    So I moved from Edinburgh to an isolated farmhouse in Fife we had septic tank, which we only needed to empty once every 5 years although like you we were told anually. We lived there for over 20 years. We loved not having neighbours raising our own sheep and pigs growing our own veg. Wishing you all the best for your adventour

    My husband and I have been watching every video (this channel because we LOVE it so much and Sarah’s “She Walks, She Paints” channel too - art is my passion also)! We adore your antics with Jack Spaniels, the scenery, videography and history you share with us. We both feel very connected to your lives because both of our families are of Scottish descent and mine came from Skye as well as Lewis and Harris. Farmers, fishermen and carpenters/furniture makers are deeply rooted and my great great grandparents settled here in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee because it reminded them of home. We are proud of our history and we truly do live vicariously through you and your adventures. We are praying that the next couple of years will allow us to fulfill our dreams of coming to spend two or three months in Scotland. We had planned to do that for our 35th wedding anniversary in February 2022 but we all know what happened to nix those plans. Listening to Willie play music makes my heart smile because it reminds me so much of our family traditions of sitting in a circle and everyone pulling out their instruments, playing and singing. Music is a huge part of our family as well. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Wishing you a very happy, blessed and peaceful day! ❤ xx ~ Jan and Ronnie Trent

    I have lived with a septic tank as waste disposal for most of my life. They have definitely improved in that time. They are so much better and more economical than a holding tank that has to be pumped out regularly. Here in Canada it’s recommended that they be pumped out every three years, that can be extended if you are careful about what is flushed down the toilet or drained out of the kitchen sink. The filter bed carry’s away the liquids, the solids are what get pumped out. Therefore, flush as little paper as possible, never ‘flushable’ wipes and absolutely no fats or oils, or bits from the dishpan. It’s important that no solids ever enter the filter bed, otherwise it gets blocked and requires an expensive replacement.

    • @mzpatintexas8329
      @mzpatintexas8329 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I do with my septic, as little paper as possible,watch what is put down the kitchen sink.
      I have an Aerobic Septic, and I’ve been able to go as long as five years without cleaning out the septic tank.

    There are so many comments I could make! Sarah, you live with a couple of goofballs! How fun! Jack refusing to cross the bridge was hysterical! Really Jack?! The scenery is is stunning! Who does the drone video of you and Sarah together? Music is beautiful! Does Willie do most of the cooking? It is very apparent you are great mates! That is really awesome to see! Can’t wait for next week!

    • @livingtheskyelife
      @livingtheskyelife  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Aww thanks Terri! I really do - but they brighten up every day with their antics 😊 We couldn’t work out why Jack wouldn’t cross the bridge - he is usually so fearless haha! Willie operates the drone on all our videos - when he is in shot, he just sets up the shot to record automatically (they have built in shots like a circle) and subtly hides the controller 😅 We try to share the cooking between us but Willie is definitely better than me! He does a lot of the more interesting dishes, whereas I tend to stick to the easier stuff! Sarah x

    Such a beautiful part of the world! It is fun to watch your videos about hikes and being outdoors. I have a suggestion for the mold--- use white vinegar instead of mold spray--- my understanding is the mold spray covers up the mold whereas vinegar actually kills it off. "Natural" to my way of thinking is always worth a try .... versus chemicals.

    I love Scottish biscuits with all of their butter they are awesome I’ll keep them here in my house and have them with my cup of tea! I am so thankful for the Scottish! After my Mom died in 2014 for several weeks I couldn’t sleep so I got addicted to the BBC series Monarch of the Glen and stayed up for several weeks watching all of the episodes! And the very first week of watching I’ve felt an affinity for the landscape which was filmed Fort Williams! I couldn’t get over the feelings I had while watching that series and I thought to myself I wonder if I have any ancestry from that area because I’ve never had feelings like this before! I live in Williamsburg Virginia in the US which was the original capital of this country and where we declared war on the governor of England for our freedom! So I know I have English background because there was a Captain Grigsby who brought all of the kings friends from England to Jamestown Virginia which is nearby and my family or Grigsby‘s on my mother side and we received a land grant through this captain Grigsby from the king of England! It is up north of Virginia near Fredericksburg Virginia! So anyway back to Monarch of the Glen because I couldn’t sleep but I started searching on ancestry.com for any connections I may have to Scotland and I found that my grandmother on my mother side was actually a McWhirt! Tracing that back to guess what the area around Fort Williams in Scotland! I found that I have a rich heritage from Scotland and that area! So it just goes to show you that we are connected to the land that our DNA remembers that connection! I remember once reading that our DNA carries all of our memories back to our ancestors and that’s why we think we have past life experiences but in fact it is the memory caring in our DNA! So way back somewhere we’re probably related! Anyway I certainly enjoyed your videos and watching you to experience the new life in a beautiful area and I get to travel through you guys without having to leave my couch! Like I mentioned in a previous video I have a black American cocker spaniel his name is Max and I adore him! I have had cocker spaniels for a long time at one point I had five and would have 20 if I could handle them all! Thanks again for the adventures of Jack spaniels he’s an awesome very smart dog!

