Thank you for the review! The only thing that would really annoy me (and it’s coming back from previous gen.) is volume reset after each power off. The solution could be the preset in the software , but nope - volume level doesn’t save with preset. It’s really unfortunate that despite all this technical mumbo jumbo Audient keep forgetting about the basic QoL features.
True, but considering that my Prism Sound Lyra 2 costs £2300 new, and the iD14 costs about £185 - I really, really, really can forgive this detail, considering the perplexing level of quality on offer!
I keep wanting to replace my ancient Edirol UA-5, but it supports two xlr/1/4” inputs, monitor them separately, has RCA stereo input at the back for a small analog mixer, digital out, headphone jack. Don’t need midi. I’m sure the audio is crap compared to the Audient but serves my purpose even though I’m itching to buy something new.
I sometimes wonder if the companies that send Bandrew gear have pre-screened the boxes to remove stickers... there's been a distinct lack of sticker rage the past while.
I use the Audient iD14 in my voiceover studio. I have used this with Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (250 ohm) and Sony MDR-7520 (24 ohm) headphones. Have to turn it all the way up to get an ok signal level w the DT770, making it problematic for fine editing, whereas there is plenty of headroom with the 7520 to make your ears bleed if you like that sort of thing. The low roll off at the lower impedance is an interesting issue but with spoken word, I have not encountered an issue, especially as the 7520s perform at 8-50k frequency response, so Sony said. (Alas, my favorite headphones ever can no longer be gotten.) HUGE CAVEAT to the iD14: the firmware is funky in working w Protools. There is a STATE file that you have to find in your library and trash on a regular basis because frequently, you'll open a session, or even continue a session and find you have NO headphone monitoring. The meters are moving in the DAW but no sound in the interface. Super painful because the fix is trashing the STATE file, then pulling the plugs on the id14, rebooting the Mac, and plugging the iD14 back in. But the good news is usually you only have to do that once per occurrence. Usually. Sometimes it takes two restarts, which is really a serious loss of time and a major annoyance. That is what has cooled my jets on recommending the iD14 any more. Audient is at a loss to explain the problem and because it comes from the UK, the whole servicing methodology and time frame was too much of a pain to do (I'd have to buy an equal backup interface to keep working, and why do I want to do that?) that I continue to live with the issue.

When I turn on my Gibson Explorer with passive magnets, the signal clips even when the input gain is turned off. Second: Does Daw report to you that the signal is passing even when your input gain is at zero (turn off)? When I connect the mic At4050 and Bass Guitar with passive magnets, the signal passes up to -24dbFS in DAW and on LED meters.
Hey. After going through a bunch of your videos for helping make my decision on Mics and Headset Mics, I now find that you are doing Audio Interface reviews as well - which is my next buy. :-) Thanks a lot for all these videos. One things I hadn't crossed my mind and that came out in some comment is that many Audio Interfaces do not seem to have latency free direct monitoring via the TRS outs. They have direct monitoring only via the headphone jack. Can you perhaps touch upon that in your reviews? I might want to use the AI as a mixer when jamming with a couple friends instead of purchasing another device and in this case having this monitor out directly to the speaker monitors would be nice to have and latency free.
Is there any noticeable difference between the D.I. inputs on the interfaces you mentioned at the end. I'm really debating between them and I think the Instrument input will be the most important thing between them as well as latency since I'm primarily a guitar player. Thanks for your reviews!
Great review! I need a bit of advice if you don’t mind. I’m looking for an external usb powered dac to enjoy music with one mic input for online meetings. But the high quality dac for music listening is priority. Do you think it’s worth getting the id14mkii just for that as I’m not a musician therefore I do not need instrument input. The price is incredible for what it does. And I do love having the volume knob instead of fiddling with some tiny up and down buttons. Any dac only device at the similar price point that would do a better job for my use case? thank you in advance
I don’t know what digital interphase is, unless that means interface. I’m not sure if the port would be fried. If you have a multimeter you can measure the voltage on an XLR cable between pin 2&3 and see if it’s giving any voltage.
