- This is a nice easy woodturning project which is suitable for the beginner to try. The gear shift knob I made here can be made from just about any wood.
This woodturning channel, explores the uses of wood when combined with resin, epoxy, to make woodturning projects, that are easy and can be classed as art. A lot of the wood turning projects I make can be completed by the beginner through to the more experienced wood turner. If you have any ideas for artwork, wood inlays, epoxy projects or any other wood turning projects please get in touch. Collaborations are always welcomes.

Been in a bit of a funk with turning for about a month while it’s been really hot. You get my appetite for it back! Well done and thanks. Keep being original! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks my friend, I can be tough when it gets hot. Stay safe
Big fan of wood detailing on anything. Fantastic knob job!
Why thanks 😀
Nice looking knob. Well done.
I like to cut out the diameter on a piece of cardboard to use as a check of diameter and shape. Works for me.
Pen turners often use CA glue as a finish. It buffs to a nice shine and stands up to the oils from the hand very well. Can be a bit messy to apply. There are many videos on this finish/method.
The wood will feel a lot more comfortable that the metal knob on a hot summer day.
Dave.
Thanks Dave, I have used CA finish before but not a huge fan, either that or I'm not that good at it and just need to practice more. We are due a heatwave here over the next few days so a non metallic knob will be a godsend. Thanks as always.
Mike
That’s a very nice shift knob! Makes me want to go out and buy a standard shift automobile just so I can turn a fancy shift knob!
It threw me off seeing the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car, but then I remembered you Brits drive from the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the street.😊😊
Hahaha, quick history lesson:
Napoleon ordered his armies to use the right-hand side of the road in order to avoid congestion during military manoeuvres.
Traffic congestion in 18th century London led to a law being passed to make all traffic on London Bridge keep to the left in order to reduce collisions. This rule was incorporated into the Highway Act of 1835 and was adopted throughout the British Empire.
Great piece and well turned! Made a few gear knobs in the past, fun project! Nice work 👏
Thanks 👍 nice of you to say. Last time I made one it was just a case of drilling a hole in a golf ball and screwing it on 😃
@@MikeHolton Still a valid way, not as cool as this though!
Agreed
Honestly pretty cool, wouldn't look out of place in my jag ;) Nice work!
Thanks!
I wish I would have had my lathe when I owned my Jeep. I would have made 50 different shift knobs. Lol. Nice work sir.
Thanks mate, they are fun to make.
Thanks 👍MGF ?
Yes indeed, I not longer have this car unfortunately but I had it for 5 very happy years.
Fantastic! Love it!!! Now, need a video on how to make one for my motorbike! 😝
Coming soon! Watch this space :D
@@MikeHolton 🤣🤣🤣👍
I just discovered your video thanks. I was asked to make the same last week.
Cool, have fun making it 😀
Better than a golf ball!
HAHAHA, That so reminds me of my first car
@@MikeHolton - that was a good lil car!
@@Matthew_Holton I know and probably worth more than the £350 I sold it for :D
Nice Knob Mike lol
Aston @IWMS
Thanks Aston :) I would love to know what you thought of my eyebowl video. Your work is amazing
@@MikeHolton I'm filled with jealousy of your eye project as i actually was half way through making something similar (until I slipped while drilling out the centre of the eye and wrecked it lol) Yours is amazing with the stem, I was aiming for a orb. I'll maybe try it out again in the future but i will never top yours.
@@IWANNAMAKESTUFF Oh I bet you can, the video I did before this one was an eye bowl I'm quite happy with.
This makes me wish I had a car with a shift knob like this. Mine had a button on it.
Such a shame, but buttons are way cool! 😀
Very well done. 👍 Love the channel. Like to do a sticker swap with you to put on my board in my work shop. Subscribed
Hi Robert, thanks and yes, would love to do a sticker swap. Send me your address mike@mikeholton.net and I'll give you my address as well. All the best, Mike
Very cool 😎
What was that thumbnail🤣
Yeah well er 🙂
@@MikeHolton Iit worked it got my attention 👍😎

All the comments are wrong, you are on the right side for driving, lol 😂 literally.
As far as discussing your knob, let's just say it turned out brilliantly 🤭
Enjoyed the video. Here's to the next one. Thanks Mike
Lol sniggering at a knob joke 🤣😂 don't ever grow up 😁
@@MikeHolton nope lol
@@fionacrouch1732 haha good 😊
@@MikeHolton just for the record, I didn't snigger. More of a giggle lol
@@fionacrouch1732 🤣😂😅 Morning
Awesome! But are you going to actually keep it on for the long run?
Not sure yet, it will be there till the heat wave passes, the metal one can get pretty hot lol
Brilliant! My husband has put in a request for a new gear knob o his MG. What sort of car do you have?
Thanks Rachel, this as on my MGF VVC, unfortunately I sold the car earlier in the year.
Shame. We have had our MG for over 35 years! It shares my workshop@@MikeHolton
@@racheldray1057 Nice, I loved mine
They definitely have character. @@MikeHolton
Lovely job, love to know what the car is tho....
Thanks Steve, it's an MGF 🙂
@@MikeHolton I thought so, going by the handbrake….
Ey m8 your steering wheel's on the wrong side
That's ok I drive on the left to compensate 😂
@@MikeHolton Nah that just doubles the wrong
