The main issue by this point is that so many characters that have died and come back that you're always waiting for a character to come back and expecting any new characters just to die
That's my personal biggest gripe with Supernatural. I hated how Gabriel died the last time, when Crowley died the scene didn't fully hit me until I was halfway through the next season and I realized he probably wouldn't come back, and Dean's final death made me mad because I didn't think they'd actually kill him off, even with it being the finale
Agreed. In some cases they stress the point that they're dead, they can't come back, yet they themselves have come back so many times that they can definitely bring back Charlie or Bob or Cas.
@@janellehuneke8049 I remember watching an episode after Crowley's death in which Rowena's trying to bring her son back, and Sam and Dean are like, "You can't bring him back. You have to move on. When almost every single season, Sam and Dean bring each other back from the dead. I was also really irritated when Gabriel died again. I really like him, and they brought him back for maybe 3 or 5 episodes and then killed him again. It feels pointless, and only for shock value, when they kill people off so much. With all of Cas' glorious deaths, they'd try to kill him off time and time again and every time, they'd play it like it's so tragic. then he comes back a few episodes later and then immediately leaves the bunker for multiple episodes because they apparently can't just have Cas there, and just hanging around for once. The end of the show just feels so hollow because once again, nobody around them matters. They end the show with just the two of them. All of their friends are dead. And then Dean's death was kinda dumb as well.
yeah mostly how it was done, we see the effort, but no sincerity at all, starting when the angel accept him as the new god, but he can't do shit, he try to help people, but only to be "acting like god" because he don't give a shit and with Jack, playing the victim card like most bad people do
Yeah, i mean.... this is Lucifer we are talking about here. LUCIFER, THE LITERAL EMBODIMENT OF EVIL AND THE ANTITHESIS FOR.... well, GOD. Reedeming lucifer (in my opinion) is a bad idea, whether you believe in its existence or not, lucifer is the original bad guy. He is evil, period. People trying to justify his actions is just, well, its deflating. Anyways, Mark Pellegrino killed it. He is the original Homelander, before Eric Kripke decided to direct the boys.
michael leaving a part of him in Dean could actually be a lore expansion. the season sam was possessed by gadriel, after gad leaves and cas tries to heal sam he said that there was still remnants of gad's grace in sam.
I don't like how the show killed Dean. Dean always said he'd die on a hunt and overall it just felt kinda depressing that he believed it. He had a normal life when Sam was gone, I wish the show proved Dean wrong. This is like a suicide victim saying no one would care then that exact thing happening, no one wants that to be the case. Sam and Dean deserved a happy ending. You can argue what we got was a happy ending but was it? They fought for Earth, not heaven. I think how I'm writing is a bit weird but I just dislike how dean dies in the end.
I think Jensen didn't even like how they handled Dean's death, but it's over and done with. Made me cry like a baby even if it wasn't the best ending. I'm on a 1-5 season rewatch, and I think they went full-circle on the fact that Dean said he would hunt until the day he died, plus he was always kind of suicidal, especially after Season 2. They both deserved happy endings, but the showrunners weren't going to do that because a certain audience (Destiel shippers) wouldn't be pleased had Dean married a woman and had a family of his own like Sam did. That's why I think they did it the way they did. Edit: And this isn't to drag Destiel shippers, but there's no denying that there would be anger. I feel like a lot of the ending had to do with C*vid and rushing an ending (like wtf was that low-budget wig on Sam??) and also the two sides of the fandom.
@@enexius67 I feel like dean could've been the cool uncle for sam's children, and what he's doing after the events could be kept vague then they could imply something with Dean and Castiel, something for people to imagine.
They didn’t kill him thiigh. U see him standing at end with dead Sam. It takes way the fact he “died”. It didn’t mean anything when u just see him again and see him brought back for a cheap spin-off cameo.
Everything in these seasons is hit and miss. Some amazing episodes and plotlines but scattered and disjointed feeling. Despite everything the ending gets me emotional because of my attachment to the characters
I always just figured that Chuck becoming an antagonist was the curtain actually lifting; like he was always like this, even his appearances in Season 11, but he was acting. He admitted to pretending being a prophet, why not a more repentant persona in general?
@@jivy1022 I mean when one of your commandments is "Worship me and only me, tear down false idols".. Petty child is not a big stretch lol. It's kinda fantastic.
Yeah my read on Chuck retrospectively in season 11 is that he had no remorse for locking Amara away. He plays drama queen having Metatron take down his biography. Which you could see as "I want to leave something behind now that my time is up" but.. If everything dies with him then... it seems more like a vanity project. You'd also think he'd have stepped in when the mark re-entered the global knowledge, but only shows up after it's gone. It's almost like the situation was set up specifically to manipulate Amara. As if all the events of 11 are the "gaslight my sister into apologizing to me for what I did to her" master plan. Right up to the random person who meets Amara in the garden.
@@PAXch. It's not Christian hate o.o. Chuck is a fictional character. That would be like calling someone racist because they dislike orcs in LotR without knowing how they treat people in person. Disliking Chuck does not equal disliking God in our universe.
