If i can compare it to someone's else work to give You an idea, Ashes Soundtrack captured everything from post apocalyptic world same as Jan Hammer captured the 80's vibes in Miami Vice soundtrack. Keep up the good work on Episode 3 and Hard Reset, we are waiting :) "Back in the game" from Afterglow along with "The Gap" are still my favourite.
This mod captured what most AAA titles can't get right with post apocaliptyc settings. I don't know exactly why but I absolutely loved every moment of this mod. The atmosphere, the weapons, the sense of having to scavenge and save ammo. Amazing mod, amazing music, excellent work, can't wait to play EP2.
I feel like the main reason this works so well while others don't is because AAA games in general are way too clean. I don't mean in terms of literally how much dirt there is in the world (although that's also true), I mean like the games themselves have too many good looking assets and people. It's like how there are no truly ugly people in movies, everyone is always a stoic hero with a chiselled jaw. Ashes is low-fidelity enough that your brain can sort of fill in the details. For instance, the first hobo you meet in Dead Man Walking, I sort of imagined what his dirty hideout looks like, and could imagine the smell and the grossness of him and his beard. In a AAA game where it's all laid out for you, there's no room for imagination.
What I really love about this soundtrack is that it uses the classic 80's synth noise properly, without it becoming grating or having it overstay it's welcome. So many of these 80's aesthetic games use like one or two synth noises and just drown the whole soundtrack in it. Everything felt very natural in this one though.
Once Ashes: Afterglow gets released I'd love to see it compiled with 2063 and Dead Man Walking for a Steam release. I don't think you can even call this a Doom mod anymore because of how massive of a project this is. The music, the Fallout/Mad Max/Escape from New York atmosphere, the gameplay, the scavenging and ammo conservation mechanics, this might be the best thing to ever come out of GZDoom.

I dont think anyone or any doom based game will ever top the feel and likeability that Ashes 2063 has delivered to the video game world. The post-apocalyptic gameplay mechanics, this FIRE OST, the story, and world building is absolute peak perfection. IDT ive ever enjoyed a triple AAA title as much as I enjoyed Ashes 2063/DMW/afterglow.

Both of the OSTs for this mod help encapsulate a feeling that i WISH other games could capture. The *best* way to word it is "It feels/sound like the "John Carpenter's : Mad Max" movie we never ever got". You have a lot of tones/vibes that the Escape from New York soundtrack, while also putting in that sort of odd and off side of the apocalypse that you'd see/hear in Mad Max. Though it has a lot more of the "John Carpenter" feeling overall, which is just the most fantastic feeling/sound.
'To Ashes' had me playing the same part over and over again in the game. Truly epic. Seems to have some John Carpenter Halloween vibe to it. My favourite track from the album.
I had pc games like heroes of might and magic 2, doom, duke nukem, motoracer, StarCraft, Diablo, a ton of obscure games and this feels like it would have been right up on my shelf with them
You don't even know how happy I am whenever I hear that one Ashes leitmotif in any of these songs. 10/10. Afterglow ost is on the whole new level but Mender Haunts is top tier track for me
I have never looked for doom wads ost´s in the past. I have enjoyed music in wads but not like this. The soundtrack by itself is already extremely rich in atmosphere but the synergy between this and gameplay really creates an extremely succesful contextual world.
Found out about Afterglow then 2063 thanks to 4chan's /v/, honestly these 2 mods have more polish and care put into them then most of the high budget AAA games I've played, from the wonderful sprite work to the nice enemies, and the amazing immersive atmosphere, last time I've felt this immersed is my first time playing Metro 2033, and this soundtrack just compliments it all so wonderfully, it's perfect. The only downside to these masterpieces is that I won't ever be able to experience them for the first time ever again, if there is an episode 3 planned than I can't wait.
This mod was an absolute masterpiece and the soundtrack is one of it's strongest part, that gives this game an absolute 80s atmosphere and the chills in creepy areas. I enjoyed ending a level and blasting 26:58 Edge of Humanity, that track is awesome!

Sadly, the channel that had separated the soundtracks of the game got deleted. Well, still, I really liked the soundtrack from Ashes 2063, they really fit the total conversion. And my favourite definitely is "To Ashes". The scenery and the theme gives an intense vibe similar to hellish landscapes more than a devastated city.
Ashes, for me, is the best mod, that I've played in my life and this soundtrack is one of the reasons contributing to that fact. Big respect, other guys don't exaggerate, when they say, that it's better than most of the AAA studio stuff.