So it looks like the software on the id14 replaces the monitor mix knob on the ID4. This is a major improvement in my opinion. Thanks for showing that crucial piece of information. I hate the mix knob on the ID4. Think I made my decision to upgrade for that alone, and the 4 outputs. Awesome feature to A/B 2 sets of monitors with a monitor controller. 👍
can i use the interface without connecting to a DAW ? if i want to connect a line-in through the optical AND connect some analog inputs via XLR, can i hear everything mixed together through the headphone jacks or even through the analog outputs all at the same time ?
I purchased a TC electronics Clarity unit which I have not been able to use with my older interface. Do you think this Audient interface will allow the Clarity to be used?
Hey what Amazing review like always ! Review about the BLACK LION REVOLUTION 2x2 !! SOUNDS amazing but I want to listen your opinion !! and no too many reviewers have this review
Not looking good so far. Amir @ ASR found mediocre D/A and A/D dynamic range, and Julian Krause was starting to think his review sample was a dud when he found mic input EIN even higher than the Steinberg UR22s'. This seems to be a company that believes in optimizing things purely "by ear", which has a tendency to backfire horribly. As it stands, this interface seems to be a botched implementation of something usually selling for half the price at best.
Was wondering if anyone has plugged their id4/id14 into a usb 3.0 port using a usb c to a type adapter and if their 3.0 usb port was enough to power this thing properly for headphone levels and clean gain output?
Great review. I have a question about room noise (or noise floor, whatever the background noise is called). Would you use the SM7B or NT1? And Motu vs Audient for the lowes noise interface? Thank you.
To clarify, if you cant run an instrument into the hi-Z input and a mic into channel 1 XLR at the same time, can you run a mic into channel 2 and record both voice and instrument that way?
Do you think this interface has enough power to power an at2020 mic and biodynamic 990 pro 250 ohm headphones? Or do you recommend something a little cheaper if this interface is to strong for both of them?
hey man thank you for the review ? i have one question if you are still using id14 . do u have to re adjust volume knob every time you turn ur pc into sleep mode and waking it up. i heard it goes to zero evey time >>???
Is it possible to use this Interface in Stand Alone Mode ? Connect to an USB Socket and not to a Computer. , I dont want to record, but to use it as a Inout Mixer for Music Playback of my Hifi DAC oder CD Player, connectes via Stereo XLR (L+R) and then send to the Stereo Output and controle via the Volume Knob. Is this Possible? Thanks
Point of clarification on the iD14. The Big Knob controls, but does not gang, the speaker (main) output and the headphones. When you push the speaker button, the big knob controls the volume of that output. Then it stays at that volume for that output; when you push the headphone button, and set the level for your cans, that level stays where you put it. So yes there is only one knob, but it does different jobs depending on what you depress. (With the middle function being assignable in the software...which I really do not like. There is a pervasive problem w Protools not talking to the iD14, for no discernible reason, that is remedied by trashing the STATE file and rebooting. Painful.)
You can use USB type A but it is recommended to use type C. I am led to believe it is to get the full power delivery to your headphone out and also stable 48v.

I have a question regarding headphone impedance. I own the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X, which has an impedance of 48 ohms. I'm considering purchasing the Audient iD4 interface, which has a headphone impedance of 600 ohms. I saw in some forums and also Julian Krause videos about the 1/8 impedance rule that using higher impedance headphone amps with lower impedance headphones can affect frequency response and potentially damage the drivers of the headphone. Can anyone clarify if this will be an issue, or if it's safe to use the headphones with the interface? I currently own a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and looking forward to upgrade my interface and the only best option now to me is the Audient iD4. Thanks in advance!
can anyone answer this problem i have with the Audient ID14 MKII Audio Interface ? I find that the gain on the microphone is about a quarter of what I get on my previous interface. I have to have the mic full volume to just about be heard. I've tried it on 2 different computers with 2 different microphones and is the same. I am using good quality lavalier Tram mic. I spoke to audient about this and they said that the unit was faulty and to send it back. So I did that I've got a new unit and have exactly the same problem, there is nearly no gain/volume on the microphone. Any ideas any solutions any comparisons I would love to know about. If it is true this is a huge and stupid drawback to this unit. The other interface I have which I get plenty of volume on the Mic is a Rubix 22.