I think my take away after watching this is that, where the show had been steadily eroding my good will, it had managed to retain far more of yours. And honestly, I'm happy for you. Genuinely. I wish I could still look at a show that was at some point my absolute favorite with fondness instead of utter exhaustion and disdain. Where we are in absolute agreement is that this era has a plethora of legitimately great Monster of the Week episodes though! ^_^
I'd love to see the cast, crew, or whomever was in charge talk about the reasons and choices to end the show. I know both Jensen, Jared, and the fans wanted to keep the series going, but I feel the writers, show runner, and Studio wanted to end it. The announcement of the show ending came as a real shocker but the end was really near when covid disrupted everything, and everyone pretty much gave up and moved on (and rightfully so, that whole period sucked).
They kept saying that Jared, Jensen agreed to end it. But seeing how the CW is canceling shows and not having enough money to do anything...it makes sense why they were ready to shut it down.
The viewership had dropped a lot since early years. It wouldn’t have kept going if they didn’t decide to end it. Also why run a show totally into the dirt? It wasn’t going to be as good anymore. Shows that go on and on get bad. Why would u wanna see it go for 20 years but the last 4/5 years are horrible
@@mikeherrera5302 Ssshh don't let the One Piece fans hear that.. Though seriously, I'll take season 15's ending over the show being cancelled on a season like 8-10. A cliffhanger that never pays off cause the wallets ran dry is a nightmare. Ending like Lost or GoT though? (Or Red vs Blue for the internet inclined out there) Even worse. It was the right call to end it while having a concept of how to, instead blowing that idea and trying to keep going hoping you find another one before the network's guillotine falls upon you.
It was power creep in the writing. Sam and dean went from just hunting monsters, to demons, to powerful demons like Azazel, to working with and against angels, to stopping the apocalypse, to fighting Lucifer, Leviathans, and concepts like God and Nothing. After a certain point the writers couldn't just put Sam and Dean into monster of the week type scenarios and keep the show interesting, and they couldn't do long term plot archs that were lesser than the Croatoan virus, or the apocalypse, or fighting Amara. It just wouldn't work. They went so far up in power that there was either ending it, or going downwards.
When it comes to the possession of Michael, in The Song Remains the Same, Michael says the vessel concept is a bloodline (at least for Michael and Lucifer), "True vessel but not my only one." He also mentions not leaving the vessel as a "drooling mess" after he got done wearing Dean. There have been other examples of angels returning to prior human vessels that were still around, but I understand the argument that they were normal angels and not archangels. Gabriel though, I believe he created a brand new vessel, changing his identity, so he could hide out on earth from his family, avoiding the upcoming apocalypse (Michael vs Lucifer).
This retrospective series was very enjoyable to watch through, a lot of nostalgia but I'm still a little hurt that you didn't go more in depth of godstiel, one of my favorite character experimentations in the entire show
To me it felt like Mary not clicking was an intentional feeling in order to show how disconnected she feels cause later on she becomes a fav for me personally
I loved how Mary come back, how she was what LOVE knew Dean needed. Dean needed to heal that wound so he could start to really dive deep into himself and fully actualize himself. Michael was his dark mirror, knowing what Dean really wanted and taunting him with it. Dean had to face Michael to fully be himself. And all the hermetical clues and lore that was woven into the later seasons is just *chef's kiss*. They practically painted God as the Demiurge which was so so good.
aaand I'm crying. Fantastic video. Loved the section about titlecards, lol. You made me think a bit more favorably about these last few seasons, I thank you.
Honestly I'd watch just about anything that you put out about this show. Even if you broke it down season by season or episode by episode. I've been watching this show since before season 3 came out and while I wasn't a kid when I started watching, I was young enough that I still feel like I grew up watching this show and that it's a part of me, for better or worse lol. This show has such a special place in heart and always will so now that it's over I am really enjoying that it's getting this level of attention from a channel. So yeah, keep them coming and I'll be watching!
i completely feel you, i started watching when i was 12 now i am 24 and just watched the last episode of season 15 (had a huge break of like 5 years after season 7 and when i heared it will finally be finished i took my time and watched it slowly) i even had tears in my eyes at the last time i heard carry on my wayward son and i really want to watch the first 5 season with my girlfriend in the next year because she enver seen it
Was eagerly awaiting this man seen them all except this one twice. Wonder what you'll do next man you seem like a good video essayer. Thanks for covering a show I loved even if I feel the same way you do
The apocalypse as depicted in S5 is inspired by the chapter Revelations of the NT, which only appears in the bible. So the apocalypse is only Christian.
