This facet of bass is a bucket lister for me.I'm a Geezer bassist that's played hundreds of gigs in various types of bands over the decades. But, slapping is my kryptonite.I just can't seem to develop the speed and fluidity.I practice it and my arm gets tired quickly.I won't give up and I thank you for the lesson.
Great Lesson Dale!..also this groove has a built in polyrhythm ..the thumb actually is playing Quarter note triplets Three over Two ..very cool..like a Jeff Beck 🎸💕Freeway Jam feel👍🏻
Hey Michael! Thanks for the kind words. Action is such a personal choice that it varies greatly from bassist to bassist. I will say that if the action is too high it will be difficult to get a good slap tone and certain techniques will be tough to execute. But also, if it is too low it can be hard to pop on and the volume could be very quiet. So a good, medium action is usually best for most players.
BTW, thanks Dale. I loved having you in my life when I was learning how to play the bass. Solid and well balanced guy all the way around. Can’t say that about most guys trying to make a living on the strings.

Hey Dale!
What exactly are you using across the nut to mute your strings/keep them from vibrating sympathetically?
