Mutual Respect - Patience - Civic Sense
These three qualities are the reason why the people of Mizoram are the most disciplined Indians on road.
Mizos' traffic etiquettes have been lauded time and again on the internet. Viral photos and videos of people patiently waiting in their lanes, without honking or overtaking are shared simply because the sight is rare as compared to the scene in the rest of India.
Mizos' traffic discipline has earned Aizawl the title of the 'Silent City' of India.

I m from Chennai south and I must say we have almost best roads than any other states, but its the people who block lanes and drive slower than rest of traffic.
If people just keep speed same as rest of traffic, we dont need to overtake. People just want to cross the next car in front even on an empty Highway

I had stayed for a month in Mizoram University and made a few rounds to Aizwal city. I was really amazed to see how disciplined the people are when it comes to traffic. Above all, they do not honk at all. Inspired by Mizoram, I have been riding my bike without horn since last 4 years.

Use it 'only' when it is necessary. Horn is there for a reason. Completely avoiding it is also nonsensical. What we should do is to use it only when it is necessary.
@@swapnilpawar8015 Yes. However, two things should be done together. If we decide not to use horn then we also should follow traffic rules very strictly even if the road is empty. Otherwise there will be problems. I obey all traffic rules very strictly. Self-discipline is very important.
@@debashish0612 I agree. But ultimately, horn is there for a reason, and we should use it when it is necessary to use it. Those who use it unnecessarily are illiterates in terms of road/traffic manners. Avoiding it generally and using it when it is absolutely important is a balanced approach.

Another driving tips within Aizawl that is often left out: Incase of real emergency like transporting critical patient to hospital, simply turn on your hazard light. Regardless of your vehicle model and make, you will be treated as an ambulance on duty by other drivers & traffic police and they will pave your way as if you are a VIP. No honking required.

@@RedDragon-yq7ro unfortunately Aizawl is a Hill Station. Current production electric vehicles do not have high power for slopes highways. An electric vehicle would be perfect for daily commuting in a small city like Aizawl. Unfortunately due to the city's geography it is not feasable

Let's be honest here, it's very difficult to get a driving licence here. We are tested meticulously in theory and practical, many fail and are denied a licence. For the rest of India excluding Sikkim it's quite easy to get a licence which I believe is one of the biggest issue.
Yess mizoram is setting a great example. I didn't even know this was possible on India. Nitin gadkari must take idea from this and implement in all states
Come to Arunachal and try to get an authentic Driving license.

We have to give viva voice after practicals. If not passed you have to start all over from beginning. Applying the form and medical checks up again which take upto 2 months most prior.

one of the best unwritten rules followed in Mizoram is that on village road, outside city or town, Bigger vehicle always give side for overtake when smaller vehicle are behind...U don't need to give them honk,if they see you on the side mirror they will wave their hand as soon as the overtake is safe on the narrow roads.... @@indianlion9652 I lived in delhi but city has excellent metro system so I don't bother taking roads. Tamil nadu has highest deaths due to road accidents but I won't generalize entire region because of that. The experiences are relative. U clearly said it those cool dudes hit pole around nd u happen to meet such people more in densely populated cities, be it north or south.

Most of the North eastern states follow traffic rules and I have been in Shillong for around 3 years and there when you cross road you can even do it by closing your eyes as there the people walking are given more priority than people going by cars 🙂

More than education it's a culture. I am Malayali , while many of us are actually interested in following traffic rules majority of them are not. Honking isnt that high compared to other states but I can't comprehend how people say "improve roads first, then we will follow traffic rules"..

Mizoram people have always cultivated the self discipline even in some markets there are no shopkeepers but Trust. Likewise in the street also they have mutual understanding.