Holy shit you're underrated. This was so fun to watch as someone who faded out of the fandom around season 7. This whole sequence of videos was great, but I especially loved the title card breakdown! Super important journalism
The season 15 episode "Atomic Monsters" defines the purpose of the season as a whole, particularly the exchange between Chuck and Becky. Chuck for all intents and purposes serves the metaphorical role of the writers, directors, creator and just general individuals with power over the scripts, the story. Becky stands in for the fans, sometimes chaotic (as seen in the past) but ultimately well intendtioned and in love with these characters and this universe. Chuck wants to end things in poetic tragedy while Becky wants the boys to finally find happiness after all their struggles. And Becky, being a fan, critiques his direction for the story. Chuck, the creative team, becomes frustrated with said critique and ultimately exerts his power over said story despite Becky's pleas. The entire season is a meta commentary on the creative process, Chuck - ie the writers - is unhinged. And therefore any seeming cohesion issues can be attributed to it. He can do whatever he wants. Is it lazy writing? Maybe. But its pre-established. And personally, focusing an entire episode on how frustrated Chuck is is the near perfect way of doing so. It's his domain, he is exerting his power over it, sense be damned. And the entire season is the Winchesters battle with breaking free of him - breaking free of the constant struggle the writers have put them through. It's the characters just trying to find their own agency outside of writers, outside of fans, outside of critics. And it's a beautiful concept. Supernatural has always been at its best when being meta and so making its final season one big allegory that isn't shy about being one is... brilliant I think. I don't have issue with Chuck's heel turn, especially with how fascinated he seemed with being the man behind the curtain watching and manipulating the narrative in the final scenes of "Swan Song' and "Fan Fiction." It also better explains how he was able to foretell what would happen while pretending to be a profit, because he is literally the one controlling the story, something season 11 does not address at all. I think it fits fairly well as a plot twist in retrospect. As you can probably tell by this point, I love season 15. As a once aspiring writer, who has partaken in studying the craft as well as being a part of discussion groups pertaining to it, it lands fairly well. It isn't perfect, nothing is. There are moments that feel out of place even with knowing about Chuck being pure chaos, creative decisions being suspect at best in our modern culture, there are moments that feel too fan-service centered and poorly weaved (although I agree, the fan service isn't overbearing even if there are moments that could have used it), and from the final half of episode 19 all the way through the finale I believe they fumbled incredibly as so many fans do. But overall I feel it's a success, and, dare I say I find it better then season 5 as a send off. It's one of my favorites. Edit: This video shockingly summed up almost all of my praises/criticisms of season 15 and the series finale in-particular extremely well. Just wanted to give her a shoutout for an excellent deconstruction. th-cam.com/video/rHEitiHTBeQ/w-d-xo.html
I want to thank you so much for making this video. I’m such a huge fan of seasons 12-15 and this is such a great articulation as to why. Even though I acknowledge Seasons 1-5 are the best seasons in terms of quality, seasons 11-15 are just so wacky and fun; they are my favourites.
@@JayTheZoomsteror in general how you'd do the show after S5. Like how many seasons would you do it ideally? What would they be about? Me personally I think 9 or 10 seasons tops
I loved the Men of Letters storyline. I wish that instead of the prequal that they went with, a Men of Letters TV show would have been made. Maybe an ancestor who lived in the Victorian age.
I honestly just kind of stumbled across these videos, but I've got to admit they're the only review videos I've actually watched all the way through or been interested in. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these, I've actually been waiting for this video to come out for a little while now. It was really interesting, and probably one of the few videos of this length I've bothered sitting through. Good work 💕
I was a huge fan of this show in high shcool but ended up dropping it after season 12, your vids definitely have convinced me to go back and watch the series again and finish it in full. I'll see you all in april o7
56:19 the thing with purgatory is, sure there were ways to get to purgatory, but crowley and castiel were looking for a way that would allow them to take/absorb the souls there and not just get phisically there. It still works for me.
Covid basically killed any chance of character returns in the final episode unfortunately but I gotta admit I love the finale episode because it’s just about Sam and Dean, i always thought it would end (post season 5 anyway) with both boys in heaven. That just fit to me because we watched them come back to life so many times and it just wasn’t natural.
I really enjoyed these retrospective videos, great work! I'd definitely watch Doctor Who retrospective videos, if you ever make them. It became my fav tv show for many years when I started binging it during a difficult time in my life (like you with supernatural).
I think from all the stuff that's come out after the finale, Covid really fucked up the final season in what they could or couldn't do. I believe they wanted more people to be in the heaven scenes but couldn't because of filming regulations the production was under. Idk, that's what I've heard and read.
40:35 The 15. season title card is the empty exploding! How could you miss that? They showed it when Jack was exploding. 56:24 Wasn't Lucifer said to be Gods favorite, not first born?
Both my hubby and I started watching Supernatural long before we met each other and we finally finished watching Supernatural last night. Season 14 and 15 became too predictable for me. And I would often tell my hubby that (character) seems off. And it would turn out that said character would be the villain of the episode. I also feel that a lot of the things Sam and Dean would say or do were out of character for them. It was just weird. Lucifer was getting annoying. He was becoming like the little sound toy you cant turn off. Then he was killed, then they brought him back. I was happy it wasn't for longer than an episode. When Micheal was first introduced they made Michael seem just as powerful as God, by season 15, he seemed like just another angel. Then there is the pothole of death. They didn't tell or show of another Death being made. With no death, how are reapers reaping? I wish even in conversation told us that another reaper was made, somehow. Also, making God was weird to me. They spoke about balance. If God was evil, did that make Amara good? I suppose it did when she tried to show him the beauty of his creation. But the amount of destruction God made, where was the balance of creation? I thought Amara was the one to destroy and he created. Anyway, my favourite season is 5. Its just sooo good. Season 7 was the worst for me. The Laviathans just didn't do it for me. When I watch Supernatiral again, it will be seasons 1 to 5. I don't know if I can continue after that. But because I love Supernatural, I would probably watch it all again. Because why not. I do however wish Eric Kripke continued to write. But I understand moving on to new projects. Thank you for these videos. It helped me see Supernatural in a different light.
