What fossil did you find? Never found a fossil out there before. Congrats! And yeah the Tourmaline out there is Black. Not Gem Quality, but still fun to find.
I had oilfield trucks and know that area well. I probably drove over a treasure of rocks and gems but was not bitten by the HOUND bug yet. I shall return! Great vid. Really enjoyed it. Subbed ya. Havagudun!
It’s fun. I would like to go rockhounding too. I would have to Drive a long ways, since you been doing this Can u tell me if there are places u can camp or stay close to these areas? I think it’s such a healthy, beautiful Hobby. Thank you. Treena🌲✌🏼😀
This is all in Mesa County around Fruita and Grand junction. There are plenty of beautiful camping opportunities everywhere around here. Especially if you just ruff it on the BLM land. Happy Hunting!
The Hobbyist,, BLM land, right on ; good to know I surely appreciate that. Good luck in your adventures. U know even if u not find much, what a beautiful place. Can’t wait to ruff it someday.👍🙏🏼🌲🌲
I hope you get your wish man! Ill be posting a Fossil Finding video shortly, there is a Cretaceous Flow about 15 miles south of where I live where finding them is as easy as bending over to pick them up.
I hope i do too! It's beautiful out there. I'm in southeast PA near all the old iron mines so there is quite a lot to find around here but nothing like out your way. I'm actually a few miles from what was one of the oldest copper mines in the US that was sealed up so the British couldn't get the copper but unfortunately it's on private land :( I have found many fossils in the Pocono mountains and it always amazes me what was pressed into those rocks millions of years ago. Keep up the good work man, looking forward to your future videos!
Colorado is full of rockhounding locations, especially along the Rocky Mountains. Any of the Western towns/cities would be a fantastic place to get started. I live in Mesa County and am within an hour of some great locations and just over an hour from even better places. Telluride Colorado is always a fun place to go but there isnt much BLM land around and getting express permission is an important thing around there.
@@MTreatVO well I'm from republic wa and people there dont teach about this stuff and I love to find cool rocks but dont know much on how to find them or what to look for to know that i have a good one but you can find me on Facebook i got marred this year so I'm McGraw now
Ive never done any rockhounding there myself but there are some fantastic old mines and places to go around the Denver Area. There was a lot of Gold and Gem mining activity back in the day. If it were me, I would find some old mine tailings and do some research to find out if they are on legal property. From there just be careful of rock slides and such, you shouldnt have to worry about uranium deposits on that side of the rockies. There is also a fantastic old Mining museum in Colorado Springs I went to a couple years back that has a lot of good information on local mining efforts. Happy Hunting!
Hey, it's your skateboarding neighbor across the street, Sheyn! This was RAD... makes me want to get off my bike every once in a while and look around for some cool rocks! that GIANT piece of tourmaline is badass... do you keep or sell it? I'm so dumb when it comes to knowing the value of stuff like this...
Was that a damn mountain lion?! and you just said ok?! Dude i rockhound colorado as well but that was by far the most bad ass thing ive ever seen a rock hound do!!! 10:46 time range
@@MTreatVO No way dude, that was a dragon. Seriously though, you are a bad ass. Thanks for making these videos man! You and others made me a rock hound as well. Love hunting near the Buena Vista area.
I can see why a geology class would take a field trip to that location! 10:45 hahaha! Never give your pieces to the geology teacher! You might never get them back!
you are passionate about what you are doing, that's cool. If you ever get a chance and make it out to the Springs let me know. I'll hook you up on a good hounding trip, Woody.
Badger2410 Hello! From Platteville here, just finished our first batch of tumbling rocks! So stoked to be hounding in CO this year! We own property down about 32 miles south west of Canon City... I know there's some amazing spots down there but don't know exactly where to go. Are you familiar with that area by chance? Could I contact you somehow to hound in the springs sometime?
Sure no problem. I get out all the time, pretty much every weekend or more. Email me at Michael.g.wood@hotmail.com 32 miles SW of Canon City..... Copper Gulch, Texas Creek??? Westcliff???
If you want to see what you'd be getting yourself into, click on my user-name and look at some of my videos. That might help to make a plan on what you'd be interested in looking for.
felix morgan depends on the sample. If it contains calcite or anything of the sort it will dissolve, I usually just use warm water and a light tooth brush.
Bro we should go hunt together, I just moved out to Parachute and come to Grand Junctionto rock Hounding. Shoot me a DM on my Instagram page, which is the same name as this account.
Love this place. I've brought back lots of quartz that now decorates my garden. Lots of nice rock out there.
I found an amazing fossil on the trail to the mica mines today. I'm so excited

Really trying to move out to Colorado! Whats the best place centralized around some good Rockhounding locations?

I live in Colorado and just started rockhounding and would love to go out and learn from you

Awesome! Hope you have fun. Good luck!
Very sweet! Are there any mines closer to Arvada Denver? I so want to go do exactly this. Nice black tourmaline.

I keep most of it but end up giving away a lot too. I have that piece sitting on my window lol

As much as I wish I could say im that bad ass, that was just a dog. lol.
Thanks for the sub man!

What color is a the tourmaline? Is it black?
Was it weird to see a dog way out there? Do you think he’s a feral dog? I rescue all the time I just had to ask.
Not too weird, this is a highly popular trail outside of town. Saw the woman that was walking the dog a few moments later.
The Hobbyist OK cool thank you for responding

How about doing an agate rockhounding video?
I know a good spot by Nederland where I've found rubies, sapphires, silver and gold if you wanna see it
Rey Brookes oh man I would love to know where that is!! So cool!!!
I have a few claims closer to brown's lake.
Take me bro, I wanna do the rock hound thing,,
Interesting, I jeep in a place that has black all over the side. I just thought it was coal
It could very possibly be coal, you would have to get a closer look. There are a lot of rocks that commonly occur black.
can you clean any samples in acid
felix morgan
depends on the sample. If it contains calcite or anything of the sort it will dissolve, I usually just use warm water and a light tooth brush.
that was an adit not a shaft
