I'm new in 2020 to the M5, purchasing a kit with the 18-150mm for only a bit more than the lens alone would cost since the camera has been discontinued. I know that videographers and vloggers would find it dated, but as my hiking camera, it is saving me a LOT of weight heading up the mountain sides of the Pacific Northwest, and as I enter my 7th decade, that's no small matter. But, when in the lowlands, with an adapter, I get to use all of my L glass, including my 70-200mm f/4 for birding.
Other than size of the sensor, I feel like I've given up nothing for quality of photos. The 18-150 mm performs very capably and I've added the 32 mm which performs amazingly, so I'm quite content with the purchase.

That's great to hear! I think especially for wildlife and landscape photographers the smaller size of most APS-C cameras and the crop factor is a huge plus especially when you don't need the faster glass. Also being able to use the 70-200 is also a huge plus! I got the 70-200 F4 IS to use with my canon M5 before I upgraded to full frame and it worked wonderfully on the crop body. Great to hear you've been enjoying the size benefits.
To be honest I miss the smaller size of the M cameras and lenses, but just can't justify keeping it if I have another camera I use for work. Cheers! 😄

@@KyleCWong I kept all of my full-frame gear as well (EOS R and lenses). I was trying to NOT own two cameras, but it didn't work out that way in my attempt to lighten the hiking pack. It took me a long time to bet to full-frame, and there's not way I'm going to give up the bokeh and dynamic range that makes possible. :-)

Just purchased an used M5 on ebay for €360. I am looking forward to trying it out!
I currently also own a 6D, 70D and the very first EOS M and thus already have some L lenses and the EF-M 15-45mm + EF-M 22mm. I want the M5 to be my video and travel camera (essentially replacing my 70D and EOS M but I might hold onto them because of Magic Lantern) and use my 6D for 'more ambitious' or planned shootings.
I am also getting the Viltrox Speedbooster, have you tried that one?

breathLP What a coincidence, I just got a 6D! The M5 is a pleasure to travel with! I have the 70-200 f4 IS which pairs nicely as a telephoto. I forgot I could get magic lantern on the older cameras. I have yet to try the viltrox speed booster, but something I want to try soon!

    I have one too. 😊
What mic are you using? Looks super compact and tidy.
Also well done on the bracket. I’d love a bracket that would clip into a tripod and peak designs clip, while allowing the screen to be flipped down

Ronan Brady - Anomaly Performance It's the Edutige ETM-008, it's a shot gun mic, and I actually followed a guide from @TubeNoob for that one. Thanks! :)

I am considering buying this camera for the sole purpose of retaining the EF and EF-S lenses that I own and use the older lenses as well. Would you be able to confirm for me that the evf displays the focus peaking? Or is it just the lcd screen that does this?

    • @KyleCWong

I don't have the camera anymore, but I believe you can use it through the EVF as well

Hi, since there’s an hdmi out on the m5, I don’t see why not as long as you have the right cables 👌

You record this video using a Nikon camera, dont you ??? It's crazy the focus hunting :/

    • @KyleCWong
      @KyleCWong  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

PixelArteSTD no, I was shooting on the M5, I think the focus stutter was because I'm using a ultra wide angle lens and keep moving my hands. I was using face detect, but I found that single point autofocus is much better for these types of sit down videos :)

@@KyleCWong That's weird :/ Looks so agressive.... But the quality seems preatty good. I've heard that the M5 has a worst quality than the rest of the M's cameras, but I don't know what to think :/ In other videos, like yours, seems to be fine. I'm thinkin about buying the M5 with the 32mm F1.4... :/

    • @KyleCWong

I think most of the newer EOS M cameras have about the same quality, I would focus more on the lighting then anything :)