Contemplating my overall thoughts of Supernatural and it just baffles me how big it got, and still is. I mean Season 1 was your ordinary WB teen drama not unlike Dawson’s Creek or 90210, just with an added flavor of ghost hunting. And those shows were influential in their own right but their cultural significance mostly stayed confined to the early 2000s. Supernatural, however, has permanently cemented itself in the zeitgeist for perhaps the rest of the century. Supernatural is associated with almost everything now. Flannel shirts and trench coats are now cosplay; the ‘67 Chevy Impala, considered worthless scrap metal before is now a collectors item, lines of dialogue that are quoted the world over, “ Hey Assbut, Balls, Idgit, Hello Boys, So Get This, Jerk; Bitch,” the list goes on forever. Hell this is the second property to popularize the line, “I’m Batman!” All this from a CW show that was green lit in the aftermath of the character drama boom made possible by Lost’s popularity. There were highs and lows, and there were deep dark chasms that sucked out all joy in the world, but it, and Eric Kripke, left their impact on the world. And also Jared and Jensen. Most actors would kill for a career defining character, and i don’t think they’ll be walking away from Sam and Dean for, say the rest of their lives. Alright, out of thoughts. Everyone go on with your lives, nothing to see here!
To me, the season 15 title card resembles the opening of the gates of hell (like in the episode Lilith was killed, her blood made a similar symbol on the ground, that became the gate of Lucifer).
i stopped watching supernatural around season 9, and I barely remember anything past swan song - but these videos are making me want to watch some of the highlights of the later seasons! cool retrospective.
so season 16 lets redeem kevin here's what we do (kevin goes off into nature and lets go of his attachment and becomes celestial spirit of nature instead of becoming a vengeful ghost. he is no longer human per say but he is about balance and the beauty of nature of life and how important it is not to waste it)
I‘d love to see a doctor who breakdown! ( maybe a Sherlock one too to complete the trio?) But with that out of the way: I absolutely loved your retrospective videos !!💜💜 I really love watching these kind of videos when drawing, cleaning or just for fun. And honestly you changed my view on the show. Over the past few years I’ve kind of gotten more bitter over how bad some decision were, especially with female characters. But I feel like this awakened my nostalgia again and made me appreciate the overall arcs and positives more. I still won’t continue watching (I think I stopped after season 10?) but this was all I needed to see and then with analysis already?! Ugh, just thanks! Sry this has gotten so long but I just wanted to express my gratitude and wish you the best for your TH-cam Chanel and overall life 🫶🏻
Same, imo this season is beautifully unpredictable in the best way and the final twist in the season finale comes out of the blue but if we look back it has been foreshadowed all along because so many characters in the show go on about how unforgiving and cruel God is but when he was onscreen he was just a whacky dude until then.
Personally, I don’t think any season of Supernatural is overall bad, at least not when it focuses on the arc of the season, but the monster of the week episodes drag otherwise good seasons down. The later seasons actually have better monster of the week episodes, which is why I think the last 3-5 seasons are better than the previous 5 seasons, not counting the original 5 seasons. I wouldn’t say they’re worse since they add alot of stuff I actually like, but they’re not better than the first 5 seasons either. Honestly, each season adds something to the lore I like, like Purgatory or the Darkness being a better person than God himself, but they’re not better than the first 5 seasons
Thanks for doing this retrospective series! I think a cool video would be going over plot threads that were left open ended and/or resolved in a way that was clearly unintended (with a different show runner that didn't have the same vision)
I'd like to see you cover an analysis for Dean, Sam, and Castiel's characters. And then a video about Destiel would also be interesting. There’s already videos about Destiel, of course, but it'd be interesting to hear your viewpoint.
I was recently in the hospital for like 2 weeks and rewatched almost the entire show while I was there. I started at 12-15 cuz I didn't know I was going to be in there as long as I was and those are the 1's I've rewatched the least some not at all. I was kinda surprised too how much I enjoyed them on a rewatch. On the original airing I feel like I didn't enjoy it as much but there's a lot of good episodes and arcs in there. I really love Jack, his character is very interesting to watch and I really felt for him. Watching him try to learn to control his powers that he doesn't understand with emotions that are confusing to him. Oh my heart. I also love what they did with Rowena. Her character development and arc was also really cool I felt like. Really enjoying these videos and it's cool that this last 1 is in a chunk I unintentionally watched in the same chunk lol 🧡🦇
@@JayTheZoomster I got a long road ahead I got the rarest form of kidney disease known to man so I'm at home now but I'll be back and forth for some time unfortunately. But since and your reviews helped me get thru the last stint so keep doing what you do you never know the positive impact you could be having on the ppl who watch best of luck on your channel and thank you for the well wishes its appreciated 😸✌ 🧡🦇
I stopped watching around the beginning of season 14 and this video has convinced me to rewatch the entire series. I’m 6 episodes in and I’m actually enjoying myself a lot. Thanks. P.s. you should definitely do Doctor Who.
I wanna add to the 'reapers getting possessed by demons' thing. It is important to note that the only time we see this done is with a Prince of Hell. We see the princes overpowering angels all the time. Like Dagon vs Castiel. So Azazel possessing Tessa wasn't totally as outrageous. Also Crowley went into Sam that one time when he was possessed by Gadreel. Maybe I'm just covering for bad writing idk, but it makes sense to me.
Also note, Azazel was only allowed to possess Reaper Tessa after the demon deal was struck between him and John. And from season 2, we know that Demons can go beyond their limits to a degree when striking a deal. That's my thought process though.