If I am buying interface for some 1mic podcast plus music listening through headphone, would id4 stand out as great option for its quality headphone output and preamp?

I might want to use the AI as a mixer when jamming with a couple friends instead of purchasing another device and in this case having this monitor out directly to the speaker monitors would be nice to have and latency free.
Is there any noticeable difference between the D.I. inputs on the interfaces you mentioned at the end. I'm really debating between them and I think the Instrument input will be the most important thing between them as well as latency since I'm primarily a guitar player. Thanks for your reviews!
which prefer FOCUSRITE SOLO 3rd G or AUDIENTE ID4 MII?
Great review!
I need a bit of advice if you don’t mind. I’m looking for an external usb powered dac to enjoy music with one mic input for online meetings. But the high quality dac for music listening is priority. Do you think it’s worth getting the id14mkii just for that as I’m not a musician therefore I do not need instrument input. The price is incredible for what it does. And I do love having the volume knob instead of fiddling with some tiny up and down buttons.
Any dac only device at the similar price point that would do a better job for my use case?
thank you in advance
If the phantom power switch shows no response in the digital interphase after a power surge, is that an indicator the port is fried?
I don’t know what digital interphase is, unless that means interface. I’m not sure if the port would be fried. If you have a multimeter you can measure the voltage on an XLR cable between pin 2&3 and see if it’s giving any voltage.
just got my first audio interface ever and it's this one here :)
is there a difference in gain and noise floor between ID4 vs ID14?
Wow that voice correction was so smooth, i wouldn't ever have noticed it if i didn't see the comments :O
Any word on when we might see a Mark II for other ID models? Thanks!
You really did get all of that note.
Get all the sustain you can.
@@Podcastage Shake it like a Polaroid.
Thanks friend , it was so useful !
I purchased a TC electronics Clarity unit which I have not been able to use with my older interface. Do you think this Audient interface will allow the Clarity to be used?
Motu M2/4, SSL2/+, and the id4/14 are pretty much the triumvirate of higher end entry level interfaces.
Hello, can I ask, which one is better, Moto 2 or Audient iD14 MK2?
How do I use 2 pairs of monitors with this sound card?
@@PileOfEmptyTapes Thank you. I thought so.
Was wondering if anyone has plugged their id4/id14 into a usb 3.0 port using a usb c to a type adapter and if their 3.0 usb port was enough to power this thing properly for headphone levels and clean gain output?
since it dont have power supply ... wondering whats the max lenght of the USB cable and still provide all power to the preamps ?
Most USB's are not effective over 10 feet and may need power boost if longer...
Great review. I have a question about room noise (or noise floor, whatever the background noise is called). Would you use the SM7B or NT1? And Motu vs Audient for the lowes noise interface? Thank you.
Hello, Which one you end up buying? Moto 2 or Audient iD14 MK2 for Shure sm7b?
@@kaankucuk1612 I went with Audient + NT1 and they work great.
To clarify, if you cant run an instrument into the hi-Z input and a mic into channel 1 XLR at the same time, can you run a mic into channel 2 and record both voice and instrument that way?
If the mic is into channel 2, yes. But you cannot use the instrument and mic input on channel 1 simultaneously.
How does this stack up against the UA Volt 276 for recording vocals/acoustic guitar? Please and thank you!
Thank you very much for this review. I shall go with the SSL 2 then !
Yes that's correct.
Is it possible to use this Interface in Stand Alone Mode ?
Connect to an USB Socket and not to a Computer.
