I have minimized and simplified my beauty items and my skin has never looked better. I only have 1 shampoo in the shower and conditioner. I have 2 moisturizers, 1 serum and 1 body lotion. I don't buy a new product until the one I am using is almost empty. It works great for me and I never over buy.

Amazing! Serums I could prob get down to two. I like a vitamin C serum and something with an AHA. but as for lotions. I will always have at least half a dozen 😄

Hey Carla👋🏾from Texas. Loving your content per usual. As a licensed beauty professional who worked retail for many years I'd suggest writing the date you purchased items in a discrete way on them because beauty products have a shelf life anywhere from 5 months to 24 months. This can be found in the bottom corner near the barcode or below the ingredients list. It will look like a little jar open with lid and a number and M within it. Example- 5M or 12M or 24M which are the usual suspects. Some ingredients lose their potency and can even cause skin reactions or buildup on the hair since the ratios aren't balanced for the intended purpose. ❤️Hope you find this helpful. 😁 Keep the declutter coming ❤️❤️❤️I'm here for it👀👀👀

Greetings from the UK. I use one hat box as my 'memory/sentimental' items storage. If an item is too big to fit in or the box is too full then I'm forced to cull some items which makes me really think what is important to me and what I can let go. Love your videos, they always inspire me to keep organising and decluttering! 😉

When we lived in inland Australia, where the climate was extremely dry, I had an extensive "cream regime", I think I could have kept the beauty cream industry afloat single handed. There was a face cream, eye cream, body butter for the body, a cuticle cream, a "summer glow" lotion for my legs to give that tan without sunbaking look and a cream especially for cracked heels. Post shower creaming was a marathon. Now we live in New Zealand with a milder climate.....lot less creams and lotions. Thank goodness. I can get into bed quicker! Great ideas for decluttering Carla.

The accent was so fun at the beginning! I thought "how many years ago was this video?" I love the inventory idea, and I use it for my freezer. I keep a list on my laptop (which is in the kitchen) and every time we put something in there we add it with the date. Then when I want to use up older stuff, I know where to start! I attach it to google keep so I can see it when I'm at the store.

I only allow myself to have one of each product now and only buy a new one when the previous one is about to run out.
I also have separate day and night toners but use a cerave lotion all over face and body. That is my version of minimalism I guess

The thing about decluttering is that it is personal. You do not have to be minimalist, Carla. I understood you completely about your skincare. I think my inventory for skincare (if not for some of the other things) is possibly a bit longer than yours! When you declutter, as I understand it, the point is to retain only the things that you need, want and do use, or definitely will use. If you need a different toner for day and for night, that's down to you to decide and nobody else has the right to judge. They might use soap and water on their face and nothing more than moisturiser. There are plenty of people who don't wear sunscreen! We all make our own decisions, and yours seem perfectly reasonable to me. I just wouldn't buy any more until I was close to running out of an item. But like you, I admit, I realised that I had enough skincare probably for the rest of 2022 - except maybe I'll need some micellar water and more of my lip moisturiser. But those apart, I shouldn't be buying any more of the basics because I have them all covered, including new things that I haven't tried before but couldn't resist buying. So 2022 is now a Low Spend/No Buy (wherever possible) year for me! Good luck with your year and keeping rampant consumerism at bay!
I love how you spelled all of this out! Yes yes thank you! it’s all about clarity and intentionality for me. And not necessarily getting to an arbitrary number to be considered a minimalist. Anyways I love everything you wrote. I’m looking forward to using up these products. I too will probably need more Micellar water (and SPF) because I do use a lot of it. As far as beauty products go I think I can make it a very low buy year. That’s the goal!!❤️❤️❤️

I haven’t used sunscreen since we’ve moved and I’m mostly indoors but I know I need to use some haha. I do have a handful of hair products because I have curly hair so I do try and use different ones for a softer curl or a firmer hold. Keep these great videos coming

Recently had a huge bathroom purge. Our lavatory broke and knowing a plumber was urgent and needed space to work forced Me to declutter
That’s a great idea I need to hit pan and use a product before I’m allowed to go onto another one I own even!! I keep getting down to like 20% left and then switching around and around!

I try really hard to only have exactly what I’m using. One lotion, one face wash, moisturizer, toner etc. It helps a lot to keep organized. I also have a really minimal makeup collection to save money.

Great video, I feel inspired! And uplifted, as you're probably the only YTer that was honest about such down-to-earth things as bottles of products getting filthy out of nowhere :D Personally I would recommend getting rectangular storage boxes, recently I moved my sewing kit from a round tin to a rectangular and was amazed at how much easier it is to compartmentalise it. Round boxes are good for decor and hats, and pretty much nothing else :) All the best!
this is so true! i switched my round clothes hamper for a rectangle one and it fits so much better in my closet. same goes for tupperware in the fridge!

Me again 😅 just thought I'd add that I worked in a Pharmacy for 3 years (3 years ago!) and I'm only now coming to the end of all the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel hoard that I built up while I was there 🥴. At least I haven't had to purchase any though.