I am in Aizawl right now for my job and to be honest it's wonderful the way they follow tariff rules. Moreover "The No honking thing" is outstanding. Now I am habituated to this and when I landed on Kolkata and suddenly heard everyone was honking horn, ohhh my god... I was like what hell 😅...
Sometimes such good habits are bad to adjust in other areas also 🤫

The first time I have experienced crazy traffic is Silchar city in Assam, I was in class 8 that time, i got sick at night because of the crazy noisy traffic and very smelly (good or bad smell i can't tell) even Kolkata has a smell, I thought it was just a hot weather smell😂
Living in indore city for 6yrs and I never realized it's cleanliness because Aizawl is also like that only (we always think aizawl is dirty though😅)
Bahhahaha this brings back memories of the time we first visited my uncle who lives in Delhi we were on the road driving and i remember being so nauseated because of the loud honkings on top of the burning hot weather plus seeing my uncle honking like a mad person for the first time was such an experience because he really is a calm person back here in Mizoram lmao
Once when I went to mizoram chongtei with my chakma friend in a bike i enter into a wrong way police caught us but still he didn't charged with fine instead he told us ,this is wrong way you please go from otherside..✌️✌️many mizos they help me in pushing my bike during rainy season.where there was mud everywhere . thanks to mizo people 😁😁

I'm from Manipur, my brother recently went to Mizoram as part of his college trip, says it's totally different from here tho we're neighbours, much better there. Although people generally drive fast, everyone wear helmet, and no honking. Someday i wanna visit too
I have lived there my whole childhood to adolescence and I can vouch for this that they have THE BEST ROADS AND TRAFFIC RULES ABIDING people in whole of India. I personally love that place, the people , the weather, the cleanliness they have, the humble people. Love them.

Steep and narrow roads also means skilled drivers. Moving a 4 wheel vehicle forward after a brief pause on a steep road requires skill with the pedals/footwork. Otherwise if the engine dies you'd have to go backwards and bump into the vehicle behind you. Our fellow countrymen from metropolitan cities would have a hard time navigating the streets of Mizoram and Meghalaya. 😁

There's a lot of traffic jam though. But no-one tries to break the rules by taking over or give the loudest honking. Everyone patiently waits for their turn

Mizoram deserved to be named as peace and progress state.. Not just traffic, I will narrate you few more what I hv witnessed.
1) wallet are never lost in Mizoram, for sure u wikk get back safely from police station.
2) open shop without owner :villagers keep the veg and fruits near by road and travllers and passeby tk and put the mooney in the box... No cheating so far.
That's it I'm shifting from Kerala to mizoram!

i started living in outside Mizoram ( I won't mention the state) since the past 2 months and the roads scared me so much, I'm afraid to cross the road as the vehicles are so fast and all the honking sounds sometimes makes me dizzy , one time while i was sitting on a scooter stuck in the traffic , one bike was trying to drive past me and it almost hit my leg and i could feel it reached my shoe🤧 i really miss my home
People do feel ashamed there for not following basic traffic rules , not respect to others , harrashing women or children , spitting anywhere , littering which is kinna a basic traits of humans unlike people of Delhi , UP or Bihar .

Aee bhai following traffic rules is good but why are you not using your mind here . How can you compare Delhi or mumbai with Aizawl . Comparison should be b/w two similar things . Density of delhi and Aizawl is totally different .you should not bluntly come to the conclusion . Its just not about people , its about city structure , desgin , population and several others factors which cause traffic .
@@anupamy22 you do have a good point. However, the original point still remains that traffic etiquette CAN be improved upon. Even at the current level of infrastructure and the pressure on it.
Also, while larger cities have higher traffic densities, they also have a much more favourable topography that enables easier construction of road and overall greater freedom in road design when comparing to Aizawl. That is what you'd expect and that is what you see as well. Wider roads, straighter roads on majorly flat lands to enable better traffic flow.

