Was up last weekend and smallmouth fishing was really slow. Mile Roads water was 68*. Started Friday with 70+ boats and by noon I think we had 12 boats left in area. Mayflies were out of control with billions floating. Bass we were catching were in 6.5' - 8' water. Saturday in Anchor Bay only boat we saw catching fish were in 4' of water bed fishing. We do not sight fish bass on beds!
Ill be going out tomorrow for smallies for the first time on this lake and was wondering if anyone had tips on what bait to use since I'll be throwing small tubes most likely

Try the main lake flats along the shipping channel between the St Clair Light and the mouth of the middle channel.
Drag some #7 flicker minnows close to bottom until you pick a few up, then swing around and dial em in.

Fish deeper 10-14 fow, stay out of the crowds that are pounding mostly empty beds.
@@SportsmensDirect we ended up doing this before you commented and ended up at a spot where we caught fish every few cast in that depth.
What bait are they using to catch the catfish... Later in the summer with hot dogs or shrimp
Fresh cut bait works well, as does shrimp or large night crawlers.
