have examples from Britool and Sealey - the Sealey is absolutely identical to the Stahlwille, except the Stahlwille's green bits are red on the Sealey. Whatever the brand name, these are good solid tools.

      @@htr5372 I bow to your greater expertise! I only know about the ones I have seen and handled, and they are all extremely similar. Expert by Facom is what used to be called Britool, which was taken over and turned into Facom's budget brand - a sorry demise for a great British company which used to rival Snap-On. The Britool version of this stubby ratchet that I own is now available branded as Expert.

    I’ve got the 808050S-22 set which has more bits but no sockets & am really impressed by it, especially as it was GBP £21.99 delivered from Amazon UK. It differs from the Bahco T-handle driver as that directly takes hex bits and/or extensions & you can’t match the grip or torque you can apply with the T shaped handle but I’m enjoying discovering Bahco tools & everything so far has been great quality.

    Nice set, I have one but with more bits and no sockets, but the case and the driver are the same. I think stahlwille and bahco and many other brands are manufactured in the factory, only the materials and designs are different. Actually I have the bahco ratcheting screwdriver that is almost identical to your stahlwille, even the bit storage is the same. And one with incorporated led light is also available. But overall the quality is very good and I use this little stubby a lot. 👍👍

      I have purchased the same EU set with more bits and no sockets type. It was chosen because of the inspiration of Doc's videos about the interchangeability with Snap-on and Sata/Gearwrench. Because of the pricerange and no Snap-on availability here, it was a good option to choose the Sata long set and this Bahco stubby to substitute the Snap-on stubby at a much lower cost. This review is little late now, have to had the research way before, if it fits the Snap-on square platform. Fortunately, yes. I am wondering if the fixed types such as Stahlwille, the shaft could be removed as the older type Snap-on ratcheting handles with removing the direction switch and removing 1 circlip. The original hard handle ones have the same square socket to fit in the interchangeable shafts. Doc may help to approve if it is possible.

    i wish those geawrench n snap-on n whatevs ones could also accept the hex shanks as well, cuz yeah i like those lil stubby ones, smooth
    n have u tried any of the facom ones? basically the same as the stahville, both stubby n the reg ones,....got a real nice
    n as far as the cases like that one, i love the wera kk 60 i think? holds like 40 bits and a f ew drill bits and hex n whatnot , but any of their soft cases are top tier lol.
    i wanna get the hazet 1/4DR bit driver case that thing looks gnarly

    Just wondering if anyone out there has any tips on disassembling the Reverse Gear ratchet mechanism, as seen on the Bahco and Stahlwille screwdrivers in this video? There's a slot and what looks like a snap ring or retaining ring of some sort underneath, but I just can't get hold of it to open up the casing and access the ratchet mechanism. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    When or why would you use a stubby driver with any extension? Seems like it defeats the only advantage of a stubby driver which is to fit into tight spaces. If you have room for an extension why not just use a standard sized driver?

    • @lastbesttool
      @lastbesttool  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great question. I find I grab the stubby, usually the snap on, for furnace and appliance work. It’s lighter and less moving mass which adds some precision and less chance of dropping it when using just a couple fingers to hold and turn the driver. And yes, clearance too. I have a Snap On ratcheting T-handle wit a fixed long shaft that I got from an aircraft mechanic. They used it for much the same reasons I mentioned.

    Smaller, more teeth and less backdrag than the PB swiss. However more rotational slop in locked position and shaft side to side wobble. Honestly I feel the PB swiss ratchets are overrated considering the horrendous backdrag and price.
