New Bern: A Weekend Getaway
Come join us for our anniversary celebration weekend in New Bern, NC. New Bern is one of the oldest cities in North Carolina, and at one time was the State Capitol. In this video, we stroll down the streets of this quaint and historic town, shopping at the local shops, and visiting a local Farmer's Market.
We also visit the original pharmacy which was the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola where we enjoy the refreshing taste of Pepsi in a glass bottle along with some popcorn, while checking out the Pepsi memorabilia.
We then venture to Union Point Park and stroll along the waterfront, taking in the beauty of the water, blue sky, and remainder of the prior week's Mum Festival.
Capping off a wonderful day, we take a side trip to Atlantic beach for a sunset beach stroll before dining at the Crab's Claw Oceanfront Restaurant.
Let us know if you have ever visited New Bern. I hope our short (but sweet) weekend has inspired you to visit!

    I wonder if the steering lock on your Countryman was defeated by whoever set it up for towing. Seems like all Countrymans have keyless entry and steering lock. There is a way to bypass it electrically but complicated. Guess you're lucky.

      @vgrzesiak ours is a 2011... so no keyless entry and no wheel lock. The key is one of those round mini keys that go into a special slot (not the steering wheel). I don't think anyone bypassed a steering lock but I could be wrong 😉

    The town of Beech Mountain is a hell hole. The corrupt town council refuses to look out for the interests of the property owners. They allowed one BULLY to put a rock quarry at the top of Beech Mountain. A rock quarry! Can you imagine! The town promises visitors & potential new property owners peace, quiet and safety. And then they betray them. The bully also has a rock crusher - so that constant pounding, all day long, is another of Beech Mountain's horrible sounds. Toxic, noisy trucks go back & forth, all day long. Spewing pollution & dirt. The noise is unbearable. You would think the town would protect their property owners, but they don't. It's only about greed for them. Don't buy property on Beech Mountain. You will regret it.

    The question is, can you use that setup for any car? Or is it specific for certain cars and the year of the car?

    • @YoungatHeartAdventures
      @YoungatHeartAdventures 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SuperRedman76 there are only certain cars and years that can be flat towed. Typically it has to be a standard transmission or automatic that has a setting to allow flat towing. Check your owners manual to see if your car is eligible, or if you plan to buy one as a tow vehicle. Then the car must be set up for towing by installing the base plate (the base plate is specific for your year and model).

    I have just scheduled a 2 week camping trip for May to the Outer Banks, staying at 3 NPS campgrounds in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore going from north to south - Oregon Inlet, Frisco and Ocracoke Island. There is a free ferry to get from the southern end of Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. I've been to the OBX a couple of times previously, but this will be my first visit to Ocracoke Island. I was surprised I was able to reserve campsites for the dates I wanted only 3 to 5 weeks ahead of time. I'm sure that would not be the case for the heavy tourist season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The weather in May is usually perfect with average high temperatures around 75 and lows near 60. For those who like camping at the beach without big crowds, May and September-October at the Outer Banks is spectacular. You're not stuck in one place looking at the same beach every day. There are plenty of things to see and do all along the Outer Banks and small villages with groceries and restaurants. I can't think of another place that compares to the Outer Banks in the offseason in terms of scenery, weather (assuming you avoid hurricanes in the fall) and the lack of crowds. There is loads of great birding at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and many other locations. I will be tent camping with my dog and almost everywhere in the Outer Banks is pet friendly. The NPS campgrounds are ridiculous bargains if you don't require all the amenities - $14 a night (50% discount) with a senior National Parks Lifetime Passport. They have flush toilets, running water and outdoor showers, which is all I need. If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you can drive on many of the beaches with an OBX permit. I believe a 10 day permit is $50 and a 12 month permit is $100.

    • @YoungatHeartAdventures
      @YoungatHeartAdventures 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for all the detail! We love the OBX as well. I'm sure your comment will help many who are planning to travel there this year..

    I highly recommend the Price Lake Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is a NPS campground that just added showers a few years ago. It is along my favorite stretch of the Parkway, close to Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and the Linville Gorge, Price Lake, Moses Cone and the town of Blowing Rock. It's also convenient to the High Country - Banner Elk, Valle Crucis (with the original Mast General Store) and Roan Mountain.
