No doubt. 'President'. You are sooo right when you say that 'you have to allow music to breathe'. Silence belongs to music too and many musicians/bands don't understand it.
Ms. Julia's enthusiasm when playing these bass lines is so wholesome to watch. I agree with her when she said it's hard to pick a favorite James Brown bass line. My favorite would be *Get on the good foot* and *Get up offa that thing* since these two are my most listened to James Brown songs
I had the chance to see him perform live twice when I was growing up. I passed his bus one day on the south side of Atlanta but I couldn't see inside. I'm guessing he was on his way home. That last time I saw him perform I was in 8th or 9th grade and he was promoting the convenience store chain that bared his name. They made such a big deal out of it and he performed. This was in the late 1960's.
Actually, the bass on the 1970 version of “Give It Up or Turnit Loose” (the version you’re playing in the video) was played by Bootsy Collins and originally released on the “Sex Machine” album. It was later re-released on a compilation called “Funk Power” which features Brown’s work with the Collins brothers…The bass on the original version of this song from 1969 was played by a different bassist - probably Sweet Charles Sherell.
Get on the good foot, james brown and band plus dancers just brilliant infectious how can you not tap your feet , quality. Listen to a lot of modern club music which is repulsive rubbish to listen to let alone try and dance to. Well done julia for reminding people of what real music is.
You're so right, it's so hard to pick a favorite, I could throw a dart at the list and be satisfied with what song in lands on, Haha, but for now, I'll pick the bass line from Static! One accessory you need when playing those funky bass lines, is a pair of cool sunglasses, Haha.
Young lady the version of "Give It Up Turn It Loose," you presented was a studio project with a audience overdubbed. When Mr. Brown, breaks down the band, he calls on Clyde Stubblefield for 4 bars, then he shouts out Bootsy. Check it out, this version of Give It Up Turn it Loose is on the double album Sex Machine. My favorite bass line is what transformed me in the Summer of 1965 into a James Brown fan, Papa's Got A Brand New Bag Part 2. Part 1 was slick, but I had never heard a bass player groove like that. My second favorites are tied, Cold Sweat, The Popcorn, The Chicken, and In The Middle.
Very nice, as always. You mentioned Prince as someone influenced by JB. It would be nice to see the top 5 Prince bass lines. Also, I would like to see something from Victor Wooten and Doug Wimbish. Thanks!
You really got into Funky President😁You could have had a go at The Payback cos' Charles Sherrell initially said he struggled at first, claiming the bass line didn't fit the song.
I usually watch your left hand to see what notes you are hitting but WOW at around 2:00 I just was mesmerized by your right hand. I noticed when you hit the higher octave you are alternating fingers. First the middle and the next time your first finger. I guess it comes down to whatever is available in the moment. I'm a total beginner so I cannot understand how to do that yet.
You are super talented and did an excellent job and thanks for acknowledging the musical gift of James Brown and the JBs. You play your bass well. My favorite of your selections was give it up, turn it loose. It gets no funkier than that...
Superbad......so good 😊 My favourite JB tune is a duet (with Lynn Collins?) ....Let it be me...a Latin version, when the melody kicks in at about 1.00, it's the best 👌 ❤
Wow, I waited for this . That was the most accurate Sex Machine bass ever!! Loved your silver shirt, especially with the violet star bass (looks quiet heavy weighted?) Thanks and a nice superfunky weekend!
I love all these songs, but I never really appreciated the bass lines until I've heard you play them. Maybe the bass just isn't very distinguishable in the mix? At any rate, thank you for doing this. Very cool!
Great work! Saw JB 12 times in his prime. I've played all of these but for some reason I had the toughest time picking up reggae. It finally clicked though!
It's hard to pick FAVORITE song by James Brown ❤ As you shared ALL OF HIS MUSIC was funky & lively. I remember dancing with my parents & brothers to his music. Whatever your choice, I'll enjoy! You ROCK girl! We can see the enjoyment you feel while playing those funky bass lines; we feel ya! Keep making videos ❤❤🎉 ... btw, you're invited to the cookout 😂😂❤
So lovely to see Julia play the star bass ! It sounds so good in Julias hands. They both fit together so well ♥ I have some perhaps unusual bass line favourites among Mr Browns songs, such as "body heat" and "the boss".
My playing days have long since passed and I have many regrets for not getting into James Brown's music . That just wasn't what I was into at the time.😥
GREAT job! Anyone expecting it to sound EXACTLY like the records are idiots. She’s just reinterpreting what was originally played so relax. Nice accent. 😀
You've tried to find a T-shirt that reflects more light than you do, but it's still not good enough. 😁 On a more serious note, it's very pure music. There are no extra instruments, no superfluous effects. Everything you need to make a good bass video. Thanks James (and Julia).🤗
Nothing like funk to squeeze the best bass faces out of Julia.
OMG , that Fender P-Bass is so beautiful......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the obvious three piece body and anemic pau ferro fretboard looked horrible.
Gotta love Julia diggin on James Brown 😉
No doubt. 'President'.
You are sooo right when you say that 'you have to allow music to breathe'. Silence belongs to music too and many musicians/bands don't understand it.
The Sex Machine bass line is perfecto! I've seen a lot of tutorials on that one and nobody plays with the same touch as Julia. Sounds so authentic.
Thank you so much! ☺️ // Cheers, Julia
Agree
I agree she sounds good but the first two songs are not played exactly like the original unless she learned them from some alternate track.
And sexy. Let's not forget what JB was doing here.
Ms. Julia's enthusiasm when playing these bass lines is so wholesome to watch. I agree with her when she said it's hard to pick a favorite James Brown bass line. My favorite would be *Get on the good foot* and *Get up offa that thing* since these two are my most listened to James Brown songs
Love it. J B my favorite hero
Cold sweat
Funky good time!!
@@FredYoung-zv3nz Ah yes! That one is on my playlist too. We're gonna have a funkyyy good time 👏
Soul Power, Ralkin’ Loud & Sayin’ Nothin’ plus Sex Machine are my all time favourite bass-lines
Julia, it is great to see you "Turn it a loose". Excellent video.
ITs an awesome day when Ms Julia drops a video.