I berated myself when I watched you climbing the Cuillin peak, for having been such a piggin' stick in the mud when I had a superb girlfriend 40 years ago, and probably 40000 tears ago, who always wanted to be out in nature. And I spoiled it, every time she wanted to go hiking, or walking. Little wonder she walked away. You guys enjoy every single day. Do not be an Andrew.

I’ve never tried to do it, but as a little girl more than 40 years ago, getting one of those biscuits was biggest treat! I lost her when I was 7 and she was the best friend I’ve ever had. It was nice to be reminded of her!

    Hi to you both! I heard you talk about the Skye weather. You probably heard this before, but a local there once told me, ‘if you can see Skye from the mainland it means it’s going to rain .. if you can’t see Skye from the mainland, it means it’s raining already’. It’s ancient but it’s golden.

    Hi again Willie and Sarah, we are a couple of months ahead of you in Skye life as we moved up last September.
    We have a wind turbine and I’m just installing a battery storage system to reduce our reliance on the grid. You are more than welcome to pop by and see how it all works.
    On the shopping front we use Morrisons and Tesco click and collect and only use the coop in emergencies! They have collection points in either Broadford or Portree.
    We are loving the channel, thanks for sharing your journey.
    All the best, Barry and Debbie

    My family were going to live on sky as it was our favourite place in Scotland in the early 70s . We used to travel from the isle of Wight to Scotland twice a year to travel around, this brings back so many memories. But instead we moved to Australia , a very big island ..lol , were my sister lived but I kept up the Scottish theme by getting married to a second generation Aussie those family came from Dundee and my two girls used to do highland dancing . It is a beautiful place , lucky you .

    😂As someone who moved onto a rural property several years ago, I can totally relate to having to learn about what a septic system consists of! Including why I can’t plant a shrub “there” because it’s where the septic pipes are …….. ugggh and yes, the pumping of the tanks ….and I’ve also learned that it’s dangerous to let coffee grounds down your drain (because it clogs septic field pipes), and not putting too much fresh water down the drain (because it over dilutes the good bacteria in the tank that breaks down waste)….
    Who knew! I’m used to pooping, flushing and forgetting about it……😊

    • @livingtheskyelife
      @livingtheskyelife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahaha yes it was an interesting day learning all about that 😅 Good tip about the coffee grounds! We use a drip filter so most go in the food waste bin anyway, but good to know!!

    Loving the series ... spent my summers on Skye visiting family through the 70's n 80's ... am 52 n have visted sporadically in the last 20 years) mostly North end Trotternish / Snizort (Skeabost / Edinbane / Uig ) , guessing you on Loch Harport or near enough ( dont expect you to confirm .... you dont need a couple of thousand well-wishers stopping by for a cuppa lol) ... fond memories of random hikes to oh , the top of there ; fishing for supper n belligerent sheeps are all part of the charm (along with horizontal rain, 80 degree Aprils, T Rex Midgies .... its all a bit mad, beautiful n unpredictable .... wish you both the best n jealous as h3ll )

    Have you ever taken mountaineering classes on how to navigate icy conditions? I'm sure you're careful about changeable weather. Running into an icy freeze (Julian Sands) is life threatening. For where you live, I would each carry a small ice pick and at the very least a Garman satellite signaler. Beautiful country. Thanks for sharing it with us.