This soundtrack is Brillant !!! I recently saw the movie Henrry Portrait of a Serial Killer, I immediately noticed the importance of music to create a great atmosphere and elevate the film at their high expression of quality. You done the same with this soundtrack for this game, Congratulations.

it's 'Legions of the dark' for me definitely, has a sort of a creepy spooky vibe added to it, almost like a cheesy ghost theme (intentionally cheesy in a good way)

It seems to me that no one praises "To Ashes", which is weird. While I aprreciate all of the music you made here, this one stands out for me. Fantastic build up, leading to that distorted, haunting keys, then a moment of peace with a nice guitar piece, and then again that beautiful melody with even more force then before. I will be replaying the WAD today, just to blast some mutants to your haunting music. Great work!
You are not the only one to love that level. Everything was perfect, music combined with red sky with storm coming, crumbling buildings and Geiger counter sound. Fighting your way up to the spire was magical.
I just had to hunt down this soundtrack. Had such an incredible blast playing this mod - as though I was playing Shadow Warrior or Blood for the first time, being completely overtaken by the atmosphere, characters, style, gameplay... very refreshing! I had to remind myself it wasn't it's own stand alone game from the 90s. But this music, dude, it's what held it all together and made it so captivating. There were moments were I thought the music and game would make for a great Carpenter concept, fancy that! I sure hope you come back to work on Ep2 when that gets done. Thanks a fuck ton Primeval!

When a free mod of one of the first fps in history beats the crap out of most AAA games from 2015 (and actually any age) and beyond you know there must be something wrong in the industry. This game is absolutely awesome, incluiding the soundtrack. Filled with hints and touches and love letters to the big fishes of the post apo genre and retro fps. From Zilla corp, Mancubo cigarettes and a Doomguy church to Metro books, Stalker monolyth and Mad Max legendary armor and posters and more. This game literally has it all! OUTSTANDING
Fantastic soundtrack. Took me way back to playing the post-poc game "Take No Prisoners" and it's music. Honestly half expected the tunes to be ripped from some other place when I began playing due to their quality. Pleasantly surprised to find they are new and original content. Passion like shown in Ashes 2063 is what keeps the medium truly alive. Keep on kicking ass!

The first part of Ghost Town sounds like the text screen song of Doom 1, while Further is a slow remix of More, in other words, one of the songs of TNT Evilution.

Just found out about this mod today. Hot damn it nails the 80's vibe so fucking well! I could be convinced half of this ost was used in movies like Street Trash or something. Carpenter classics like Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, too, damn. The list could go on. Heavy John Carpenter vibes here for sure. Fucking A. This OST is FIRE. And I gotta say, listening to Track 2063, I suddenly found myself projected into the endless white marble halls of a mausoleum being chased by a eerie tall man. Was that track by chance inspired by Phantasm? I can hear some of the familiar tune in the back there ;) Again buddy, I know I layered on thick before. But your soundtrack really does rock. Feels true to the 80s charm and aesthetic. Ashes would not have been anywhere nearly as great and repayable without your tunes. Best wishes on future projects!

The first part of Ghost Town sounds like the text screen song of Doom 1, while Further is a slow remix of More, in other words, one of the songs of TNT Evilution.
That is correct! And "The Mender Haunts" has some melodies from Doom II, Map02, "The Healer Stalks". :)
@@JohnSWeekley Well, I didn't hear that song yet, and after listening, I can notice the similarities in the rhythm of the pum pum and that part at 38:04 that are hard to confuse.

Just found out about this mod today. Hot damn it nails the 80's vibe so fucking well! I could be convinced half of this ost was used in movies like Street Trash or something. Carpenter classics like Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, too, damn. The list could go on. Heavy John Carpenter vibes here for sure. Fucking A. This OST is FIRE. VERY awesome job capturing a certain vibe that most cannot accomplish. I feel so nostalgic listening to this, you captured the vibe so damn well. Amazing work, I love this so much! Such an excellent soundtrack. Raised an already excellent mod to legendary status. My favourite track, by far, is Legions of the Dark; in particular the bit at 10:15. Also interesting to see everyone has a different favourite track! Super looking forward to episode 2 and dare I say episode 3?

And I gotta say, listening to Track 2063, I suddenly found myself projected into the endless white marble halls of a mausoleum being chased by a eerie tall man.
Was that track by chance inspired by Phantasm? I can hear some of the familiar tune in the back there ;)
Again buddy, I know I layered on thick before. But your soundtrack really does rock. Feels true to the 80s charm and aesthetic. Ashes would not have been anywhere nearly as great and repayable without your tunes.

I have to say, I didn't know you before playing Ashes 2063. I was instantly hooked by the awesome mod and your soundtrack. Awesome work! I explored a little bit of your other soundtracks, and WOW! You are very talented. I love it!! Also, somehow, the second track, "Wasteland", reminds me a little bit at John Carpenter. Especially at "Escape from New York". Which is a good thing, because I love the movie and the soundtrack!

We're finishing up the 2nd episode real soon. No word on if there's going to be a third installment yet, and no plans for a new project (yet).
