      @Simon Johnson I think it certainly *helps* to know your way around basic chords and where C is, just so you can embed some sound sequence pattern recognition in your head for while you're creating, but with synths it's more about tinkering to get the noise you need really, otherwise you'd just buy a keyboard! I'm certainly no high grade piano maestro, but I did grow up with one and messing about on it, and that did help when I started taking synthesis seriously. The main thing is just to have fun and try to create weird sounds and string them together though :)

    Thanks for this video, I’ve been thinking of getting a microkorg, but I’ve been hesitant because I’m a guitar player who knows nothing about synths. But you really presented this in a way that makes sense, even to me. And the nearly 30 minutes flew by. I’ll be watching more for sure, and I already subscribed.
    Too bad you don’t get commission from Korg. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people buy microkorgs after watching your videos. I know I’m about to order one right now. My poor neighbors... they have no idea what’s about to hit them. Lol

    dismiss this as a "beginner synth" at your own peril . by the time i got a microkorg for 100 bucks i already had a juno 106, a juno 60, a roland sh 1000 , a "74 white face arp odyssey, the dave smith mopho a polysix and a poly 61m. etc. but the microkorg STILL blew my mind.. i use it live right next to my juno 60, because it does some awesome stuff , not in spite of what it is but BECAUSE of what it is!

    Hi Daniel!
    Thanks for your introduction to the microkorg. I am thinking about buying one for our band. We would like to have some synth-sounds in the background, sort of layers behind everything, which should last for a whole intro, for example. Is it possible to have like a latch-function on chords? i mean, is it possible to press down a chord and let go of the keys an have the notes ring on, like a latch-function, until you press a next chord?

    • @DanielKastner
      @DanielKastner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi! Yes, a long release (knob 4) will help you achieve that sound. Turn that all the way up and the notes will play forever. Dial it back some and it will be reigned in a bit! Best of luck

    thanks Daniel for sharing the video, I've just purchased the microkorg and completely new to it, though I have played guitar for decades so have picked up the basics. I am confused about the edit select dials. I understand that different sections and how to manipulate them with the control knobs and the corresponding lists for synth/vacoda written under each control knob. here's where I get confused, starting out for making a new sound, when I adjust the control knobs for VOICE and find the sound I want, I then move the edit select dial to PITCH. Then when I start changing the control knobs for PITCH what happens to the controls I had set for VOICE? Are they still part of the current sound? And when I keep moving through the edit select dial to OSC1,MIXER, FILTER,AMP etc. what happens to the previous edit select settings I have just set? Are they lost or do they keep adding to the sound? I hope this makes sense.

    Hi Daniel I was just wondering how well the synthesizer syncs with the other units ( like the minilogue which now has a full range of note resolution) please. Thank you very much you've got some great videos. And I've read a lot about the new microkorg or the newish ones and is it true that the original has a much higher build quality Because of because I've heard things about the microkorg XL/S which isn't encouraging. I don't know what you think of the mini Nova I like quite a few of the sounds had a lot of trouble playing the keyboard if I wanted to play fast but I've heard the microkorg keyboard is a fair bit better would that be a fair call.

    Hi Daniel, my Micro arrived this morning, so obviously i checked into your channel and went straight to this video to get started.
    Regarding the outputs, i've always used the headphone out on my Minilogue, using a 1/4 stereo jack adapter - into a 3mm phono jack - then the left/right phono connecters into left and right channels on my desk, with the left panned to the left and the right panned to the right, is this ok rather than running two seperate cables from the L/R outputs?
    Everything seems to work fine but following this tutorial, i find that when you get to 6.48, voice - single, the sound is much lower in volume than when it's changed to Layer.
    I've turned the synth off and back on to see if it will re-boot, just in case i have altered the volume in the settings but it's still the same.
    The synth main volume is turned to full and the volume is set at the desk, via the channel faders, as is the case with all my synths and modules, so as to get a clean input.
    Great tutorials, cheers.

The Microkorg may have a higher learning curve, but there cheaper options that are easier to learn such as the Korg Volcas or Pocket Operators. I picked up a couple volcas and pocket operators in January and my life is changed - no creative blockage since then because its hard to run out of fun things to do :)

    Don’t know if people are still active on this vid but does anyone have a solution to this problem? Higher notes on certain patches tend to sound very soft and low volume compared to lower notes. Any way to fix this?

    A low pass filter will filter out high frequencies and let low frequencies pass.
    Filter cutoff is the point where highs are cut.
    Filter cutoff peak will accentuate the cutoff.
    The resonance increases the sharpness of the peak, which can reveal harmonic content.
    Int=intensity bruh!

    you should start a music twitch account and just go live while having fun with your microkorg and pedals :)

    So I’m looking into getting one of these just to expand what I can do so my music isn’t always necessarily sample based. I’m literally 5 seconds exactly into the video and I smashed like and subscribe straight up simply because of your insanely friendly and welcoming intro 🙌🏾

    Hi! I just bought mine today and I was wondering how I might get sound out of it? I thought it would produce sound with the AC adapter, but I don’t hear anything. What would I have to connect it to to get the sound? Does connecting to just a speaker work?

      That's the strangest question I've ever heard? 🥸
      Of course you need headphones or a loudspeaker box!
      At the back of the device are the connections on the left side (headphones or line out).
      But maybe it's better to buy a keyboard with built-in speakers first.
      Casio has very nice models.

    I just got a microkorg Vocorder sythn and I didnt really grasp all the options It would have and I am very please with what Im experiencing and seeing from all these youtube posts. I already recognize a couple artists I like with the sounds Ive been experiencing making. Thank you for making these videos. I still have a lot to learn and Im eager as I grew up playing all sorts of instruments so the fact I can run an instrument through this synth and manipulate the sound is Amazing!

    Can you split the keyboard? I mean, first half of the keyboard making one type of sound, and the second half of the keyboard with a different sound?