Thanks for all the work making these vids of my fav show that was a big part of my life since season one that came out when I was 15 so half my life was spent watching it lol 😎🤟🙏🙏🙏👏
I myself like wise too you Jaythezoomster, share a personal love for this show....my Grandmother introduced me too this show, grew up watching these with her, here and there on cable television while new episodes aired. I still tear up almost every time when Castiel final scene plays.
this is definitely the most frustrating era of the show for me. the writing in the final season is what ruins the show for me (and Supernatural itself is fantastic but the decisions the writers ended up making made no sense and it honestly really infuriates me to know that that was how they chose to honor the show during its final run). none of these final 4 seasons really feel like they do the show any justice… with how many times all of these episodes go from good to okay to bad in a matter of 2 or 3 episodes is just very messy. and Jack is a character that i absolutely adore but unfortunately he doesn’t save seasons 13-15… they tend to do so much yet so little at the same time…and despite Sam being my favorite character, Dean was such a lovable character and the writers did Jensen SO DIRTY by making him act totally out of character after season 12…imo the cast deserved better and so did the fans.
They did sam fucking dirty in the dabb era made him a wife abused by her husband(dean) whatever happened to sam having a power complex or him being taken away from the kids table?
@@pillowboy7995 i honestly have no idea, i personally blame the writers… but i personally feel bad for the actors because deserved better during this time. the series finale does indeed have its problems but for the most part im at peace with the ending.
@@colinshea2905 I was fine with deans death despite it's problems but sam reverting back to the life he wanted back in season 1 pissed me off. Dabb screwed the show six ways from sunday
One thing I'm realizing is that despite the fact that I stopped somewhere during season 7 or 8, is that when watching this video and the dark ages video, I will occasionally remember something you mention in the episodes. So I think what happened is that I would still catch an episode once in awhile. I only remember actively checking in on the show twice, and that was the episode when Dean meets Kane for the first time, and an episode with Crowley bickering with some lady. The other vague memories you give me must be just random times my mom or somebody had it on while I was there.
This was really well done man. Congrats on finishing your series of reviews. I see now why you said we had very "different opinions" of these seasons. I can definitely see where you are coming from when it comes to unique and different ideas in these seasons. While I definitely feel they were alot better in concept than they were in execution, they tried ... they tried lol. I'll honestly never forgive the Gabrielle retcon. Great points about the retcon's from Carver era. I honestly can't remember those seasons at all so I'm interested what I will find when I start reviewing those next. Gabrielle's retcon was just ... so pointless to me. Because in the end, it ended the exact same way. It also unintentionally damages one of the best moments (and there are tons of them) from Season 5. At least we agree for the most part on S15. Unity was great, Despair was ... not so much to me. Either way, I really think this was a great video! Congrats again. I know I mentioned it when you featured some of my Kim Manner's video, but I was in London at the time and totally forgot to follow up. If you were ever up for a collab video / discussion, I would absolutely be up for it. Like my videos with Jade, having opposing but open minds always leads to a great conversation!
It's refreshing to hear someone talk about 12-15 with an emotion other than hate. I personally recognize they are an inconsistent and at times incoherent mess but overall I found these seasons to be just fun more often than not. It definitely doesn't live up to the high standard set by 1-5 or 11 but I found my enjoyment of it was a lot more than 6-10. Glad to know other people enjoy this era as well.
I think my biggest beef was how awful some elements of the finale seasons were after 11. Like, I was so surprised the Apocalypse angels would put Adam in a room with Mary that they could easily escape, like, the ONLY room he could escape. It seemed like a trick, and it wasn't, and I was absolutely devasted that the villains would be that stupid. Similarly, the show becomes all about the "dads" of the show raising their mini-god, while Chuck becomes a homicidal fanboy after a season where he was willing to "kill" himself or trap himself for eternity - its like, where's his love for creation he was weeping to Amara about? Lol.
Rewatching this video for the second time since TH-cam is lacking in some nicely edited Supernatural video reviews, but huge agree, you should cover Doctor Who especially with everything that's going down this year for the series
Just speaking to how Michael left a piece of himself in dean, it has been stated before that an angel will leave traces in a hosts body and they have used it in the past to track angels such as the one who possessed sam after the trials
Really great coverage my man. I'm a huge Supernatural fan myself. It's my 2nd favorite franchise just behind Star Wars. Been watching since season 2. Fell in love instantly and stayed on top of it ever since. Not too impressed with the Winchesters... it's too watered down and silly. That's about all I can say about it without getting too controversial. Anyway, love what you're doing my friend. Hope to see many more videos come from your channel. Can't wait to see what other types of ideas you have.
I thought the twist that because Crowley made Lucifers vessel to be a trap so much so that it ended up being the perfect vessel for him is kind of neat. Like, Crowley just ended up setting himself up for failure.
Stuck in the middle with you, the fact that Ramiel gave Crowley a choice and he chose to stay actually made him dying to trap Lucifer kinda make sense. Still hella sad.
I'm watching the entire series again and I'm in season 13. I'm liking it this time around. - really like Rowena now. - really liked the idea of Sam becoming a leader in season 12 but that was short lived. They should have played more around that, along with him using spells. - I like that Sam and Dean don't fight and are mostly close.
I like to imagine death survived deans attempt at killing him. He hid for a few seasons until the end where god loses his powers. After a few years when chuck gets old death comes to his door, they talk and drink some cups of tea and god/chuck with death actually reaping him as he said he would.
47:05 you forgot to mention a very stupid thing about it, the episode where nick asks mary to release the demon who killed his family, so he can kill him, and mary refuses. why would she do that? if it's about the fact you have to get someone for the demon to possess than just grab a corpse. it's not like they're strangers to grave desecration
Now let's hear your thoughts on The Winchesters, it's first season is almost done. Personally i'm loving it so far and it feels good to be getting new stories in the SPN universe with cool connections to the original series.
