Thank you very much for making this video series. I went from not having a clue what I was doing to fully understanding how to edit sounds on my microkorg.
The 8 step sequencer is good for keeping time, not just randoms. Example: trying to figure out a 8 step song. Each sequence of notes is four notes. So I set the steps to four or better 8 because some are double. Thumbs up for the stuff I didn't know.
Wow... I was just thinking about how understated the utility of that last knob is. You could separate two timbres by octaves, and modify the sounds so one plays a bass chord while the other effectively serves as a lead--that could actually be a really powerful bit of knowledge for songwriting! The 4th knob on mine doesn't work, but after seeing this, I'm getting it fixed right away bc there's a lot you're missing out on in this synth of you don't have full control of the arpeggiator!
The arpeggiator on the microkorg is exceptionally well-featured. Regarding setting the note resolution (1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc). You are demonstrating this when the tempo is set internally by the tempo knob. When the synth is set to run by an external MIDI clock such as from a drum machine, can you still set the note resolution in the same way and with the same result?
I have a silly question: when I set the knob to Arpeg A/B and turn on the on/off for the arpeggiator, I get know sounds out of the Microkorg but when I turn it off it plays single notes. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks a lot and...I'm confused because my cutoff knob modifies not only cutoff, also pitch when I use it, before entering edit session. Don't know how to bring it back to normal😥
+Yao Shen you should be able to reload the sound preset by switching to another one and then back or simple go to the osc 'row' and adjust pitch back to what it should be.
+Jacques Mongrel Can I do it also with any patch while playing live? I had a Microkorg XL+ and tempo values number matched exactly with the tempo of my Kronos. I would like to use it with this Microkorg, thanks already
I wanna buy a synth but im divided between this one the Korg or the mininova iv seen a vid where a guy plays sounds of both and the korg really sounds better but the mininova as more features than the korg can someone tell me the rigth choice someone who really knows what they are talking about im trying to do some thing inbetween Pride &Fall Covenant VnV Nation I would apreciatte very much who could point me in the righ direction. Thank you
No, sadly there isn't. The only thing I can think of. Is that when working on a 2 layer sound, you can assign the arp to either one of the synth engines or both. So you could have a long sound on one synth engine while the arp runs in the other.
I did turn edit select 2 to arpreg.a and turn on the arpeggiator but the sound will disappeared and if I change the program select it will appears sound but doesn't have the effect like the video
Hello, dont know if you can help me but I cant find a solution to this anywhere - when I trigger the arpeggiator on the MK and I press down a key there is no sound, whereas outside of arpeggiator mode the key works fine. I'm struggling to find any solution!
Well I got this several years before the MiniNova came out. Ny educated guess is that the MiniNova is very capable synth. I imagine the synthesis engine is of a newer generation thx to more recent hardware and a nice combination of controls. I would say that the vocoder section and the integrated software editor are big plusses in my book. I would suggest watching demo videos to get a sense of how they differ and if possible try one in person at a store.
Michael Kupfer You can turn on the arpeggiator for any sound, custom or not. You can even add the arpegiator to just to just one of the Timbre layers and not the other if you are using both timbre layers. So you could have a pad sound on Timbre 1 and an arp running on Timbre 2 and when you play a chord you will hear both the pad sound doing the chord and the arp running in the background
Hey, can you see a numeric value on the screen when you change the tempo? or its indicated on the led light only? I mean, i nly need to see a numeric value on the arpegiattor tempo to match the number it with my Kronos tempo
+Carlos Alberto Araya Flores Hi Carlos, the BPM number of the arp comes up on the screen when you change the tempo setting but once you switch to other parameters only the LED light shows the tempo. If you are trying to sync the Microkorg to another synth you should try to use MIDI clock for that so that it is more accurate.

That's awesome. I'm really happy these videos helped!