"People Get Up And Drive Your Funky Soul" has got so much groove that I DARE YOU to sit still while it's playing!! 😄
What a blast from the past for me, I remember when all these songs came out. Yep, I'm old, LOL!
Psssssst 🤭 ...no matter, she does a really great job 👍
Julia playing is always a pleasure. What a tone and killing playing. And the bass face :P
It's always fun to watch how much fun Julie has doing these videos. My favorite James Brown song and bass line is probably "Mother Popcorn."
Get on the good foot, james brown and band plus dancers just brilliant infectious how can you not tap your feet , quality.
Listen to a lot of modern club music which is repulsive rubbish to listen to let alone try and dance to.
Well done julia for reminding people of what real music is.
She is so awesome.
love the 10-11-12 fret walk up on the g in funky president
feels uplifting
You're so right, it's so hard to pick a favorite, I could throw a dart at the list and be satisfied with what song in lands on, Haha, but for now, I'll pick the bass line from Static! One accessory you need when playing those funky bass lines, is a pair of cool sunglasses, Haha.
Yay! You did it-James Brown! Thanks Julia- my new favorite bass teacher! (man, was I missing alot on these riffs) Juan.
this video, made me think how dead alot of music would be with out bass riffs . awesome video thanks
Nice dancing (and playing too!). It’s impossible not to dance with these grooves…so let’s dance with Mr James Brown! (Not dancin’? Not human 😂).
Julia keeping the funk alive.

