    if you do get scratches in your lenses. you can use polywatch and a microfiber cloth. to polish them back to the glory. be patient and spend at least 10 minutes with the polish process.

      I've got a few scratches from wearing glasses before i got a set of VR Optician Prescription Lenses. But you can't actually see any scratches when playing games. Unfortunately, i used Distilled water a handful of times to clean the lenses, and now there's a permanant milky blotch in the middle of the screen. It's noticeable big time for darker games, anything with dark environments. ONLY use the micro fiber cloth, or your breath to get it moist as possible to clean them the best you can. Now i'll need to buy a replacement headset.

    I know it sounds silly but ive been getting fogging in my Q2 recently, and realised ive been keeping it on the floor. I now keep it on a high shelve in the living room near the TV, and that seems to acclimatise the lenses a bit better. Much less fogging at the start of game play.

    I have one of those rubber squeezy air things. and I've found that works really well at getting rid of fogging as well. just lift the headset enough to get the nozzle in (you might not even need to touch the headset) and give a few quick puffs of air towards the lenses and the fog will go .

    Legend! I’m currently half way through doing an “extreme IPD mod” on my Pimax 8KX and I have some smudges on the back sides of the lenses, and although many sites I had read say not to use alcohol or any cleaning wipes, I came across some Weiss lens wipes that said they were safe to use on all glass AND plastic lens types, so I just got home from picking them up from Woolworths. But then got scared again after reading a couple more sites saying not to use alcohol lol. But after a few more mins of research, I notice Vive themselves say on their lens cleaning instructions that you can use alcohol wipes, which made me think, ok maybe they are ok. Then the next thing I saw was your TH-cam video and you mention the exact same wipes I just picked up, therefore, clarifying any worries I had of them damaging the lens. Good shit! Thanks so much mate. Not the first video of yours I’ve ever seen and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Keep up the great work. 😊👍

      Ah nice one mate thanks for taking the time to comment. I used to by these from Amazon but came across them in Woolworths too a few weeks ago so picked up a fresh box. Yep they're all good in the lenses. I only use them when necessary but 4 years in and no lens degredation at all from those wipes and they really get the tough smudges off :]

    I just got my Index a couple days ago and right out of the box I've noticed some pretty pretty clear glare when playing. Super light areas, super dark areas, everytime I tilt my head I see glare in my peripherals its usually something I can easily ignore when I'm having fun but sometimes it downright breaks the immersion. I've read that this is an off and on problem with the Index, do you have any tips for that? Should I consider RMA'ing the headset to Valve or is some glare just typical of this model? I noticed the lenses were not 100% clean when I received them (something left over from the manufacturing?) could cleaning them help? Thanks

    But what about dust specs on the insides of the lenses? I have kept it all clean and use the micro fiber cloth on the outside. I keep it covered under a cloth to keep dust build up low. But ended up with a little spec on the inside of the right lens. I thought using the air can duster might be able to blow through and get it off. But I just tried that today and it only made it worse. I now have 2 specs on the right lens and one on the left. Like there is not a way to take those lenses off so what the heck do I do? Replace the headset every time a spec of dust magically gets on the inside of a lens?

    DON'T USE COMPRESSED AIR ON THE INDEX.
    Sorry for the capital letters but please ... fellow VR users ... do not use compressed air on the Index. It is a know problem that the lens compartments on the Index aren't completely airtight. If you use air on the device ... even if you blow too much on it you will blow dust into the lens compartment onto the screen. It happened to me and it happened to others ... watch the steam forums. It might be you will not be affected but after my experience I would not dare again. I don't know about other headsets. I never had this problem on my Rift but also didn't try with compressed air or a blowing tools.

      Depends on how fine your t-shirt material is I suppose and how hard you rub it. T-Shirt won't not work but not something I'd recommend everyone try.. Only takes one scratch. Screen door effect is on its way out tbh, upgrade that Vive to an Index or Rift S/Quest. Not completely gone but so unnoticeable it's barely worth mentioning. Could never go back to my CV1

      The alcohol wipes are only for when you have scuffs that a good microfibre cloth just can't remove. In that case you'll have to use something, and the alcohol wipes will work. After 5 years of using them a handful of times each year to remove the worst smudges I have zero noticeable lens degradation

    • @gordon7936
      @gordon7936 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not recommended but they should work, i asked once optician if its ok for glasses, he didnt reccomend as these paper wipers can make micro scratches. I use it anyway on my glasses lenses as youre gonna buy new after a few years, after this time lenses degradation is very visible if you look on them from side, but very unnoticeable when using them personally. Still worth, as theyre super effective in comparison to microfiber that wont actually help with really dirty lenses. I assume its similar with vr lenses.

    If you use alcohol you remove the fat film your eyes produced on the lens surface instead of just thinning and flatening it with the microfiber cloth. This probably makes your lenses more prone to fogging up, since that fat film is water repellent and therefore prohibits condensation to a certain degree. Therefore you should only use alcohol if you really can't get the smear away otherwise. It takes time for your skin and eyes to fatten up the lenses again.

    • @silveridgevr

      What do you mean by 'fat film'? Are you saying not to use Isopropyl on the lenses?

    The method i used gave me totally clear lenses. here's how. first take a hammer and chisel and remove any dust particles, for larger particles an angle grinder or jack hammer works well, remember to shake any dust off, throwing the headset against the wall works well, keep launching against the wall until all particles are gone, remove smudges with sulfuric acid ( wear gloves and add more gloves as the top layer of gloves melts away) stop for a cup of tea, you deserve it, you have worked really hard, we are almost halfway there, well done. Remove particles on the outside of the headset by placing large jagged stones in your washing machine, add the headset and put on the fastest spin possible, two or three hours should do the trick. If when you open the washing machine everything has been ground down to a paste, don't worry, this is perfectly normal. now head to the store and buy a new psvr. job done. thank me later.
