Your 2020 YP is miles behind the 2023/2024 Y models in many ways. Door close quality, overall build, suspension damping (certainly on the YP), quietness. You name it. But I know this refreshed Y has all-new dampers that really really work awesome.
I ordered a SR in Ultra Red with white interior on January 11 and it got pushed back 9 times so far💀 I sold my Lexus to buy this car. If it keeps getting delayed, I might opt for the black interior like so many others have with their white interior delays but really want the white interior as it's my first Tesla.
Model Y would be the better choice for families if you’re willing to wait another year for the refresh. Curious to see what the 8/8 announcement is. Tesla needs a full sized SUV.
Model S is the same problem with the turn signals. Should have been haptic. I glued a tiny bit of black plastic on the left turn signal (lower one) so I could find it without looking.
@@malax4013 I suppose its all in how one drives. I use my left hand in the 9 o'clock position. My thumb becomes quite close to the turn signals and the little bump tells me I'm on the lower one. Just me. I kind of liked the stalks.

I drove my old M3 yesterday (after a long absence) and found all the controls so much more natural. It's a better driving experience - end of story.
In my new model 3 I have yet to have a problem with it. Idk if the model s has the line in between right and left signal but the model 3 does and if you feel for the line before you make the turn it’s very easy
I have an October 2023 Model S and I have started to get used to the turn signal buttons. Getting "used to" and "liking" are 2 very different things! The hooter button is a far more serious "defect".
Very nice car, but I get from Chicago to NYC in about 14hrs with 3 kids with all the stops included in my 2011 Prius with 175K miles on it. So it would be downgrade for me from Prius, but I definitely want it to drive it around neighborhood and and go grocery shopping/ taking kids to zoo
You can honestly find used Tesla for well below 30k and sometimes even below 25k without that much mileage on them. I suggest looking through used inventories.
I'll trade in my 2018 Model 3 on one as soon as Tesla allows me to transfer my FSD. I ain't buying it twice, given I got very little utility pre ver12.
6:26 clarification: the topic is about grade not quality. Grade is about the luxuriousness of the seats, the comfort of the AC and the fidelity of the sound system. Quality is about the number of seats that tear per 10,000 cars the public buys. If Tesla made 10,000 cars with plastic seats but only 9998 crack, that is high quality. But plastic seats are a lower grade than leather seats.
Well you're underselling it a bit, that cat there beats all (?) BMWs and some Porsche's in the "moose test" and some slalom stuff. It's a handling monster compared to the Audi A4 etc. And the Ludicrous will beat it all
Do you realise how much structural change that would require? Basically a different car, and heavier to mount the hatch... Plus a cross member at the hinge point which would encroach on rear headspace.... Which would require a higher roofline..... Which would make it a.... ? . . . . Model Y. . Duh?
I disagree. Hatchbacks are noisier and are not as stiff. A proper sedan should be sedan, not a hatchback. If you want a hatchback, buy the Model Y (it's even cheaper with the Federal Tax Credit).
this is likely what the Model 2 or whatever they call it will be, and sort of what the slightly more expensive model Y is, so there was no reason to also make the model 3 a hatchback.
I am writing from the UK, where there are far more hatchbacks on the roads here and in Europe, large, small and medium, it's not hard to make them, whatever size or shape. They are so much better to own, we don't usually have alternative vehicles for that occasional bulky load. Yes, we could buy the Y, but that is now looking dated and is more expensive. So, I'm waiting for a nice looking next gen hatchback! Tesla, please make it appealing to own.
The upcoming 25k car will quickly become the best starter car. Hope they make a RWD performance variant for easier city driving and parking. Don't even need it to have more than 200 miles of range to be honest.
"starter car" is a misnomer. Only 17% of purchases are for new cars. Typically, a first car is used. My revivifiers bought their Mercedes-Benz used to save depreciation dollars...
I agree with your assessment of the new "3" 100 except for the comment about the Corolla. The refreshed single rotor "3" and say an "entry-level" 3 series BMW are not that far apart in terms of quality, IMI. In fact when you take into account all of what Tesla offers as standard equipment, the new "3" is a comparative bargain, and you don't need $850 HK stereo upgrade. I just had a water pump replaced on a 24 BMW 440i xdrive to the tune of $,1700. The car only had 15k miles on it! It was covered under warranty, but if anything in the drivetrain goes south after the warranty period, it's not going to be an inexpensive car to maintain. Tesla wins!. I don't buy into the nonstop hype about Tesla futures and never will, but what is available now, when you buy the car, and not "in the future" is pretty compelling. After owning BMWs for 30 years it's time to turn the page. If Tesla would finally get FSD to actual self-driving and get "approved" by the Feds, that rotoTesla thing might actually be more appealing than it currently is. I know it's close, not it's not close enough
I was considering the refreshed M3 but it doesn't have the IRA tax break. I expect to get it within a year. If it does it will reduce the value of the M3. I'll probably wait for the refreshed MY.
I personally decided to pull the trigger on it regardless of the tax break. It is just too good of a car, and my lease is ending soon on my 2021 Acura.
I get from Chicago to NYC in about 14hrs with 3kids and all the stops included in 2011 Prius with over 150K miles on odometer, it’s a nice appliance if you stay within your town
I wanted an "S, but ; right now that was just a bit out of reach. The New Model "3" is really a great car. I test-drove it and thought it was pretty darn nice. I can only support 1 car; so it'sa a 3 or the "Y. The "Y" wins as a car that would be fun to drive, but also can actually carry a fair amount of "stuff". If the new 3 had a hatch, I'd buy a 3 hands down. The rear wheel hp is "only" in the 200s. The dual rotor has about 400 and the damn thing is a blast to drive. I'm about 6" and with the driver's seat in the position I like, the rear seats can't be folded flat without, moving the front seat(3) forward to accommodate the rear seats being lowered. ( I need to carry "stuff" alot) In a cost-cutting measure, I'm sure, the head rests on the rear seats are not detachable. The trunk is decent size, but it can be a chore getting "stuff" in and out of it. Without the $7,500 rebate, which I didn't find out I was ineligible for, until Tesla snagged a $250 not refundable deposit. the Refreshed "3" dual rotor and the 24 Y dual rotor area about the same price.

