    Such a beautiful piece of music. The pervasive melancholic air and the delicate fluttering of the Nightingle's wings is romantic pianism at its best. Lovely performance.

    A haunting and tender selection. There's really a lot going on here. I come to understand the piece better and better, each time I listen to it, and I've heard the de Larrocha version over and over. The camera work is beautiful, and of the highest quality. Bravo, Mr. Grosvenor !

    I played through this piece yesterday for the first time in years and it quickly reminded me why I hadn't been near it in a long time. So densely textured and nuanced with quite some considerable technical difficulty ! So I thought I'd listen to something decent, and Benjamin's was the first to show up. Just magnificent.

    Beautiful! Your ability to 'prolong' a single piano tone to let it sing, the multi-colour balance you're able to realize so that we hear each single little 'counter voice' and the beautifully balanced chords show you are out of the normal. This is the first piece I hear from you, I'm enthusiast!

    Such a beautiful piece. There's something hypnotic about its subtlety melancholy. I am learning it for a piano summer school and your interpretation is such an inspiration to work on the technical difficulties to reach the soul of this music. I saw your latest QEH concert, which was wonderful. When are you coming back to Saffron Hall.

    I still prefer the rendition by Alicia de Larrocha, but I have to say that this is a very, very close second. Among all the great pianists of the last half century or more, I don't think any have presented this jewel quite so sensitively. The actual title Granados gave to the piece is Quejas, o la Maja y el ruisenor, and that first word is a little difficult to translate. IMHO it should be thought of as a lamentation, a whispered groaning of the spirit. Mr Grosvenor very well conveys that with an achingly delicate suspiration from the piano.

    Perhaps lacking in freedom and abandon associated with the Latin temperament . But there is no doubt he is a genius when it comes to articulation and subtle dynamics and voicings. The piano and recording are outstanding here!

    Cold interpretation, you most have Spanish or Latin blood to feel it

    • @donaldwright6617
      @donaldwright6617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Are you sure you're not judging by appearance and not by sound? Would you rather watch someone play who stirs with their elbows, flails with their arms, and lifts their wrists as if they imagine they're the "Dying Swan," while meanwhile indulging in lurid and disgusting facial expressions? I'd rather hear someone like Benjamin whose playing is multidimensional, as this is.

    • @yosserc
      @yosserc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nonsense! It's a beautiful performance. To interpret art is a cold and calculating business and it's generally the lesser artists who pretend to emote whilst they're doing it. A real artist like Grosvenor, who has nothing to prove, eschews all that showbusiness. He will keep all that stuff for practice.

    • @esterleng860
      @esterleng860 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty insensitive to say that it’s a requirement that one needs to have Spanish/Latin blood in order to play in a way that pleases you.

  • @elenakruchinina5400

    Quite rough.. It requires a good polish. Some notes are missing, some embellishments lack quality, shaping and rhythm are not refined.

  • @johngarcia179
    @johngarcia179 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Fine but It would've been better if you'd felt the music much more. There are many things that require body movement so as to get into the piece and do rythm changes to make it more passional and appealing. However, it's obvious you're a great pianist, congrats! Regards from Spain