Get Up Offa That Thing is one of my absolute favorites.
"Funky President" was recorded by LA studio musicians including bassist Gordon Edwards (later known from Stuff).
I LOVE the bassline for "Get On The Good Foot"! Working my way to the point where I can play it myself.
Anything you are playing at the moment is my favorite! 🎶 🎵
The killer playing and groove is almost surpassed by the bass stank face!😝🤟🤟🤟👌
Agree! Better than many you tubers who at times look like watchin a slug race. Funky shirt as well ! All in all: a like
Wow blows me away how good she really plays😊 Thanks❤.
You're right - it's hard to pick just one favorite James Brown bass line. The Bootsy bass was a nice touch. Thanks!
Very nice, as always. You mentioned Prince as someone influenced by JB. It would be nice to see the top 5 Prince bass lines. Also, I would like to see something from Victor Wooten and Doug Wimbish. Thanks!
Living in America 🇺🇸 is one of my fav bass lines 😊
Good point about quantization, it is the enemy of funk and feel.
I Feel Good was my favorite - I love to play that one too!!
Great video! Much love for Bootsy. My favorite James Brown tune is "Get up offa that thing".
My favorite Thoman video producer😊❤
You really got into Funky President😁You could have had a go at The Payback cos' Charles Sherrell initially said he struggled at first, claiming the bass line didn't fit the song.
Oh man I love those bass lines makes me move and dance
Julia as usual your playing is impeccable... But you really make that outfit look just lovely!! Loving the top. Looking good girl.
Your technique on "Funky President" is PERFECT! The staccato feel you employ here is almost indistinguishable from the original 👏
Funky President is great! Love that song!!
She is so dang talented. And has the best funk face. Also really like the tone on that player p bass
Super groovy weekend start. Cheers Julia!
Spot on…it’s not quantised…it breathes and lives…EDM ain’t go no soul 😎
Favorite: "Funky Precedent" @4:39
Ah!!! Friday! And BassGoddess! Love it!

Imagine showing up to a gig at an Oktoberfest in Tyrol playing ompa-fifths with that Bootsy "star" bass :)
Awesome bass jamin’ all JB to choose- Funky president
Awesome Julia 👍❤️🎶
Finally Julia brings the JB jams!
Thanks Julia ! That's some really cool funky playing !
I just love hearing you play. Makes me want to put down my guitar and drumsticks and take up the bass. 😉
Thanks, Julia. Well done! ❤

Wow, groovy, groovy, groovy! ❤
Great video and playing! My favorite JB bassline is Cold Sweat, which is from 1967 and according to what I have read the first funk song ever!
I actually think Papa's Got A Brand New Bag (1965) is funky enough to qualify as funk!
I agree, but Cold Sweat was released in 1967, which is my year of birth and I like the idea that funk and I where born in the same year 😊
Good presentation . . . Favorite BASS LINE of James Brown is "Cold Seat" and it's "Popcorn" variations.
Cold Sweat!
Such joy in these videos! Lovely to see.
LOVE THIS LOVE THIS LOVE THIS!!!!!
I've got my groove on tonight. Thanks you Rock!
Great work! Saw JB 12 times in his prime. I've played all of these but for some reason I had the toughest time picking up reggae. It finally clicked though!

Fantastic, stupendous, incredible and amazing basslines perfectly demonstrated!! RIP to the Godfather of Soul and hail Bootsy, Sultan of Groove!!!
Always a treat, Julia. Thanks for your great energy and terrific playing( and beautiful smile).

Hello Julia. I really like how you interpret the bass lines. I can't choose one, they are all pure funky. Bye
Hi Julia, a song I think you should check out is Perfect Angel by Minnie Riperton
Awww she got that bass bounce on the 1!! She got the funk in her!!
Best looking bass player julia
Another Amazing video! Thank you!
My playing days have long since passed and I have many regrets for not getting into James Brown's music . That just wasn't what I was into at the time.😥
Julia pings those notes like someone twanging a rubber band - boing and strut! Hard to find the words but that's she's got motherfunkyfingers!!!
Her accent is getting better and better.
GREAT job! Anyone expecting it to sound EXACTLY like the records are idiots. She’s just reinterpreting what was originally played so relax. Nice accent. 😀
Aint it funky! Keep it on the 1!
You've tried to find a T-shirt that reflects more light than you do, but it's still not good enough. 😁
On a more serious note, it's very pure music. There are no extra instruments, no superfluous effects. Everything you need to make a good bass video. Thanks James (and Julia).🤗
Hi Julia ! Thanks for this very funky video. You're full energy and you'll make my week-end shine ! See U soon. François
Love your work Julia
Thanks for giving inspiration
l was never a fan of James Brown but, Julia, as a true expert, you make these bass lines look easy.