I had a few things myself. I decluttered because I’m relocating and only wanted those items I use and those that gives me the best results. It’s taking years to figure out what those products are. Now I know, I keep back ups. 1-3 of everything so to never run out.
My beauty/bathroom items are my weakness. Not makeup but everything else. I have done so many purges but I still have too many items. Now I am going to purge my items again! :) I love how you changed your bathroom.
Same!! You know what i thought of after doing this...i could set up a box or shelf and have my own mini sephora to shop from 😂 and just keep one product out to finish at a time. Not sure if that helps you but I have lots of products I switch between and never finish. Would make things super minimal in my bathroom too!!

As long as you use those things on a regular base, it is not too much. I don't use any skincare products exept for sunlotion that I do need and that I use all year round. It's from Japan and doesn't even smell like typical sunlotion and also helps when my lips get very dry in winter. I do have a bit of makeup (lipsticks and mascara). But with the exeption of my hair (3 products, shampoo, tonic and mask) I try to limit myself to one or two products to shower, brush my teeth or freshen up. Thing is, even when I have more products on display, I tend to stop to use them after a while. So I stopped buying body lotions, face masks and what not. I admit, sometimes it is nice to have a face mask, but I never saw any difference before and after. I don't even buy lip balms anymore since I discovered that I can use my sunlotion even for that.
That sun lotion sounds lovely. Agreed I never need to buy another face mask again! I just don’t use them!!

I’m late to the bathroom declutter video (story of my life), but thought I’d comment anyhow. How are you doing, ProAir buddy!? I recognized those red inhalers a mile away. lol I was going to suggest a tubular, cute storage container for the cotton rounds. If you’re sticking them in the hat box and having to open that, and then fiddle with the seal on the plastic bag…it’s just annoying. I know…I used to do it. We currently have ours in a teal colored glass jar that sits right inside the cabinet. But, if your container is nice enough, it could sit on out the shelf. Also, I’m guilty of keeping samples and trying to use them in the rotation, and also have multiple moisturizers (i mean, sometimes things are not as dry or weather changes) and conditioners and such. I decluttered bathroom pretty hard a couple years ago, but I am probably due to go through mine and get rid of anything that’s sat and did not get used though (end up with something else you prefer or didn’t care for it much, but didn’t want to waste it…but it obviously gets wasted anyhow? 😆)

I understand having tons of sunscreens hahah. I have a nice body sunscreen, a body sunscreen for when I’m at a pool or something, an everyday face sunscreen, two tinted face sunscreens for when I want to look a bit more put together, lip SPF, etc. 😅

Pro Tip: those micro needle rollers are bacteria hubs. The rolling surface creates tears in your skin rather than going straight in and out like they would in an aesthetics salon. Aestheticians recommend never using the micro needle rollers.
Alice Shklanka, not if you sterilise after you use them. They're fine. But if you don't use sterilising solution every time, then you would run into problems

Over the last year I purchased hundreds of dollars in skin care. I was trying to find what worked best for me especially because I was bi-coastal. What worked for me in Atlanta, didn’t fair too week for me in the high desert in SoCal. Then I started using Tretinoin which required more soothing skincare.
I have finally found what works best for me. I have away a few things and other things I didn’t like for my face, I just used on my body instead.
How’s the tretinoin? I tried retinol but never stick to it sigh…I switch it up too. Dr. zo stuff is pretty good.
If you have moisture where you store stuff it will create stuff on bottles
I have that Witch Hazel. I got it at Woodmans grocery store and I really like it! I think it's nicer than just regular Witch Hazel.

You have so many things😂 for my skincare I only use almond oil or coconut or jojoba oil. Once you try them you Will get rid of 50% of your stuff. However you are doing a great job. Love your true accent 🥰 Italy

I noticed you use the DHC Oil Facial Cleanser. Fyi, Bert's Bees has a similar product that i like just as much at half the cost.
It will take me few years to get to were you are, as I have I guess appr.200, maybe more, cosmetics of all kind. Gift and purchased. Going thru then since 2 yrs already, and still there are everywhere XD But at least I am not buying anything, so one good thing about it:):) Btw-I really like, how you display the things on the shelves, that look nice and you use often-both in the kitchen and in the bathroom. Same with the "shop looking" clothes stand in your bedroom:)
Hey, one step at a time!😊I'm still using up shower gel and body lotion I was gifted years ago. Apparently that's the preferred gift for teenagers / young women... (also perfume. So much perfume😭). But I'm not buying anything anymore, like you. That was honestly the hardest part bc I'm kind of an impulsive buyer :D

I'm using Curology for almost a year now and only have 3 other skincare products including sunscreen. Less is more with that retinol stuff man it is potent😂It is honestly the best thing. My skin is way less irritated bc I'm not constantly switching and mixing products, I spend less money bc I'm not hunting for "that special lotion that will make all the difference " anymore. Is this an ad? Feels like it doesn't it🤣Anyway... your cute little bathroom turned our great!! You rock Carla😘
I’ve been wondering about curology!! OK the retinol owwww I can never keep it up😂. I have some now that I need to finish. It really makes my skin peel which I know is part of the process. The dr zo products are awesome and once I use all of what I have up I’ll maybe just stick with one brand …maybe😅