I remember during 2020 stuck In the house due to Covid I decided to finally give this show a chance not knowing the show was ending that year sooo I binge watch all of it averaging a season a week but season 12 man idk what it was but it took me nearly 2 months to finish it imo it didn’t feel like anything I’ve watched wasn’t until the finale when I felt the vibe of the show again . Long story short I manage to catch up a day before the final episodes came out and it was a ride indeed 😞😞😞
How is this for an episode idea: how would you have ENDED the show? Does GOD get a different ending? The boys? Lucifer? Anything at all... how would you have wanted to send off the characters??
I would love to see you rank every episode from worst to best. I wouldn't expect you to re-watch the series for that so you wouldn't have to go into extreme detail. You could alternatively rank every season from worst 2 best if the other idea is too time consuming or just too difficult to decide. I loved the retrospective series thank you!
@40:45 I thought the title card for S15 was trying to do something with the Empty? Like how we see Terminator Lucifer and he’s all black and red & this is kind of like a void.
So…we’re kinda on opposing sides as far as the plot line with nick goes. Did it drag on? Absolutely. But jack killing nick JUST as Lucifer is about to be back was atrocious. It was just so convenient. I wasn’t watching the show when it first came out, or when it was even still airing, but I have a suspicion they had Lucifer and nick in the trailers just to get people to watch, just for clickbait essentially. And considering how easy it was the second jack felt a presence in the force…it was just wasted potential because they wanted to keep viewers attention. It would’ve been nice if that ACTUALLY lead somewhere. But it didn’t. It just wasted my time.
I personally don’t hate Mary, she died for 33 years and came back to life to find everything she ever wanted gone to hell and never coming back, her husband’s dead, her kids were hunters and the normal life she wanted was gone, along with needing to adjust to a world that moved on without her and getting used to the modern era and all the new things that happened or were made since she died. Even her working for the BMoL isn’t that bad, since Sam was working with them too, so why are people blaming Mary and saying she’s a bad person if Sam’s doing the same thing, and he was the one tortured? Sam and Dean really needed to understand that Mary isn’t the perfect mom or person they thought she was, she’s human and makes mistakes, but they’ve made bigger, nearly world ending mistakes, and they get angry she’s working with the Brits? They’ve worked with demons and Lucifer himself, literally as recent as the previous season Edit: I understand wanting more in season 15, but COVID happened and they couldn’t do their original ending, they wanted to bring everyone who died back to the Roadhouse in Heaven, but they couldn’t because of quarantine and just how hard it would have been with the restrictions of COVID, which is understandable
57:42 Angels do leave parts of them selves behind when they leave their vessel this is brought up in season 9 when gadrial was kicked out of Sam's body and that piece specifically containing grace and that there's a way to extract it And now another problem I have with this is that was completely forgotten about in season 14 when Jack is dying yes they find some archangel grace that belonged to Gabriel but it didn't work for some reason I don't know why but anyway back to what I was talking about when Michael leaves dean's body there should in theory have been some archangel grace still inside of Dean and we also know Jack takes Michael grace towards the end of the season and he's got his powers back so that they could of just extracted the leftover grace that Michael left behind when he first left dean's body
This is my favorite show ever as well!!!! I guess I have no taste either, but what makes you love a show is the depth and what it really means, even tho the show it’s about all Supernatural events which I also love, is the love these two brothers have for each other❤️ I go to bed every night watching Supernatural. I’m lame but it gives me peace.
The Michael leaving a part of himself on Dean situation might not be about rules at all, but rather practice. In Apocalypse World, Angels have been out and about for a while and Michael would have had time to experiment and get used to all the aspects of angel possession.
Someone has probably said this already but i think the season 15 title card is suppose to be the Big Empty or whatever the name of the the thing that superhelled Cas is
I'd like to see you rank all opening road so fars. The ones they sing in every first episode. I'd feel like I'll enjoy watching it just like the way I did with your title card ranking.
Ha, this is why I stopped watching after Season 6. I knew something was wrong when the season didnt start with “The road so far” recap. Also it looked brighter, something was off. But the worst thing, they broke the promise of “no chick flick moments” and Gamble made all this stupid drama between Sam and Dean, as well as assassinating Cas’s character. My eyes havent been tainted by things that cant be unwatched. For me, Supernatural is only and always just the 5 seasons it was intended to be. No fan fiction for me.
the thing that bothers me most is how dean just constantly goes back and forth from hating jack to being considered his father figure definitely feel like jack could have been used better. just seems like his arc from devil baby to God was rushed. even with the time crunches, i personally feel like they could have done better that being said i absolutely adore jack and i think alex was a great addition to the cast
After season 5 the show never reaches the same heights. Its no masterpiece but it is pure fun. I see it as beautiful fanfiction and im glad it exists. Also mick is an amazing character
Yes please talk about Destiel. I'd love to hear a reasonable take, even if my own take is a wee bit skewed lol. It's been v easy to get caught by extreme (in BOTH ways) takes.
I feel like Season 15 was just them doing every idea that they ever read on the internet. I think they wanted to give everyone a taste of whatever ending they wanted. Then they wrapped it up with them going to heaven, which I think everyone could get behind.