@@anupamy22 Density has nothing to do with following traffic rules, it's about mindset. It's you who is bluntly coming to conclusion. It is about people. Could you not see in the video how narrow the roads are, there aren't even road dividers and some part of the roads are at times covered with parked vehicles, still traffic is moving in both directions without any mess, not even honking. It's not even 1/6th of some the roads of major cities. If the vehicle density is more in bigger cities the roads are also much much wider. I live in bangalore, there are kms of road with 3+3 or 4+4 lanes, plus service roads on both sides(each of which have the width of a main road in Aizawl), but people don't give a shit about rules, they will drive dangerously and there will be endless honking, overtaking, taking wrong sides etc 24 hrs , even when there are less vehicles. Even inside residential areas or tech parks where the vehicle density is very less people drive like that and they honk all the time. It's just a bad excuse.
Same discipline is seen in Andaman islands also, no overtaking, no zigzag driving, no impatient honking, no wrong side driving.
smol place, less corruption=traffic policemen doing their work "ACTUALLY" isn't of letting anyone go who bribe em...people are not really much of a problem.......it's the government.....not saying people should stop following rules but higher responsibilty is on the gvrnmnt

Just visited Mizoram during last week. It was awesome and, yes, its really a Silent City. We hardly hear any horn of vehicles during visit of 04 days.
When i went out the first time out of mizoram, i fell so noisy and unnecessary honk by vehicle, it iritates me alottt!!, that time i realised how peacful and silent my state is!! After returning i count how many vehicle i can pass without hearing a horn, than i rode a scooty i pass more than 100 vehicle during traffic to hear one pitpittt😊😊
I will move here . I would love to live in a place like this for rest of my life.

When I went to Delhi , one most annoying thing is that while trying to cross the road many drivers never tried to stop their vehicle even though they know we want to cross the road , seems like they intentionally drive faster rather than stopping for the pedestrian to cross. I was like wtf is wrong with this people always in hurry but never in time🤦🏼♂️

One thing I notice that every two wheeler have their mirror intact, that thing missing in North Indian parts. Mirrors are important, because driving doesn't mean looking forward you also have to look behind not by turning your neck back, by looking in the mirrors.
Though it is mandatory as per MV Rules, it is implemented quite strict here in Mizoram

People from north east never disappoint's ... They are one of the most humble, geniune and disciplined citizen of our great nation India. Its true North eastern part doesn't get as much development like the rest of the nation, still they are flourishing whether it be education, sports etc imaging if they get enough infrastructure and development opportunity what all they can achieve.
Being a south indian i truly admire how they behave and treat.

In Nagaland the car will stop to allow us to cross the road. I got so use to that I almost got in accident when I was at shiliguri thinking the car will stop to allow us to cross the road. 😂😂😂

I have driven in Aizawl, Mizoram 1981 - 1984 via Khatla to Chaltlang and over the city I find very good to see mutual respect for each other. Updating my traveling all over India I drove from New Delhi - Shillong in 1987 & 1989 all over North East India via Guwahati, Assam to Manipur back to Shillong, Meghalaya within 1 months time we all came back home safely.
Mizos are one of the most discipline tribe of North East India.
I clean the street, i follow the traffic rules, never disappointed others, I'm the man of culture and I'm proud to be Indian so i took my responsibility in my hometown, so people can see the clean India 🇮🇳🇮🇳
Not only Mizoram, I guess the whole North east. I visited Gangtok and found that their traffic rules are implemented by the local people and taxi drivers. Hatsoff to these people of India

Indians can not learn basic stuff. Caning and fines are needed. Smoking was reduced hugely by making it illegal in public and fines
This kind of driving actually allows vehicles to move ahead faster. If everyone believes they have to get ahead, then they trip each other, cause jams and in the end the traffic becomes slower and frustrating to everyone. Mizo's way is the best way.
The question isnt why we are following traffic rules, the real question is why wouldn't you follow traffic rules😂

My friend just came from mizoram after a month's and he told he it was relaxing to drive around in Aizawl, nobody try to takeover others while driving and cross lane . It is very safe compare to the small street,he added . When we were about to finish conversing he also told me the women are beautiful and neat ,i can't wait to visit mizoram in the near future😂

I am from this city in Mizoram and i honestly have to look for the horn button sometimes because i rarely have to use it on my bike. Also, most horns you hear will be half-horns, like people would only press lightly on the button. It is seriously embarassing to accidentally press the horn full-on loudly.
Now i have been in mizoram as a cement mistiry from Assam.. People from mizoram are very good and well manner.. They treat all the other people as same. They will give you food to eat and cloth to wear in time you need
