I dunno why TH-cam is showing this video to so many people, but I've replied to your comments as of 1/1/25 here: th-cam.com/video/qz9L_NYT8nc/w-d-xo.html enjoi lol, and subscribe at your own risk!
For some reason, TH-cam suggested your video because I geek out on makers, tinkerers, and old radios and such. Nice to meet you! Regarding the two D's: Dexter: If you watched the last series because you have Showtime via your cable provider, you might get free Paramount+ so you can stream the Original Sin one. (I'm in the USA and worked as an extra on the new one but haven't seen myself yet.) Dell: If that old PC ran Windows 7 or above, it can still be very useful running Linux. Sticking a SATA SSD drive in there would greatly improve the speed (plus Linux isn't as bloated as Windows), and it should still have more life left in it and be useful to someone with modest requirements. Or even use it as a home server, etc.
We don't have Showtime in Australia, and we only ever had one cable provider (Foxtel) that I'm not sure anyone even has anymore. I didn't watch Dexter: New Blood on streaming anyway, I have the Blu-Ray. As for the Dell, I'm certain the graphics card is toast, and it wouldn't start up the last time I tried. The thing is not worth the effort. How's working as an extra? I considered it in the past but I can't do the early mornings and long hours haha. I did do some scare acting a few years back though, here's one of the videos I made about it: th-cam.com/video/-5cIKvndmTA/w-d-xo.html
@@DestroyerMariko Being an extra: There's not enough work, the hours are long and start too early in most cases (or run all night if it's a night shoot), and the pay is just a little over minimum wage. Still, I enjoy it because it sure beats working for a living! I do it only because, and only as long as, it is fun. I'd hate to rely on it for income, but I'm retired so the long breaks (I haven't worked since Dexter in November), serve as "vacation" and I still get excited when I get booked for something. I live in the L.A. area, but sadly a lot of production is leaving California, but I hope they come back for the same reason film production came out here in the first place: The weather!
The weather, but not so much the fire... stay safe out there!! Does sound like a good retirement gig though. I've tried to convince my dad to get a job as a Santa haha, so far no luck! 🙃
My DP-UB820 should arrive tomorrow. Not sure why I waited so long to get a player as I have a pretty decent UHD movie collection. Thanks to everyone keeping physical media alive.

AH Blu-ray. There is something about owning PHYSICAL media. Series that don't show up anymore. Movies you love [sorry we removed it from Netflix two weeks ago] in the best quality possible. Sit back, eat popcorn, have FUN.
Absolutely! I mean, I did originally watch Primal Fear on my parents' Netflix, but when I went back to it, it was gone, so now I have it for real. I've always just not trusted subscription models because I'm stingy af lol, but having them delete things makes it so much worse, and the increasing proliferation of companies making their own services and taking their content off others is detrimental to everyone.
ohhh at 25:02 it says Dutch things like: "this ultra hd blueray is specially developed for 4K ultra HD displays whom support high dynamic range, suitable equipment and connectors are required for an optimal viewing experience. " :D
You should put a Rattlebyte region free mod chip in the player-it only requires beginner level soldering skills and the chip unlocks some cool features if you’re a foreign language film fan. Excellent unit! 🤙🏻✌🏻
Ah I really don't watch enough stuff to justify tinkering like that lol. I used to solder guitar cables and audio things and so on, but yeah it's rare that I've ever wanted to buy something I couldn't get in a local region version.
Nice player😊 I've had mine for a few years now and finally realised to go easy and treat her with with a bit of respect otherwise can get a bit glitchy . Maybe you'll get an amp and speakers next? Take care steve😊

Nah, I addressed this in my follow-up video answering people's comments th-cam.com/video/qz9L_NYT8nc/w-d-xo.html basically I have absolutely no space because I'm chaotic haha, but I do have speakers and a sub
@ I run my speakers through the monitor so I can use them with both my PC and the UHD player without having to swap cables all the time. The PC goes via DisplayPort and the UHD player goes via HDMI, and I just switch inputs on the monitor as needed.
Let’s hope that you have better luck than so many of us, with the (in)famous Panasonic tray defect. One day, out of the clear blue, you will be unable to open the tray and insert/remove your disc. Panasonic is WELL aware of the defect, but continue to act like it’s not a thing. How have I handled this issue, twice? I order a new unit from a big retailer, and insert my defective player as “defective.” I get a brand-new unit, as I will NOT send mine out, paying over $200.00 to have it fixed. Dishonest? Sure, but isn’t Panasonic being equally dishonest by willfully selling me a p,Ayer with a known defect?
I mean, my other option was a Sony one that has a reputation for freezing while playing. On a scale of frustration, freezing while you're in the middle of something and already invested in the story is way worse than just not starting the thing at all 😅 but yeah cross fingers.
You using a computer monitor to watch the films. It's even more important then to set the HDMI range; either Full (0-255) or limited (16-235). Either one or the other will give better picture and blakcs.

I've seen the first 3 episodes of original sin. Gonna watch the 4th later today. It's...... ok I guess. The one thing it could have going for it is a topic for another day, but it's watchable at least. Still not even close to being as good as pre (or post) relationship dexter of course.
Damn. Couldn't be worse than New Blood though right? Tbh tho I dunno why Original Sin needed to be made, surely Dexter's original flashbacks gave us what we needed to know already?
@@DestroyerMariko I wont see it as canon so I'll be more forgiving. The possibility of an original dexter timeline continuation is still what I hope for since we've been hinted. And THAT has to be good. That has to be what new blood should have been! New blood (with a different name) had the potential to be good. You know, dexter in a new place trying to escape his past, old demons and the past catching up, his face being spotted by a camera and miami metro sees it, running again maybe. But no.... They had to make it about moron harrisons teenage angst high school drama.. Angel getting no more than a cheap cameo appearance. A slap in the face of fans.. 🤬 Fuckin bullshit... Great now I'm worked up about that again.. Shit... 😂
Haha but also he made a TONNE of obvious mistakes. And sure, he might be out of practise, but to that extent? Ngl if I had the energy, I could do a DexterSins type series on it! XD

Does the player make a lot of noise when watching 4K discs?
Nah, I mean it spins but it's much quieter than having my computer on or using the garbage DVD player Dell gave me. I didn't notice it at all tbh :)
Have you tried just putting the sub on its side and then running that first shelf with the 4K player?
