  • Come join us in New Bern, NC and experience its 300+ years of rich history! Founded in 1710 at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse rivers, New Bern was settled by Swiss and German adventurers led by Baron Christopher de Graffenried from Bern, Switzerland. New Bern is the second oldest town in the state. New Bern was the first capitol of North Carolina.
In this video, we visit the beautiful harbor glistening with boats of all shapes and sizes, stroll down the historic district, visit Christ Church dating back to 1750, and tour the original pharmacy where Pepsi Cola was first invented back in 1893.
We also have our share of dining and shopping.. so come along for the fun!
We camped at the nearby New Bern KOA Holiday.

New Bern came across my radar for a place to possibly have a vacation/retirement home. It looks like the kind of town I’m looking for. Hopefully we will have a chance to visit soon. I’m wondering about grocery shopping and things of that sort. Thank you for sharing your adventure. 💫

I love New Bern as my parents live there! It is nice that so many people love to visit. For those that move here don't change it!

I lived in the Laughinghouse Trailer park in the 70's and 80's .. Come to find out old man Laughinghouse named a street over there after his granddaughter who was my childhood crush Allison.... LOL She lived on Howell though... Those were the days... We played at the airfield and rode the train across the river to the Palace and swam all day at Green Springs... Mr. George would give us poor kids orange Crush out of the old bottle machine that would shock you if you were wet. The Pepsi building was still standing over by Union Point... All of us kids were under 10.. There was a convient store where SDA is now and across the street was an old 1800's saw mill steel "teepee" we loved playing in... It was full of sawdust..

Beautiful city! Do you have a video sharing about your rig? Even if you don't have it anymore! LOL I'd just love to see about the RV, too. Thanks for the adventure and safe travels!

We love New Bern, visited many times, and have always dreamed of retiring there. As much as we'd love to be there and as much as we feel we could contribute to the overall warm, welcoming culture in a very positive way, I wonder how we would be received and welcomed as a gay married couple. Would love to envision retiring in New Bern, just not sure, unfortunately, if it's the community we would thrive. I would like to think so and would appreciate any feedback anyone would be willing to offer.