This new model 3 is the next iteration following the learnings from Model Y. Still has a steering wheel and pedals but slowly getting rid of usual human ergonomics. Here is a question: why can't the model 3 become the new £25k car? I'm certain it can be done in line with battery costs decline and higher energy densities.

I love Tesla's, never owned one though. I'm super hesitant to just buy one online, without even doing a test drive. The closest Tesla "dealership" is 200 miles away. Also they don't have enough service centers, again, the closest is 200 miles away. If it breaks, I would have to get it hauled 200 miles...that is crazy. Tesla needs to re-evaluate their map of the US, and make it a priority to have a service center in every decent sized city (mine is 200k people).
Man, I live in rural Nova Scotia and don't have to go 200 miles to a Tesla store. We got plenty of Superchargers too. And free Tesla chargers on the main street in our town (pop. 550).
@@murc111 idk it depends on what needs to be fixed and if it can be done on the go, I'd imagine they would if they could, but I'm not an owner (yet!) But that's what I've gathered from watching countless owners videos over the years
Is there a reason why you need a Model Y? Is the storage space really that much more valuable compared to a Model 3, especially when you can fold the rear seats 60/40?
I can understand his issue a bit. The benefit of the Y is the rear space for a car seat and the added height for not only cargo but rear passengers as well. The Model 3 can definitely fit a lot, but when you have a car seat in the mix that can easily be cut down a ton, since you can no longer fold down that seat. And as I mentioned, the Model 3 also struggles with taller cargo.
Tested Highland twice and the vehicle was lovely but the turn signal buttons are really bad. Also Tesla is in this bad spot where they only have tax credit on the model that everyone is waiting for a refresh on. Makes the refreshed Model 3 artificially look like a terrible value.
I just got the "twin" to that 2 days ago! (Ultra Red / RWD ) - my first Tesla, and it's amazing! One BIG disappointment... Bought FSD, with dreams of 12.3.3 - but it seems FSD is not released for this model yet. Hopefully soon! I'd love to hear if anyone else has FSD on the M3 (refreshed)?