I wish they would've done what they wanted, I absolutely despise how they handled it. It's no doubt that a certain group in the fandom pushed for THEIR ending, but were still upset and even went as far as threatening, harrassing, and doxxing the Ackles and Padalecki's. I agree with the heaven ending, I wish they could've had Ellen, Ash, and Jo outside the Roadhouse with Bobby greeting Dean, or having a proper reunion between the dead and loved characters, but C*vid ruined it. This fandom has become so hostile since the finale, it's very sad.
I was upset about Mick. Sam needed more friends.
Honestly this is a problem with Everything that's produced 😭
Honestly I think that it's a good thing Lucifer wasn't redeemed despite what most people say.
It's internet atheists trying to be edgy by desiring satan's redemption in order to piss off the Christians. They're still stuck in 2010.
yeah mostly how it was done, we see the effort, but no sincerity at all, starting when the angel accept him as the new god, but he can't do shit, he try to help people, but only to be "acting like god" because he don't give a shit and with Jack, playing the victim card like most bad people do
Yeah, i mean.... this is Lucifer we are talking about here.
I get that completely but I still think his death was phenomenally acted, hit me hard
Totally agree with you about Dean's death
Despite everything the ending gets me emotional because of my attachment to the characters
iooooii
Mostly miss.
We all know it should have ended in season 5
I always just figured that Chuck becoming an antagonist was the curtain actually lifting; like he was always like this, even his appearances in Season 11, but he was acting. He admitted to pretending being a prophet, why not a more repentant persona in general?
They made God into a petty child. His switch to antagonist is literally just him having a tantrum. Bootleg PG joeffry from game of thrones
@@GizzakOlden Strange thing to say really, justifying bad writing with Christian hate is strange.
FlyingMonkies325 is spot on!
Was waiting for this video eagerly.. thank you!
Gabriel creates a vessel in the image of loki
@@unropednope4644 wrong, the wiki said, he's also possessing a man.
This retrospective series was very enjoyable to watch through, a lot of nostalgia but I'm still a little hurt that you didn't go more in depth of godstiel, one of my favorite character experimentations in the entire show
I really liked that arc it should had lasted longer to me
To me it felt like Mary not clicking was an intentional feeling in order to show how disconnected she feels cause later on she becomes a fav for me personally
i always interpreted the season 5 title card as Sam's need for demon blood
To sure
37:39 the whole season hinges on sam drinking demons blood
The plot holes are crazy in the dabb era I can find at least 1 every episode far more than carver era
So yeah, keep them coming and I'll be watching!
i completely feel you, i started watching when i was 12 now i am 24 and just watched the last episode of season 15 (had a huge break of like 5 years after season 7 and when i heared it will finally be finished i took my time and watched it slowly)
i even had tears in my eyes at the last time i heard carry on my wayward son and i really want to watch the first 5 season with my girlfriend in the next year because she enver seen it
Quite literally same, I'm mid binge of his supernatural content now 🤣
Why didn't Jack get rid of monsters?
He brought everyone back and decided to keep monsters around, he doesn't need to keep Chuck's obsessions in.
Because he sucks, worst character, ruined the show.
Excited (and a bit 😔) that this retrospective has come to a close. Great job bro and thanks for sharing the show with me!
Was eagerly awaiting this man seen them all except this one twice. Wonder what you'll do next man you seem like a good video essayer. Thanks for covering a show I loved even if I feel the same way you do
"Barack Obama's poll numbers dropped drastically following the 2009-2010 Judaeo-Christian apocalypse"
The apocalypse as depicted in S5 is inspired by the chapter Revelations of the NT, which only appears in the bible. So the apocalypse is only Christian.
Coincidentally, a completely normal phrase to be uttered within the world of Supernatural
Season 15 was so meta, I was in awe.
I want to thank you so much for making this video. I’m such a huge fan of seasons 12-15 and this is such a great articulation as to why. Even though I acknowledge Seasons 1-5 are the best seasons in terms of quality, seasons 11-15 are just so wacky and fun; they are my favourites.
have you considered a "how i'd do s15" type beat? could be interesting
That's a great idea!
Now that's a great idea.
Yes!!! That's actually a really cool idea
Most fans hates it. Prolly wouldn’t have gone far.
Good work 💕
Man your Supernatural retrospectives were great I loved them and if you do a doctor who I’d watch it plenty!
One might say it was even…supernatural
I really enjoyed these retrospective videos, great work! I'd definitely watch Doctor Who retrospective videos, if you ever make them.
It became my fav tv show for many years when I started binging it during a difficult time in my life (like you with supernatural).
I think from all the stuff that's come out after the finale, Covid really fucked up the final season in what they could or couldn't do. I believe they wanted more people to be in the heaven scenes but couldn't because of filming regulations the production was under. Idk, that's what I've heard and read.
Even if they got a chance to make the finale the way they wanted to it probably would had been bad to me
40:35 The 15. season title card is the empty exploding! How could you miss that? They showed it when Jack was exploding.
56:24 Wasn't Lucifer said to be Gods favorite, not first born?
Amara didn't say first born son, she said first son, as in his favorite.
To me, the season 15 title card resembles the opening of the gates of hell (like in the episode Lilith was killed, her blood made a similar symbol on the ground, that became the gate of Lucifer).
i stopped watching supernatural around season 9, and I barely remember anything past swan song - but these videos are making me want to watch some of the highlights of the later seasons! cool retrospective.
the idea of the box is just perfect as a metaphor for mental health and depression like its so good
so season 16 lets redeem kevin here's what we do (kevin goes off into nature and lets go of his attachment and becomes celestial spirit of nature instead of becoming a vengeful ghost. he is no longer human per say but he is about balance and the beauty of nature of life and how important it is not to waste it)
I‘d love to see a doctor who breakdown! ( maybe a Sherlock one too to complete the trio?)