Thank you! It is very nice to have the steps there
great! watched them all. opened up my head a bit on a few key things i had overlooked.
Really happy to hear that!
Hi man, your tutorials on the Microkorg are a life saver. Great service, thanks alot from Sri Lanka. Keep on rocking!
Glad they've been useful!

wonderful video thank you
Thanks for watching! It's greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for the tutorials jacques! They were really usefull
I'm glad they have been useful!
Thanks so much! You're so helpful! I hope TH-cam is paying you. Hahaha.
Thank you
thank you for this tutorials
+Tema Mali Absolutely. Thanks for watching.

Excellent tutorial! I have a question, can you make the arpegiattor go up and then down? Thanks!
I no longer have the Microkorg but I do believe so. There are several arp modes to choose from.
The arpeggiator on the microkorg is exceptionally well-featured. Regarding setting the note resolution (1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc). how about with midi cables? I cannot get the arpeggiator out from microkorg while using Cubase and vst instruments.
I have a silly question: when I set the knob to Arpeg A/B and turn on the on/off for the arpeggiator, I get know sounds out of the Microkorg but when I turn it off it plays single notes. What am I doing wrong here?

+Francesco Ghiazza Thank you for watching
hi...how can i play one sound with the arpeggiator on and adjust the time and see the values of time in the screen?? thks!
Edit Select 2 to Arpeg A then use the tempo knob (first knob) to get a numerical value.
+Jacques Mongrel Can I do it also with any patch while playing live? I had a Microkorg XL+ and tempo values number matched exactly with the tempo of my Kronos. I would like to use it with this Microkorg, thanks already
can you record your own pattern as arpegiator? like arturia microbrute.
You can turn steps on and off but that's it aside from arpeggiator type.
I wanna buy a synth but im divided between this one the Korg or the mininova iv seen a vid where a guy plays sounds of both and the korg really sounds better but the mininova as more features than the korg can someone tell me the rigth choice someone who really knows what they are talking about im trying to do some thing inbetween Pride &Fall Covenant VnV Nation I would apreciatte very much who could point me in the righ direction. so at the end of the arpeggio I just hit write and save after I have picked my perimeters and that will always be in an arpeggio mode?
Can you change the sounds parameters while the arpeggiator is lacht?
Yes, latch it and then switch over to your desired row of parameters for tweaking . Otherwise save it up with latch to use the default controls
Thanks a lot! ;)

I just don’t understand what goes through these companies heads not adding a tap tempo button.
theres a knob that does that for you.
@@elvergalarga4461 Totally, but if you don't know the tempo of a track you can't tap it in.
I did turn edit select 2 to arpreg.a and turn on the arpeggiator but the sound will disappeared and if I change the program select it will appears sound but doesn't have the effect like the video
Sorry I no longer have the Microkorg so am unable to troubleshoot this

maybe to late , but go under midi and set the clock to internal.
I think you’re totally right!
Is there anyway you can customize the note order on the arpeggiator?
Not really, you can only change the trigger mode namely the way the arp runs as in UP DOWN etc
jacquesmongrelvideos Ah well :/ Cheers anyway :)

This is such a great tutorial! Is there any way to leave the arpeggiator sequence running while you continue to play something else?
So I basically can only use the arpeggiator on the sounds/patches that are available on this mode? No custom sounds arpegiatted, no pads?
Michael Kupfer You can turn on the arpeggiator for any sound, custom or not. You can even add the arpegiator to just to just one of the Timbre layers and not the other if you are using both timbre layers. So you could have a pad sound on Timbre 1 and an arp running on Timbre 2 and when you play a chord you will hear both the pad sound doing the chord and the arp running in the background
Just like any sound on here, the arpeggiator is one of many parameters you control. If there is a menu option and a knob for it... it's in your hands.
Que lastima q no se pueda grabar. :(
Hey, can you see a numeric value on the screen when you change the tempo? or its indicated on the led light only? I mean, i nly need to see a numeric value on the arpegiattor tempo to match the number it with my Kronos tempo

Dilemma: buy an iPad 4 and install the free Synth One OR buy a MicroKorg?
What other equipment do you have? Do you play with other people? What do you want to use it for?
what are the arpeggiator modes on this korg? Is there an up and down and a trigger arp? or just up?
thanks