Farzad! Pleased to meet you I just read your about, and I realized you and I are from the same area… well relatively, I am a retired defense engineer I used to work in Easton and Bethlehem Pa, I lived in Levittown Pa at the time . Small world
Your 2020 YP is miles behind the 2023/2024 Y models in many ways.
That's a perfect ev❤❤
Model Y would be the better choice for families if you’re willing to wait another year for the refresh. Curious to see what the 8/8 announcement is. Tesla needs a full sized SUV.
A year from now, I doubt Model Y production will keep up with frantic demand...
Why you get your tires replaced at tesla ?
Why not?
Model S is the same problem with the turn signals. Should have been haptic. I glued a tiny bit of black plastic on the left turn signal (lower one) so I could find it without looking.
So some kind of embossed symbol would be good?
@@malax4013 I suppose its all in how one drives. I use my left hand in the 9 o'clock position. My thumb becomes quite close to the turn signals and the little bump tells me I'm on the lower one. Just me. I kind of liked the stalks.
@@arleneallen8809 I think the haptic buttons makes sens if you have electric steering control and
@@malax4013 Yes. I wish the model S had the variable ratio steering that's on the CT. I would have gotten the yoke in that case. Oh well.
I also got an S and have started to get used to the turn signals but.... what no one talks about is the ridiculous hooter button. In 4 months, I haven't used the hooter once, and I am afraid that in an emergency I will not be able to find it quickly enough.
I drove my old M3 yesterday (after a long absence) and found all the controls so much more natural. It's a better driving experience - end of story.
Good info sounded unbiased the Highlander. P. S guidance is always free.😊
The dual motor 3 refresh is a rocket ship. I hope you try it.
I have a 2024 Model S and I hate the button turn signals. I often have to take my eyes off the road to use it
Same here!
In my new model 3 I have yet to have a problem with it. Idk if the model s has the line in between right and left signal but the model 3 does and if you feel for the line before you make the turn it’s very easy
Driving for 30+ years using the stalk makes it hard to change habits. I’m sure I will learn. 1 car with buttons, 3 with stalks. Might take me a while
I have an October 2023 Model S and I have started to get used to the turn signal buttons. Getting "used to" and "liking" are 2 very different things! The hooter button is a far more serious "defect".
Ride a motorcycle for a month. That will train your muscle memory.
Cheers mate
Very nice car, but I get from Chicago to NYC in about 14hrs with 3 kids with all the stops included in my 2011 Prius with 175K miles on it. So it would be downgrade for me from Prius, but I definitely want it to drive it around neighborhood and and go grocery shopping/ taking kids to zoo
This one looks like a car we would like to own ❤
I really hope the Tesla Compact hasn’t been canceled, because I’ve been waiting to be able to afford a Tesla.
Elon must have heard you. You can now transfer your old 2018 FSD to your new car, for a limited time.
You have my cup. L-Ion warmed. I use mine for Huel soups
Tesla needs to put more effort into making sure controls on the steering wheel are better. They just don’t put enough effort into this.
such problems, the buttons don't feel right and the quality of the stereo system
Looks much the same to me, definitely not “new”. Also the door closing “good” is a big improvement?
Good video man :)
Well you're underselling it a bit, that cat there beats all (?) BMWs and some Porsche's in the "moose test" and some slalom stuff. It's a handling monster compared to the Audi A4 etc. And the Ludicrous will beat it all
Tesla missed a trick, should have been a hatchback - far more versatile.
Do you realise how much structural change that would require?
Basically a different car, and heavier to mount the hatch... Plus a cross member at the hinge point which would encroach on rear headspace....
Which would require a higher roofline.....
Which would make it a.... ?

Model Y.
.
Duh?
I disagree. Hatchbacks are noisier and are not as stiff. A proper sedan should be sedan, not a hatchback. If you want a hatchback, buy the Model Y (it's even cheaper with the Federal Tax Credit).
I’ve always liked liftbacks, so practical. my old Mazda 626 …
this is likely what the Model 2 or whatever they call it will be, and sort of what the slightly more expensive model Y is, so there was no reason to also make the model 3 a hatchback.
Tesla, please make it appealing to own.
so dope!
Stupid idea to remove indicators in countries that have round abouts. Stupid
Removing the stalks is so annoying. Turn signals and changing gears is now really awkward. Why Tesla? Why? Why?
Agree 1000%. Why on earth..... And the hooter is even worse and a safety issue.
I test drove one I got used to in like 3 turns
@@alexd302the hooter? The horn?? The horn is in the middle like any other car it's not a button like the model s
@@nathansuss OK, I thought it was the same as in the S. Happily, sanity seems to have prevailed!
Perhaps you could put a drop of crazy glue in the middle of the turn signal button
Funny, talking about turn signals seems so passé in view of fsd. Like a crank handle on a car back in the days!
put the stalks back! Wont be going with Tesla for our next car, r2 looking good.
The new Model 3 Highland refresh with Ludicrous/Plaid will be INSANE.
It's Ludicrous, definitely not Plaid. Would be awesome to have a Plaid model, though.
Teslas really are the new poor mans quick car. 😂 all tesla people care about is how little they can pay for a quick but ugly car
@@G82Watts Jealousy and insecurity is what you are experiencing.