But with that out of the way: I absolutely loved your retrospective videos !!💜💜 I really love watching these kind of videos when drawing, cleaning or just for fun.
Sry this has gotten so long but I just wanted to express my gratitude and wish you the best for your TH-cam Chanel and overall life 🫶🏻
so glad to see Season 14 get some love it is always so hated on and it is honestly one of my favourite seasons
Same, imo this season is beautifully unpredictable in the best way and the final twist in the season finale comes out of the blue but if we look back it has been foreshadowed all along because so many characters in the show go on about how unforgiving and cruel God is but when he was onscreen he was just a whacky dude until then.
That season finale is just something else, definitely a twist
Since I'm rewatching the whole series again I'm in season 12 and im not gonna lie, Im really really liking it.
Really enjoying these videos and it's cool that this last 1 is in a chunk I unintentionally watched in the same chunk lol
🧡🦇
I hope all is well with you!! I really appreciate your comment and I'm so glad you enjoy what I create!
@@JayTheZoomster I got a long road ahead I got the rarest form of kidney disease known to man so I'm at home now but I'll be back and forth for some time unfortunately. But since and your reviews helped me get thru the last stint so keep doing what you do you never know the positive impact you could be having on the ppl who watch best of luck on your channel and thank you for the well wishes its appreciated 😸✌
🧡🦇
Plus Demons don't need permission to enter someone's body. Even Crowley says at some point that they take want they want
Yes totally agree with you the dabb era is such a mess filled with retcon storylines
@@pillowboy7995 i can see that.
I'm glad the show went for 15 seasons, the weakest season of Supernatural is better than most of the s@it being released these days.
@@MasonGrant0704 True that.
Just finished the first 3 yesterday, so this was right on time. Love your content!
Awesome! Thank you!
What I gather from this is that, for you anyway, the memory of _Memory Remains_ does not, in fact, remain
I was waiting for this
I‘ve been looking forward to this!
👏👏👏Just wow incredible retrospective I mostly agreed with you and honestly I just love supernatural and your videos made me very happy!
Real talk Andrew dabb destroyed the series...to prove he was even more of a hack..he destroyed the resident evil series...lol
I’ve been waiting for this
47:05 you forgot to mention a very stupid thing about it, the episode where nick asks mary to release the demon who killed his family, so he can kill him, and mary refuses. why would she do that? if it's about the fact you have to get someone for the demon to possess than just grab a corpse. it's not like they're strangers to grave desecration
"What does this all mean absolutely nothing."lmao Love this guy
If I get to 10k subs this year, I'll rank EVERY episode.
@40:45 I thought the title card for S15 was trying to do something with the Empty? Like how we see Terminator Lucifer and he’s all black and red & this is kind of like a void.
we were robbed of wayward sisters
The ending of the season 14 finale was the coolest in the show and the perfect song to go with it
Yuhuuuuu I was waiting for this
I personally don’t hate Mary, she died for 33 years and came back to life to find everything she ever wanted gone to hell and never coming back, her husband’s dead, her kids were hunters and the normal life she wanted was gone, along with needing to adjust to a world that moved on without her and getting used to the modern era and all the new things that happened or were made since she died. They’ve worked with demons and Lucifer himself, literally as recent as the previous season
Edit: I understand wanting more in season 15, but COVID happened and they couldn’t do their original ending, they wanted to bring everyone who died back to the Roadhouse in Heaven, but they couldn’t because of quarantine and just how hard it would have been with the restrictions of COVID, which is understandable
I guess I have no taste either, but what makes you love a show is the depth and what it really means, even tho the show it’s about all Supernatural events which I also love, is the love these two brothers have for each other❤️
I go to bed every night watching Supernatural. I’m lame but it gives me peace.
The Michael leaving a part of himself on Dean situation might not be about rules at all, but rather practice. In Apocalypse World, Angels have been out and about for a while and Michael would have had time to experiment and get used to all the aspects of angel possession.
Cas got fruit from the tree of life because he read Donatellos mind and saw that that was an ingredient for the spell to open a rift
Aye aye Dean singing the Dukes and Hazards theme song gave me life 💥
Idc what people say about supernatural because to me, it's the greatest series ever
Someone has probably said this already but i think the season 15 title card is suppose to be the Big Empty or whatever the name of the the thing that superhelled Cas is
It's so bizarre that I agree with every favorite episode but half of the worst you listed throughout all 15 seasons were on my favorite list as well
Poomster making an appearance was not on my Season 12-15 Retrospective bucket list, but im glad it happened
No fan fiction for me.
the thing that bothers me most is how dean just constantly goes back and forth from hating jack to being considered his father figure
definitely feel like jack could have been used better. just seems like his arc from devil baby to God was rushed. even with the time crunches, i personally feel like they could have done better
that being said i absolutely adore jack and i think alex was a great addition to the cast
Angels, Demons and Men of Letters nust took over the show...those first five seasons were something special
I've seen other great shows too but the story, characters, concepts and actors make it my favorite show too.
Also, if there is one topic I'd be interested in seeing you talk about more in depth, go with John Winchester. Full character analysis. Have fun!
I think 15s issue was covid. I think if that didn't interfere with production, it would've turned out better