, I dont want to record, but to use it as a Inout Mixer for Music Playback of
my Hifi DAC oder CD Player, connectes via Stereo XLR (L+R)
and then send to the Stereo Output and controle via the Volume
Knob. Is this Possible? Thanks
Great review. As always.
I am still really happy with my SSL2 (non+) and SM57 (+accessories) combo and not even think about any change in the setup.
57? Not a vocalist, I see.
I'm a newbie here! It means when I buy this interface, I can directly plug in SHURE SM7B without using a cloudlifter, right? Thanks!
Yes
@@GuillermoArellano Thank you!
This explains a lot. I'm about 40db quieter in discord than every other application and discord support was no help at all
Point of clarification on the iD14. Painful.)
Nice review.
I am having a problem with discord too. Could you make a tutorial on how to fix it if possible please
@Podcastage Audient ID14 MKII or Focusrite Clarett+ 2Pre?? Opinions please??
What is the lowest latency you can get of it at 16 or 32 samples at 48khz? For guitar player
Is this better than ssl2+ for electric guitar recording? (For high gain settings, I would like to know wich has the best preamp and the less noisy)
Great video man! Been waiting to see you do this review. Could you PLEASE do the Antelope Zen Go! 🙏🏼
That's some tasty guitar playing, brother!
Great review. Do you use usb-c or A? With usb-a can move hd600? Thanks.
You can use USB type A but it is recommended to use type C. I am led to believe it is to get the full power delivery to your headphone out and also stable 48v.
@@kevc6115 I use mine un UsbA, but i wanna know if with usb-c has mucho more power and clarity and quality
@@marcoselmalo4470 Check out Julian Klaus's review posted a few days ago. He covers it.
@@kevc6115 the results with usbc are lower than specs audient say. He or audient have faults. I dont know if with usbc you have moren volume only, or quality. Thnks
The main thing is making sure you have a USB 3.0 jack on the computer that outputs the required voltage... Any USB 2.X interface will not work...
can you please compare it with Universal Audio Volt 2? please
Already have SSL2+ for my MKH416 but i need this for my 250ohm headphones from Beyerdynamic, thanks buddy.
hi im with focusrite scarlet 2i2 3rd gen now.
Im planning to upgrading my AI/Pre after finally i got my neumann KM184 :)
is it better to upgrade my scarlet to clarett+
or
Stay with scarlet 3rd gen 2i2 and buy a pre (maybe about 200-300)?
Thanks!
What problems did you face while using this with a mic for discord and how do we solve that? It would be really helpful to know about it.
I think he is talking about streaming, or loopback a mic with effects to discord. I have the MKI version and use discord extremely well every day
@@prodsamper Oh, i see, Just got my mkii today lol, thank you for clearing my confusion
How does this compare to the universal audio arrow / Apollo solo. I can get them for about the same price but I’m worried about the longevity of the Apollo as it is not class compliant, whereas I believe the audient is class compliant.
I only hear audio on the left side. Is this normal?
You're so funny and great reviews!
Out of your recommendations in the id14 price range...which has the best clarity for vocal inputs?...
Which interface would you recommend (not high budget) to use with a rode nt1 microphone. The space is fully treated by 45%
ID14MKII or Scarlet 2 i 2 third generation. 45% treatment is good. Over treatment is wrong.
can anyone answer this problem i have with the Audient ID14 MKII Audio Interface ?
My iD4 amps sound great and headphone sound good. New MKII will have the same great sound and is better at driving headphones.
@@MrDylanMitchell thanks I am choosing between SSL2 and ID4. Fit and finish ID4 is a class above SSL2. They are about the same price
SSL has tiny little better conversion. This being said all of the audio interface (SSL2, ID14 and M2) are great. Could. be interesting to review Apollo twin MKII or X as well as Antilope Zen Go... Audio interface with real-time effect. Great video tho :D
I’ve been using my TwinX for about a year and I have it on my schedule to review this year. =)