turn signal buttons? really? C’mon. man.
Looks like a dozen other Chinese EVs. Tesla spelled out on trunk lid necessary to distinguish it from other Chinese cars. I also prefer the OG headlamps, they were distinguishable from a mile away. Upgraded sliver lamps, again, very Chinese looking. Clearly this car is targeting Asian market.
$44,740 Model 3 LR purchase (no IRA tax credit)
$38,890 Model Y LR purchase (eligible for and including IRA tax credit)
-------------
$5,850 Savings by choosing Model Y LR over Model 3 LR
I personally still decided to go with the Model 3 LR with no tax credit. To me, the upgrades the new 3 brings are worth the extra 6k.
Depends on what breaks.. a lot of the time they come to you and fix it with a mobile van
Man, I live in rural Nova Scotia and don't have to go 200 miles to a Tesla store. We got plenty of Superchargers too. And free Tesla chargers on the main street in our town (pop. 550).
@@nathansuss Will they send the van to my place? (400 mile round trip commute)
Removing stalks is a huge misstake!
I took delivery of a new Model 3 last week. It only took a couple of days to be comfortable with the stalk-less controls.

The word button has 2 ts please pronounce at least one of them
Thanks for the review
Can’t wait to take a test drive
Nobody in Brooklyn pronounces inter-vocalic double consonants: bu ' on.
If you're over 6'2 the seats are too small. It's a shame because it's nice to drive. And it could have a hud
Maybe the turn signal button supplier thought they were going into BMWs
Tested Highland twice and the vehicle was lovely but the turn signal buttons are really bad. Also Tesla is in this bad spot where they only have tax credit on the model that everyone is waiting for a refresh on. Makes the refreshed Model 3 artificially look like a terrible value.
Government incentives distort the market. Makes it impossible to evaluate underlying "demand."
I would think they would need improved quality to complete in China. The price point is high relative to the competition over there.
Model Y is No. 1 in China - without upgrade...
I guess I mean for fit and finish. As the Chinese OEMs improve, the more discerning customers might not be ok paying lexus prices for toyota quality.
What to know if new M3 has hardware 4?
Yes, it has the latest and greatest. Only thing it doesn't have that I wish it did is a front bumper camera like the CyberTruck.
Didn't notice the hair :)

I'm surprised because I have transferred my FSD to my October 23 S Plaid and it works great. It's got version 4 hardware.
@@alexd302 I don't think it's because of the Hardware 4. Seems to be something about the "new model" sounds like a similar "problem" to the CyberTruck...
Why Model Y does not do the same upgrade which can share more parts with new model 3 and reduce the cost. I just don’t get it
It’s coming. That’s why Tesla has huge incentives on their current y models. It’s right around the corner…
That is happening in early 2025, as confirmed by Tesla themselves.

Do yourself a favor if you own a Tesla and NEVER purchase tires from the dealership. They don't pro-rate!!!
wait, the window needs to go up/down to open and close the door?
that's going to cause issues over time.
Most modern cars with frameless windows do that.
Why? My 4 1/2 year old M3 has no issues.
Any car with a frameless window does that.
@@ProXcaliber so tesla isn't the only one to disregard reliability?
considering how freakishly long their battery packs are lasting now, that may be worse for them long term.
I really dont see how anyone can look at this car and think it looks super cool. The front looks like some weird chinese fish then it turns into some bulbous thing towards the rear. They dont really match up design wise. It doesnt give off a mean or aggresive cool look. Looks like a commuter car.
Once your EV will no longer charge above 90 percent, get rid of it. Sell it and let the next guy worry about how to junk the car and recycle its batteries.
