  • What is that ornament on the gearstick brass plate:
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    The hamsa (Arabic: خمسة‎, romanized: khamsah, Hebrew: חמסה‎, romanized: hamsah) is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Maghreb and in the Middle East and commonly used in jewelry and wall hangings.[1][2] Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many times throughout history, the hamsa is believed by middle easterners, to provide defense against the evil eye. The hamsa holds recognition as a bearer of good fortune among Christians in the Middle East as well.[3]

    Fantastic, thank you for sharing. Some years ago I made a gearstick knob for my car and spray finished it and it didn't last very long, firstly the varnish wasn't thick enough and secondly living in Croatia I use sunscreen which reacted with the spray varnish and it became very sticky and was horrible. I have since resanded it and used a 2 component polyurethane varnish which is fantastic.

    I really enjoy your content. I have made three frame saws based on your ideas. Thank you so much. Something my father taught my brothers and I as young boys. REMOVE THE CHUCK KEY FROM THE CHUCK EVERY TIME. Even if you are done with the lathe. You will get in the habit and leave it in while working, turn on the lathe and there will be an avoidable accident. So please do us free loaders who do not pay you for good content, but are grateful for it. Please do us a favor and please, please remove the chuck key every time so we can continue to take advantage of your generosity and watch the great videos you provide. Again I really do like all the different projects you produce.

    "Pre-enactment"... It's a word now! You just invented it (or "coined it", to use the English term for inventing new words)! And an excellent word it is. I have to find somewhere to use it!

      At the end of the day, all words are made up :D

    • @TobiasTHolmes
      @TobiasTHolmes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The term "coined" is similar to "formalised" or "popularised", others may have used it is passing, but one who coins a term brings it's existence to fruition.
      Words are not invented, or in the least case, this avoids petty squabblings of the progenitor's identity.

    • @droppedpasta

      @@ElliotNesterman What’s the difference? According to the internet, they’re the same thing.

    • @ElliotNesterman
      @ElliotNesterman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@droppedpastaEngine turning is done on one of several kinds of engine engraving machines. There are straight line engravers, circular engravers, and rose engines. Straight line and circular engravers are used for engraving the complex patterns you see under high-end transparent enamel and on the faces of fine watches. Rose engines are the woodworking version of engine turners.
      Jeweling is a much simpler technique done with abrasive disks.

    Uri, I found something I want to see you make. Its called a Two Legged Parser. Its a brass inlay tool. You can make a steel pattern and then make a Two Legged Parser drill and it will cut out your shape and then you can inlay brass in to your projects. Let me know if you see this message. I seen a video about it on some other channels and thought that it would be something that you can make your dove with and a few other things. Look in to it as I think you can use this and it would be a super cool project that you could do. Its up your alley of weird tools.
