At this point, watching AEW just feels like going through the motions. Interviews being interrupted, every match needing a commercial break, Excalibur being insufferable. I really REALLY wamted this company to flourish, but its becoming clear, its just a goofier, indier version of WWE's sports entertainment model.

I have to admit whenever I watch Kubrick's 2001, I make it a point to chant "E-C-DUB!" every time the gorilla hits the other ape over the head repeatedly with the bone. Supposedly, when the apes and humans touched the obelisk/monolith in the movie, they gained some sort of transcendental knowledge that allowed them to evolve. Here, the sycophantic praising of Tony Khan as some kind of genius seems to have the inverse effect on his minions. Maybe we'll get to the point where Moxley, etc. are hopping up and down making ape sounds like in that episode of South Park where Bebe's boobz develop and the kids devolve. Either way, besides Christian and Claudio, this episode of Dynamite gave me very little hope for the evolution of pro-wrestling. It was more like reverse Social Darwinism.

In Excalibur's defence, his wrestling IQ is brilliant. He does play-by-play really well, he just lacks any real personality and it comes off cringe when he tries to spice it up. Stick him with a good colour commentator (Taz) and he's much better. If they're dead set on having a third, then have someone to cheer the heel or face (depending on where Taz is on the heel-face spectrum at the time).
MLW would be a great wrestling show if they had the money to get CM Punk , Bryan Danielson , Christian cage and Cody. MLW have some Trash on the show but they know how to book the main event scene.

That probably wouldn't work. The reactions from the locker room to his critcisms have made it very clear that no one among the "AEW originals" and playfriends of the "executive vice presidents" respect him. They publically made fun of him, when he criticised them on his podcast because he couldn't get anyone to listen behind closed doors. Maybe it's a bit different now with all the ex-WWE performers on the roster, but the "indie darlings" there clearly have no respect for him and think he's nothing but a washed-up fossil. His multiple senior moments and obvious boredom/annoyance on the mike really don't help with anything either, I guess.

7:35 - The story I heard is that Cassidy based his in ring character from some character in the movie Wet Hot American Summer and the opening theme of that movie was Jane by Jefferson Starship. My own conspiracy theory is that Cassidy had been blocked from using this song up until now because Cody Rhodes used to some down to the ring to "Smoke and Mirrors" in the WWE and that song is a weak rip off of Jane.
Great review of Blood and Guts from Jim and Bryan. As an old school fan when I used to watch modern wrestling, I enjoyed the occasional hardcore match-tables, chairs, maybe a ladder, etc and I appreciated the blood to make the match look more brutal when it was done right. But every single hardcore match in AEW-thumbtacks and tables. Everyone always takes those bumps and it never ends a match. And the spot with Sammy Guevara going through the table (I saw a clip of it on another youtuber channel) just looked so phony. When Mick Foley did it in 1998, that was a straight up fall through the announcer table and it looked brutal. In 2022, they keep doing that same spot and it just looks pathetic and it's an insult. They shouldn't even do the spot. I know WWE has somewhat copied the spot with Shane Mcmahon getting thrown from the cage/hell in a cell through a table or when Kevin Owens falling through it and although not as good as Foley's (nothing ever will be), even those spots didn't look as phony but even then, those will end the match! I agree with Jim about how it's getting to the point with these matches how they just come across looking bad-they go too long, the big bumps don't mean anything, and the spots-the thumbtacks, the tables, are pointless to use when they don't beat anyone!
Pockets music was used in a tv show about a summer camp with mavels antman dressed up like Eddie Vedder .I'm pretty sure he got it from that because it was on right before pockets showed up on the seen.

In Excalibur's defence, his wrestling IQ is brilliant. He does play-by-play really well, he just lacks any real personality and it comes off cringe when he tries to spice it up. Stick him with a good colour commentator (Taz) and he's much better. If they're dead set on having a third, then have someone to cheer the heel or face (depending on where Taz is on the heel-face spectrum at the time).
I wonder if they had him the second hour and rampage just because of the Battle Royal.

As a announcer though, He should have done been pulled off the show. It's one thing to lose your touch. But losing your touch & proceeding to bury the talent in the company on live television, That's a whole other story.
That probably wouldn't work. The reactions from the locker room to his critcisms have made it very clear that no one among the "AEW originals" and playfriends of the "executive vice presidents" respect him. They publically made fun of him, when he criticised them on his podcast because he couldn't get anyone to listen behind closed doors.
Maybe it's a bit different now with all the ex-WWE performers on the roster, but the "indie darlings" there clearly have no respect for him and think he's nothing but a washed-up fossil.
His multiple senior moments and obvious boredom/annoyance on the mike really don't help with anything either, I guess.

My own conspiracy theory is that Cassidy had been blocked from using this song up until now because Cody Rhodes used to some down to the ring to "Smoke and Mirrors" in the WWE and that song is a weak rip off of Jane.

Great review of Blood and Guts from Jim and Bryan. As an old school fan when I used to watch modern wrestling, I enjoyed the occasional hardcore match-tables, chairs, maybe a ladder, etc and I appreciated the blood to make the match look more brutal when it was done right. But every single hardcore match in AEW-thumbtacks and tables. Everyone always takes those bumps and it never ends a match. And the spot with Sammy Guevara going through the table (I saw a clip of it on another youtuber channel) just looked so phony. When Mick Foley did it in 1998, that was a straight up fall through the announcer table and it looked brutal. In 2022, they keep doing that same spot and it just looks pathetic and it's an insult. They shouldn't even do the spot. I know WWE has somewhat copied the spot with Shane Mcmahon getting thrown from the cage/hell in a cell through a table or when Kevin Owens falling through it and although not as good as Foley's (nothing ever will be), even those spots didn't look as phony but even then, those will end the match! I agree with Jim about how it's getting to the point with these matches how they just come across looking bad-they go too long, the big bumps don't mean anything, and the spots-the thumbtacks, the tables, are pointless to use when they don't beat anyone!