You have more than me but you certainly don't have an excess. I should be using more than I do skin care wise. I think I probably have around 6-8 lipstick colors, a few for each season. Some I won't get again. I had a lot of nail polishes but a lot are getting dried out now. Sometimes I find myself keeping the empties so I don't forget the color because I want to look for them again. But I only use one eyeliner, one mascara, one toothpaste, one shampoo, conditioner, face wash but I did get several to have on hand.. I buy them when they go on a sale that doesn't come around very often and they often go out of stock so I like to have a lot and then back stock them. It's easier to get away with shopping like that when you have more space but it definitely saves me a lot of money and also I never run out when sometimes the products aren't available a month or more at a time. I should look into getting some stackable clear drawers for under the sink. I did get it so it's almost 50% empty.. The linen closet is where I keep most of my over runs and that is quite full.
totally i buy my supergoop in multiples when sephora has their twice a year sale. i would love to get down to one shampoo and conditioner...maybe by end of this year! xo

It looks good I have a clarifying shampoo, reg shampoo, conditoner, 1 face wash, 1 body wash, 2 different lotions (face and body), 1 sunscreen, hair oil, hair cream, hair gel, and a body hair remover that's all I would count in like my bathroom things (leaving out nail polish stuff, deodorant, etc.)

Mine is very minimal. I use a natural soap made with oatmeal and honey for face and body due to my dry skin. I use honey as a face mask. My skin loves it!! I have a heavy moisturizer I use for face and body. A oil for face in evening and spf for day. Other than that, 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner. 1 leave in conditioner and a couple other curly hair products. It's what works for me.
And I live in the south, your natural accent is much nicer😊.

@The Carla Project never heard of using it for a pre cleanser. Mine has vitamin c and retinol in it, so I use it after cleaning.

Personally I think the bamboo shelf tower takes up more space then it’s worth, you aren’t storing that many things on it, mainly decor. I think you could easily get rid of it and open up your bathroom more.
I have to 1,000,000% disagree. It’s the corner where my trashcan goes. So I still have the trashcan there but now I also have six extra shelves rising above to store my cotton rounds my jewelry I take on and off toilet paper lotions and the giant hat box with all of the stuff I sort of threw . That and adding the double shelf under the sink made the biggest difference in keeping my bathroom organized and clean. Sorely lacking shelves and storage and this fully solves that problem 💯

17:05 I have an bio almond oil, an bio aloe Vera gel and an bio aloe Vera spray, a pure bio deo and a bio shampoo - that’s it. My skin is so much better since I don‘t use any other stuff anymore. The skin-care industry is like the pharma-industry. They want to sell sell sell. Try it. You don’t need anything more.
Yea I have all kinds of skin issues and needs. I take excellent care of my skin tho it works for me and it shows but I think simple is good and gradually as I go through these products I’ll have far less for sure!
Honestly I think that is the average amount of product most women own and use. I have been using what I have the last few years and I have reduced everything down to one I am using one back up (toothbrushes and loo roll not included) make up I’ve marked items to concentrate on and finish then only buying good quality items and enjoying them going forward. I hope to get to the point of only having a medium make up bags worth. Not quite there yet. Perfume is my weakness - I will get there though Rome was not built in a day :]
That inspires me. It is going to feel so good to go through these and then greatly simplify. Especially my skin care routine moving forward!!
With skincare I have managed to find a routine that work and 95% is from the same brand which has helped. Caudalie is the brand that works on my 40 yr old skin and here in the uk it is middle of the road price point. Currently have one moisturizer from a different brand and a serum from another I want to use up.

I have 1 shampoo, 1 moistrizer, 1 face wash, 1 micellar water, 1 tooth paste, 1 curling iron and 1 straightner. And thats all 🌼 but you say you need all of them, its so personal 🤍

i'm not ashamed of having a few dupes of stuff i use on a daily basis however, i have some products which needs to be used and won't be repurchased. that's why i made a table to 'force' myself to use them on a specific day of the week- so far i'm 1/2 done ;)

Your meds will keep better away from the moisture in the bathroom. A space in a kitchen cabinet or a closet would be better.
Im that way "out of sight out of mind" i forget i have something and buy extras when i already have three or more. I need to write an inventory list.

Inventory stash? lol! I'm a minimalist! I use the same natural soap for shampoo (body & hair in one!) I do have conditioner and 'hair custard' (this mixed girl needs some deep conditioning for the hair!). If I want to wear nail polish (rarely), I borrow my daughter's. I don't wear make-up (I'm allergic to nearly every brand). I do have lotion, deodorant, one comb and one brush and my toothbrush lol! I have maybe 5 colognes? All of my beauty products would fit in one of those travel make-up bags lol!
I have zero colognes but I use my lotions as a fragrance. And only one nail polish that I use for emergencies. Definitely looking forward to getting my skin care products down to the size of a travel make up bag. I think by end of year☺️

I know I get it it’s a combination of always looking for the best product trying so many different ones and then needing different regime depending on the hairstyle. My Afro texture hair has many needs 😄
